  1. We'll only 9 more nights before we go on our cruise, thomson dream to panama/ Cuba , not that I'm getting excited or anything, still got new year to go, but think we're having a quiet one as with 14 nights A/I on board, I'm saving myself to go around the ships bars and gantries, look out Dream here comes the Muffinman :D , hope to meet loads of nice people onboard to, see you all soon

    Alex aka Muffinman

Cases are all packed heading for Manchester tomorrow:D:D. It's New Year in Playa Del Carmen for us 28deg:cool::cool:Hope to see you the following week. Dave & Carol. Happy New Year when it arrives Alex.

  2. Just wondering, what's the age of all the passangers that's going on this cruise, me and my misses don't want to be sitting at night just the 2 of us because everyone else is tucked up in bed after 10pm:D , I've heard on these cruises at this time of year that 99% of people are 70+ , not saying we will be in the disco every night! that's if they open it for just 2people lol, but we like to sit up and chat until the wee small hours. Hope I've not offended anyone or being to nosey, I will start, we are early 50s , hope to hear all your comments ;) , and no telling lies as I will guess your age when I see you :), chat soon

Hi Muffinman we are on this cruise the week before you. We are in our late fifties, usually never tucked up in bed before midnight. We can usually be found sitting at the back of ship at night watching the world sail by. Most of the cruises we have done at this time of year has been a mixture of ages. We shall have to arrange a meeting place when you and Iain come on board. Dave & Carol:D:D

  3. I know this has been asked many times before, but I can't find the posts! Do Thomson still allow you to buy duty free spirits on board for cabin consumption? We will be on the Spirit in July ( Arctic Affair ). We were on Spirit 2 years ago & it was on sale then.

    Thanks for any help,

    Jean.

Hi Jean, We sailed on the Spirit last year and were able to buy duty free spirits on board. The duty free opened on the Saturday night 9:30 - 11:00. They also had a 15% sale on the Sunday sea day 9:00am-10:00pm where you were able to buy a 1lt of spirits for about £10. Wont be long now:D:D Looking forward to meeting everybody on the Sunday afternoon.

  4. Thanks everyone!! I fancy seeing Mount Teide so might look at embarking in Gran Canaria so we can have a full day in Tenerife and do it properly. And by the sounds of it, areas close to the port in Gran Canaria sound nice so will be easy to just get off thip on embarkation day and have a wonder.

We've embarked in Madera, Tenerife and Grand Canaria. Much preferred Gran Canaria plus the airpot is not as busy as Tenerife plus there are fewer passengers boarding in Gran Canaria. Mount Teide was an amazing trip also did Timanfaya aswell.

  5. Before myself and Mrs JTS are off on the Maj for the first time, really looking forward to it.Weather not looking great(a mixed bag) but hey ho wont spoil it for us.

Anyone else fortunate enough or unfortunate enough to be jetting out to Corfu this Friday to join the Maj with us? :D

Afraid we are not on this trip with you this time Jim. We were on the Majesty last week, had such a great week, first time to Venice such an amazing place. Have a great time Jim.

  6. Having a great time and enjoyed meeting up with you all. Standard cabins fine for us. We have been trying a few out. Started in 4026 then bad flood moved us to 6008 for 2 nights and we were moved into 4022 today hopefully for rest of cruise. Love Majesty though and itinerary brilliant.

Brilliant cruise, just a pity it had to end, first time visiting Venice got up 6am to watch the sail in amazing. Met Ann & Ted, sorry I did not get the chance to meet the rest of you (kept looking at everybody's footwear looking for orange crocs) met a few old friends and a lot of new friends as you do on Thomson ships. Now looking forward to the next one.:D:D

  7. I'm doing the Pride of Panama cruise and they have a sail thru the panama canal which i imagine would be quite popular , so i think i'll book that and leave the rest until on-board , thanks for the advice :)

Hi Iain I quite fancy doing that excursion aswell. Another excursion I fancy is the Porta Rican Amazon boat trip. I was just going to book them when I get on board at the excursion meeting .

  8. Just a note to all those sailing on this great itinerary on 2 May 2014- if you want to say hello you will recognise me by the black top with a big red flower pinned on it, and I am short and round with fair hair. Hubby looks like most other men on board- he's thin, grey hair and glasses!

