  1. So as the time approaches we sadly are leaving as a family of 4 not 5 as Skippy died about 6 weeks ago.

     

    Always planned for him to be with us but cancer said otherwise.

     

    Rusty has grown into a larger dog than anticipated at the time of booking so it was suggested we keep both kennels as he will no longer fit comfortably into one. So Rusty comes out okay!

     

    We'll miss Skippy especially when we go to board.

  4. That's not nice, and I am rather taken aback by your response: Do you mean that you don't agree with my statement that you wouldn't want to leave your child alone in a cabin late at night? That would be your choice, except that the Passage Contract states:

     

     

    "Guests under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a Guest 18 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the Voyage. For family groups booking multiple staterooms, the minimum age for at least one person in each stateroom is 16 years of age, provided they are traveling with a parent or legal guardian. Carrier will not accept group reservations for student or youth groups that do not conform to our minimum age requirements. Each Guest agrees and warrants that he/she will supervise any Guest in his/her care at all times to ensure all policies, along with all other rules of the Carrier and ship, are strictly adhered to by all Guests under their supervision."

    I wasn't offering you parental advice, I was trying to find a delicate way to remind you of your contractual obligations in accordance with the Passage Contract. But, by all means, ignore and disregard advice as well as news reports regarding assaults upon minors on cruise ships. If you are unfamiliar with such reports, I will cite reputable sources.

     

    I didn't realise you were from the Passage Contract Enforcement Unit, I thought you were telling me what I should or shouldn't do as far as my son is concerned. I apologize if my misreading of "....you wouldn't want to leave your child alone in the cabin at night.." made me think think that way and as a result I hurt your feelings.

     

    Now, I think I have a good feel for peoples' opinions on an inside cabin so there probably isn't much more to add here, folks.

  5. Because I always wanted to sail on Cunard!

     

    Having sailed alongside the Cunard Princess and Countess back in the 80's and knowing my brother came home form the Falklands on the QE2 I just had to sail on them.

     

    I don't pay any attention to the chatter about the 'class levels'; I'm first class in how I live and approach life. Always have been, always will be!

  6. Having spent two years in a tween deck cabin with no porthole I understand the concerns of claustrophobia but like many have said, sleep in the cabin and get out for the rest of the time is a good plan.

     

    I also figured I might bring a couple of those 'daylight' lightbulbs so as to at least have a more natural light in the cabin. Do they use screw in or bayonet style connectors?

  7. Yes, congratulations on your and your dog's bookings!

     

    Our inside cabin sleeping experiences could not have been better - very cool, dark and quiet. My friends and I all likened it to sleeping in a tomb, though, thank goodness, we have no real personal experience to speak of! :eek:

    That's good because I think we are going to be having quite a few late nights in celebration of your return home.

  8. Thanks everyone! I had typed a much longer reply but my IE locked up and I lost it but the general crux of it was THANK YOU :)

     

    I feel that we will be just fine in an inside cabin, given the responses you have provided. What with the excitement of a TA plus the excitement of returning home plus the chance to finally sail on a Cunard vessel (I worked on P&O for three years) I think we'll just be happy to be on board :cool:

  9. So we are returning home to the UK in July 2015 and want to save as much as possible on travel costs.

     

    We are 'booked' on QM2 on July 14 2015 and have 'pre-registered' for an inside cabin to save money.

     

    We haven't been on the QM2 before and wanted your thoughts on whether 3 in an inside is going to be too tight especially given we will have a decent amount of luggage (most of our stuff will be on a container ship of course).

     

    We don't plan on spending much time in the cabin as, if our previous experience on Holland america was anything to go by, there is always something to do above decks.

     

    The inside cabins all look the same size as far as I can tell but if you know if any that offer a little extra useable space I would be pleased to hear about them.

     

    Given that we are heading home to stay I think you could house us in the Brig and we wouldn't actually care :)

  10. I think Moggi means that to lose your life in that situation, rather than in your bed at a great age, was pointless.

     

    Pointless from the perspective that the these types of disagreement should be sorted out without sending men and women to thier deaths.

     

    I blame Galtieri, of course because, he initiated it, Maggie (love her or hate her) did what she should have done.

     

    My brother spoke of the terrible condition in which he found the majority of the Argentinian conscripts. He gave his old boots to one guy whose shoes were waterlogged and falling apart. Most were happy to get the chance of warmth and hot food.

     

    I walked on the decks of one of our ships that were hit, saw the disfigured metal and the impact the intense heat had had. I saw that and knew that young me (and women?) had died on that vessel. Terribly sad. It puts this petty 'lower your flag' stuff into perspective IMHO.

  11. I was on baord the Sun Princess whilst the Falklands Conflict was taking place (my brother was there with the Army).

     

    We docked in Caracas (La Guaira) and were advised not to go ashore. The Pax were shuttled out of there on buses as usual.

     

    We had people throwing stones at the ship but they weren't close enough to hit us.

     

    When we left the Captain played "Don't cry for me argentina" over the ships speaker system which gave us all a laugh. The following morning I delivered a telegram to the Captain from P&O head office which indicated that his choice of departure music was inappropriate. he said to me "have you read this?" I said "No sir!" and he read it out word for word on the bridge and said it likely wouldn't be the last time he got in trouble. He asked me to take it to the printer on board (a guy we called Caveman as he was tucked away in a small room below decks) and have him frame it.

     

    We did not return to LG whilst I remained on board though I left soon after and joined the SS Uganda when she refitted as a troop carrier and returned to the bleak place the people from both sides fought and died over!

     

    Pointless waste of life.

    I was asked for a similar a letter when I took my son and Mum by car from the USA to Canadian Niagra Falls. Even though I am the father the US border police wanted proof that I had my wife's permission to take him out of the country.

     

    I realize this is a different case but given you will be coming to the US at the end of your trip I just wanted you to be aware that in my particular experience they do ask for documents. Check before you travel for both Canada and the USA.

  13. Does anyone here have an insight as to when the timetable will be published?

     

    I know there is the Liverpool to NYC crossing planned July 4 but I'm looking to come the other way, probably on the return crossing (family moving back to UK).

     

    Historically, do they publish in a certain month/week?

     

    The concern is getting Kennel spaces so we need to book the moment they will accept bookings.
