  1. In general, O Life is a good value and we always take it (without the air).

Especially now as from reading here it seems that the cruise only fares have gone up since 7/1 while the O life fares stayed the same (for most part).

You can do a search on "O Life" and will get lots of info as it has been discussed extensively here.

I was going to post a question about the OLife v. Cruise Only Fares also. I thought that if you don't take O's air that you don't get the OLife choices of unlimited internet, excursions or drinks package, or OBC.

Our first & only cruise with Oceania, we did take their air but it was economy and we want to go business for long distances like to Europe.

We want the OLife value but want to do our own airfare as we usually have miles or points to use from our credit cards.

    Thank you for any info.

  2. We just (today!) made a 55 minute connection (United to United), and there was a lot of extra time waiting for the extra flight, which left on time even though they were requesting volunteers to give up seats on the oversold flight.

Although our gate numbers sounded "close to each other", once we were on the ground at IAH, we realized that the gates were on two different corridors, and not near the place where the two corridors connected (hope that makes sense). But we still had plenty of time.

We had been a bit worried about the timing, but because this was on our way "home", and there were several more flights later in the day, we were prepared to wait.

Otherwise, we'd have guaranteed ourselves a long wait.

But IF our first flight had been delayed by more than half an hour, we probably would have missed it (and they wouldn't need two of those nice volunteers to take a later flight - that would have been *us* instead on that later flight :( ).

Hey, glad to hear it was doable, and our's is United/United also but we went w/the longer layover in LAX.

We will keep this in mind next time UA wants to change us again through IAH.

I'm wondering if you got your connection times mixed up - this one has the long connection at IAD and the short one at SFO (and that shows 55min, not 45). I just checked United's site and see the same. This is the only routing that leaves at that 11:50am with IAD/SFO, so I'm assuming this is the one you currently have.

As FTer has said, there are several other options listed on the United website of you to try to change to: via IAH/LAX or ORD/LAX.

Thanks, slidergirl, for checking for me.

I just checked Matrix also and I saw the one you're referring to, but mine is listed there too on the Matrix, that United gave us, but it is UA 1973 leaving IAH at 2:30pm, arriving SFO 4:55pm (everything else the same).

I think we're going to ask to change to the LAX connection from IAH (UA1121) which gives us 1h 50m at IAH & 1h 40m at LAX, arriving SBP at 7:55pm. There are seats available, too, on the changed flights.

I thought the 45 minutes was too short -- I would be a nervous wreck wondering if we were going to make it.

    Thanks, everyone, for your input.

  4. I have just filled out a GOES application and nowhere do I see any info about how far out they are scheduling interviews for the airports. We are looking at Phoenix Sky Harbor. We have not been approved yet, but would like to know how far out they are scheduling their interviews.

Can someone point me to the correct area on their website to check this out?

    Thank you for any help.

  5. Hi, everyone,

We were scheduled to fly from FLL (1:55pm) on 12/20/16 on UA to SBP (San Luis Obispo) with a layover in SFO (2hrs 10min.) after our Lisbon/FLL TA cruise.

Just received this change from United:

Now we leave FLL (11:50am) & have a layover of 45 minutes in IAH; then on to SFO arriving 4:55pm w/a layover of 2 hrs/5 min.

I am not comfortable with the 45 min. layover at IAH even with the possibility of the gates of United being fairly close together.

These 2 tickets for my husband & I were award seats that we got with our miles.

Can I call United & ask to change this? Even thought it was paid for with award miles?

I found another flight from IAH on United that gives us a 1 hr. 50 min layover at IAH; and 1hr. 40min. layover at LAX (instead of SFO); and then on to SBP on Canadair operated by SkyWest dba United Express. Get in to SBP about the same time as the SFO flight, too.

45 minutes just seems too short.

  6. You should actually have a choice of business class lounges to use.

The AA lounge is the least good of the options - avoid it. BA's lounge is pretty good, and has showers.

But your better bet will probably be to use the Cathay Pacific lounge, as CX generally allows any oneworld business class passenger to use its lounges even if not flying CX. I think the CX lounge is being refurbished at present, but it should be open again long before December. It always had nice showers, but they should be even better by then.

    Globaliser,

Thanks for the info on Cathay Pacific lounge, as I didn't know we might have access to it, just thought we would just have the AA lounge.

After 10 1/2 hours flight, even in BC, it will be nice to have that lounge access.

    Thanks, again, everyone.

    Kathy

  7. In the end it will come down to your stress level.

For me I would choose the longer layover just in case there are delays with my first flight. For others they would op to go with the shorter layover.

AA also has a reputation for changing flight time so you never know if there will be a schedule change that has the first flight leaving later.

On anther note since you haven't booked yet I hope you are planning to arrive to Lisbon one or more days prior to your cruise so that a flight delay or cancellation does not cause you to miss the ship. Lisbon is a terrific city so it's fun to spend a couple of days there touring.

    Keith

Yes, we are flying in a few days before the cruise with Seabourn on Dec. 7th! We want to take our time enjoying Lisbon.

Thank you for the heads-up about AA possibly changing flight times. As soon as I mentioned this to my DH, he replied, "OK, we'll take the 4 hour layover."

  8. Hi, Everyone:

We are flying out LAX (AA metal) to Lisbon (7:00pm or a 5:00pm on Dec. 2nd) with a layover in LHR, arriving Lisbon on Dec. 3rd (Saturday/BA metal). We will be doing a TA from Lisbon to FLL.

AA has 2 flights out of LAX, one with a 2 hour/5 min. layover & one with a 4 hr/5 min layover, both in LHR.

Not sure of the Terminals, either. We fly out of LHR on BA on either flight to LIS.

Is the 2hr/5min. layover doable without too much hassle? Hubby likes the 2 hours & I like the 4 hour layover.

Thank you for any and all suggestions/advice.

  9. Did you recently book the cruise??

I usually book the devaition flights about 8-9mths out then I know what I am getting

I am sure it will not be too bad once you get over the early morning wake up call

    I hate early flights also

    Have a great cruise

    lyn

Yes, we transferred from the Oct. 4 Rome to Barcelona cruise, had our flights already done then, too. Had some unexpected surgery & needed the extra 4 weeks for recovery, so we just got them for this cruise about 10 to 14 days ago.

I guess I'm sleeping half-dressed and will miss the hotel breakfast -- hubby's upset about that!

    Thanks, again.

  10. And many more if you want to double connect (Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, ...). But with cruise arranged air, it doesn't generally matter what you want...it matters what they want to give you.

We found that out. We're flying to Rome on United out of PHX, through IAD. So I found and gave Oceania a couple United flights back from LIS (around 10:15am) to EWR to PHX and I guess it didn't work for them.

So we're stuck with a 7:20am (what, we have to be at the airport by 5:20am at least!?) flight out of Lisbon. Oh well, at least we get home to PHX on the same day after a 2 hour drive to Prescott area.

Thank you all for your suggestions and help about the customs/immigration aspect.

  11. First time flying to Europe. We end our cruise in Lisbon, staying for 2 nites, fly out at 7:20am (yuck!)on BA to LHR with a 4 hr. layover (come in at Term. 3 and out at Term. 5 at LHR).

Where do we go thru Customs/Immig. and do we pick up baggage or what?

This is Oceania's included air on British Airlines.

Thank you for any info from a new flyer.

P.S.: I accidentally posted this under another thread, sorry.