Do say hello- it's nice to put a face to the name after all these messages!

Is there anyway I will recognise you?

    Flopsy (Ann & Ted)

Hi everybody would be great to put faces to the names. We sound a bit like you Flopsy, wife (Carol) is short and round and I'm (Dave) a bit like your hubby without the glasses except for reading. We usually sit on the port side of the boat as OH smokes. We shall all have to meet up next Friday at Topsiders bar for sail away.

  9. I am so glad to be going to the Fjords this year then.

There's always Fred Olsen. Think they may be busy next year with Thomson cruisers.

They go from local ports too! They have 2 in Scotland, Rosyth about 20 minutes from us and Greenock under an hour.

Likewise Little Nell. A bit disappointed, would liked to have done the Fire & Ice cruise with Thomson. It looks like we will have to go with Fred Olsen from Rosyth next year.On the plus side, there have been quite a few good deals lately, buy one get one half price on some cruises out of Rosyth or Leith to the Fjords and Baltics:eek:.Dont think we will get these offers next year.

  10. We didn't fill in a form either but were given canapés every night of our 22 night cruise. To tell the truth we had no idea why we got them until we got home and someone said it was for loyalty. I know many of the others who were onboard have cruised more than we have and they didn't get anything

We were the same never filled in the form in either and were given a plate of fancy chocs and a plate of canapes on our Canaries cruise. Also received an invitation to the hotel manageress table for the New Years eve party for being repeat cutomers:confused::confused:. Rather have a free upgrade or discount off the next cruise:rolleyes::rolleyes:.

  11. I received an invitation from Thoms to attend their cruise event today. Having been browsing the brochure I suggested to Hubs that perhaps we would pop along to see what they were offering. Now perhaps I am very naive but I expected there to be some incentive to book whilst there. I had already looked at the Panama/Cuban Fusion itinerary, got a feel for the prices and discussed it with the Hubs. We decided that it's the one we would like to do so sat down with the sales rep and booked there and then. You know how the sales jargon goes ... "these prices are only available today" ... Surprise, surprise we ended up paying £18 more than we would have done by booking online!! I feel slightly peeved that we travelled 30 miles for something we could have done from home for slightly less. Something to bear in mind in future methinks

A bit Deja vu here, we did exactly the same as you:D:D. Went down to our local hotel and had a chat with the sales rep. Were told the price, asked her to check the web price just to see if there was any difference. Price came back the same. So much for a cruise sale:confused:. So we're going to Jamaica aswell:D:D.

  12. Well I have spent the afternoon packing for our cruise next week and the baggage allowance is tight for 2 weeks away. Given the recent reviews I am not inclined to waste baggage space on formal outfits for a mediocre meal in the MDR (And having attended 80+ captains nights over the years would not miss this much either).

Has anyone skipped the formal night and just eaten in the buffet. What was it like and did you feel out of place in the bars or theatre etc?

From the perspective of those who do dress up would you be offended by someone in smart casual in the bar areas on formal night (we would obviously avoid the MDR as not dressed).

Hi Eglsbrech, we've just returned after two weeks on the Celebration. The formal night is on Sunday heading to Funchal, we did not go to any of the formal nights, we were invited to join the hotel manger at her table on New Years eve as a thank you for being a regular customer but declined that aswell. We ate in the buffet those nights and went to the shows aswell. We dressed smart casual most nights, the meals in the buffet were fine plenty of choice to choose from. The shows were fabulous as usual not to be missed. Hope this helps.

  13. I would happily have paid for a can of mixer....on the Dream in November the mixer was flat all the time and they drowned the spirits....at least if you have the can to yourself you can add as little or as much as you like...When I asked for a gin with a can on the side I was told it was not allowed  we found the drinks service and quality poor on Dream..I hope its improved if we decide to go again!

What we usually do is bring our own mixers on board with us. We order extra cans of coke when we were on the Majesty and kept them in the cabin as they were starting to run out of coke and would use the Pepsi brand:eek:. We would then stock up with coke when we docked at whatever port we were in.
