  1. This thread is so CC, don't you think? OP asks for ideas on how to pull off a surprise event and 1/2 or more of the posts are strangers' opinions about why they themselves would hate to be surprised and why the OP shouldn't do it at all, or simply that it won't work!

    Sigh...

    Yep

  2. I did. For my wife. Told her we were going to cocoa beach for her bday. When we were passing the port I said lets get a closer look. Once in the port I acted like I was trying to get out but pulled right up to the porters. She was shocked when I said get out we are going aboard.

  3. Thanks so much for your reply!

Hurricane season :eek: should I be worried about this?

What will the weather be like around this area at the end of September?

Where is the best place to find these deals that you are talking about?

No the captain's will switch coarse to avoid major problems. Cruise critic search function is best way or directly through each lines web site.

  4. It took me less than 15 minutes to walk. No stores on the way. You can walk on the beach to Jack's Shack, then take the road the rest of the way.

This is correct. When you come into the port look to the left. You will see a big boat stuck up on the beach. Just to the left is governors beach. Short walk, no stores, they did have bathrooms.

  5. A short docking time in Grand Turk called for an early morning. This is a small island. 7 miles by 1 1/2 miles. More people came in on the two ships here today than the number of people living on the island!

You can swim and sun here right next to the ship. Margaritaville is here also. We are not interested in huge crowds, so we knew this wasn't for us.

We rented bicycles and went geocaching for the short time we were here. We rode to the "town" where the museum is, then headed north toward the lighthouse. We realized we were not on the correct road to get clear to the lighthouse and because of the timing, we didn't want to ride back to town to get on the correct road, so we just road to the west side to get to the water. I believe this island had the most beautiful and brilliant blues in the water that we saw the entire trip. We got our feet wet (and sandy) before heading back south toward the ship. Saw salt flats, cactus, and horses roaming on this island. We had a hard wind heading back, so we were glad we didn't make the complete trip to the lighthouse. We were successful in our geocaching also!

We had a late lunch at Guys. WOW! I think I could eat these everyday! The party for past guests was tonight before dinner. This was a bit different than in the past. Only a couple of choices for drinks, and they weren't as plentiful, but the glasses were larger. I don't know if this is fleet wide or just this ship. There were also people getting drinks of their choice, but we just went with what was offered. Don't really care what it is if it's free. I know some people think it's lame, but I enjoy the short video where we get to applaud the ships we have sailed.

Had a great dinner, then spent time in the piano bar afterwards. One person in our party didn't like being "called out" by the piano guy. The rest of us thought it was funny. We spent a bit of time in the casino, walked on deck 5, then caught comedian in the comedy club. Spent some time on the balcony before turning in for the evening. Our room stewards, Su and Vicktoria are great!

How much did bikes cost? I love guys burgers too. And I also love the video of past cruises. So VIFP party is on the night you were at Turks? Loving the review.

  6. Knew DH didn't eat Mexican food or pizza when I married him, fact that he likes to travel trumped that lol. Know he's looking forward to the burger bar.

He does like spicy, especially Chinese food. Since it's free:D he said he'd 'try' whatever protein they have...maybe he'll convert;)

He's picky, won't eat eggs, pork, fish, do they have shrimp, chicken or beef available?

Yes they do have shrimp chicken and Beef for lunch though.

  7. The breakfast burritos are outstanding! I ate one almost every morning last week, I am embarrased to report! My favorite was the jalapeno wrap with mexican eggs, sausage, crispy potatoes, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. (It sounds spicier than it really is!)

Easiest way to order it is jalapeno wrap everything on it. Light on the brown sauce (its spicy) best damn breakfast burritos ever. Then I go back for the fish tacos at lunch. Mmmm mmmm good

  8. You are WAAAY overthinking this! You're going on a vacation...that's all! At a resort, you would tip every time you get served....on a ship, that's all taken care of for you, with the gratuities that they extract from you. You're done....no additional tips are needed, except, perhaps, for room service...those folks are not included in the tips you pay.

Alcohol and soda are extra...so are gambling expenses, and spa treatments.....just like anywhere, you'll pay for "hands on" things!!!

You're paying for room and board, and different locations daily! Go! Enjoy!..Stop overthinking this!

Exactly. ... its an adventure. Your still in work mode with all this planning this researching that. Put on a t-shirt and shorts. Put your phone on airplane mode and chill out. Trust me it took me a few days to realize it's all good no matter what happens while your at sea. Get your butt online or to an agent and book the cheapest indoor stateroom because you won't be in it anyway so do it. What you need me to say it again GOOOO! !!!!!!! :D

  9. Darling, Dear, Dumb, Damn, Dreaded, Deplorable, Desperate, Daft, Dreary, Delightful, Domineering, Despicable, Doting, Dopey, Drunk, Dastardly, Dangerous, Delirious....you name it, I guess they can all apply depending on who is doing the posting.

For that reason I choose not to use any of them.....:D

Did we say "deranged, dauntless, dimwitted yet. Sorry I have a sophomore in high school. Lol :p
