  1. has anyone does this and if so,

do you have to rent online or can you walk up?

how are the bikes? beat up or well maintained?

how much is it and do you have to put deposit on credit card

I'm wondering the same thing. Does anyone happen to know that above questions?

  2. LOL - I agree - we will be there about 3 days precruise - and trying to fit in all the yummy meals/drinks might be challenging but I am up for it :D:D

I have lists upon lists and have already signed up for the flavors of san juan walking tour - can't wait - I am salivating already!;)

Let us know how you make out!

What is 'the flavors of san juan'?

  3. We did the segway tours on San Juan. It was awesome. Having a tour guide tell you all the cool things about the city was the best part. Not to mention being able to see more because the segways go pretty fast. Highly recommend. And we felt very safe, she told us the areas not to go to when the tour was done.

I did the segway tour a couple years back. I liked it as well and is something I would recommend especially if you don't like to walk a lot.

  4. Going to St Maarten on a Disney cruise for the first time. It's going to be myself, my wife and 2 kids(3 and 5y/O). I was thinking of renting a car in order to explore the island at our own pace. question/suggestions:

    1. how big is the island from one end to the other?

    2. where on St. Maarten does the cruise ship dock?

    3. is there a car rental place near the cruise port?

    4. if not, how far is the nearest car rental company?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions or/and advice

Can anyone confirm a website they used to reserve a rental car at the pier. I did an online chat with an Avis rep and she was only able to locate an avis location at the airport.

  5. Try to go on Trip Advisor and find Loterie (sp?) Farm and see if you can find a website.

Not sure if you can do it on your own but worth checking! i know you can hike up the mountain on your own if you want but last year they were closed on Mondays

Just in case anyone else is interested, I went ahead and contacted them and this was Pierre's response:

The best way to get here is to take a taxi and it usually takes about 30 minutes from the pier to get here. We can call you a taxi when you are ready to leave and it usually takes about 15 minutes for the taxi to arrive here after we call.

We have regular departure times for the Fly Zone Extreme at 10am, 12pm and 2pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) and as long as you sign up here at least 15 minutes before the departure times and have no mobility issues, are old enough (18 at least) and wear appropriate apparel, you should have no difficulties signing up. The course is offered first come, first serve so no reservation is possible.

Let me know if you need any further information.

    All the best,

    Pierre

  6. There are a couple of threads about Mr. Grey's tours on the board. Have you read those?

There's a snack bar at the fort that has snacks, hot dogs, drinks, beer (that I know about; that's all I've had on my two visits).

It partly depends on which beach he takes you to. The first time I did the tour, we went to one of the beaches at the south tip. There was a bar there that served food.

Last time (November 2013), we had a late port visit so no need for lunch. That time, we went to Carambola Beach club, which also has a bar and probably serves food. There are also threads here about Carambola.

He does not provide snacks. Don't think he provides any drinks, either.

You can always email him and ask. Pretty sure his address is on his website.

I've enjoyed the tour both times I went. Both the fort and the batik factory and grounds are interesting.

I'll be back in St Kitts on 6/4 and am trying to get some roll call people to sign up for his tour over to Nevis. Only need four people and I can't get a single person interested. Sigh.

I may actually end up doing the grand tour yet again. As much as I'd like to see Nevis, I do not want to spend $129 to take the ship's tour!

Hey, if you are still interested in Nevis, I have a party of 3 and we too thought about the Nevis tour --- I assume it's too late now :(

  7. An inexpensive family thing to do in San Juan is flying kites on hill area that faces El Morro fort. Popular with locals. No problem getting kites up in air with ocean breeze. We brought our own inexpensive Walmart kites, but heard can be purchased there. Next trip bringing one with stronger string and a a better way to wind it in.

Also if I to photography - some really great shots of ocean and if not creeped out, the cemetery by fort has amazing carvings. Breath taking.

Great suggestion about the kites. I had totally forgot about that until you mentioned it. Fun pictures too!

  8. I have a reservation at Hyatt Place post cruise. I have a couple of questions and I was hoping that someone could help me.

What's the best way to get from cruise port to hotel? There are three of us.

Also, we want to go to the beach during the day and then shopping/dinner in the evening. Is the water taxi close, within walking distance? I've heard that Las Olas is nice spot to check out.

Any other tips or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

  10. Okay so I have been planning on renting a couple of golf carts from Nathan's. I'm starting to question whether this is a good choice, because on another thread the last few reviews have been negative. A couple of different people posted that their carts were in terrible condition and broke down, ect. Does anyone have any recent reviews of the golf carts.
