  1. Hi Kk

Please add a round trip 7 day California coastal on the Crown Princess leaving L.A. on April 5th 2014.

Add on to the 49 days round S.A. One way to avoid the long immigration lines ;) Started out as a way to get a shorter flight home. Cruise to Hawaii and fly to Brisbane from there but the US passenger services act put paid to that. Can't disembark from a US port unless you have been to a foreign country. Good idea while it lasted but I am happy with the result. Get to see San Francisco and a bit more of the CA coast. Plus another 7 days of a ship:D

  3. You should also put some of your clothes into each others checked bags..odds are at least ONE of your bags will show up.

We do that now whenever we fly and whenever we board ships direct from the airport. Fortunately our next cruise leaves from our 'home' port. I do so LOVE this. None of the worries about luggage.:D Only trouble is I have received so many good tips about cool things to take on a cruise, I am getting worried I might not have any room for clothes:o

  4. That's what I did for our luggage, and it is the best idea when you are trying to locate your luggage on the carousel at the airport ! My husband didn't like the bright pink, though! Ha ha.

It also makes sure nobody inadvertently walks off with your luggage that happens to look the same as theirs. Not as easy to do today -with so much extra security etc. - but -particularly at domestic airports -it can happen (and did to me in 1995 at Heathrow-leaving me without my clothes for 3 days til the mistake was discovered and corrected - had to borrow DHs clothes to go shopping:o in the meantime). Now we always travel with a spare outfit in carry-on and checked luggage is always 'marked' to easily identify- so bight pink sounds good to me.;)

  5. After 20+ cruises with Princess, I discovered the following from Room Service a year or so ago regarding ordering breakfast room service from the card that is left on your pillow each night:

If you don't want to commit to a specific delivery time in the morning, just call Room Service when you are awake and ready to place an order. Room Service will be happy to deliver, always arriving quickly from my experience.

I discovered this by accident. On sea days, we never set an alarm clock (nothing worse than having to set an alarm for just room service delivery). One morning I called to place just a coffee order; the helpful room service person taking the order asked if I wanted anything else. I was surprised and told him that I was thought it was too late to order breakfast items since I didn't leave the card out the night before. He told me "No issue - just call in the morning when you are ready to order". I did this last year in all 3 cruises, not one issue.

Note: I have never ordered anything that is not listed on the room service menu for breakfast. Don't want to go there, especially if I discover they will deliver bacon. We try to eat "light" for breakfast. LOL

Our 'alarm' is the room service delivery knock:cool:

  6. I googled bongo ties -they look great - but I ended up on a website called quirky. I have ordered the 60 pack of things like bongo ties but with hooks. Cost a fair bit to get them sent to Australia but I can see heaps of use for them and I will give lots to my son & daughter. I intend to take heaps with me on our upcoming cruise. Can't get them or bongo ties in aust. But I am working on converting ordinary rubber bands into makeshift bongo ties. I think they are a great idea and thanks the tip.

  7. There really are some great ideas here:D. However regards the undies:o one thing I hate is undies that are unconfomfortable and if I am going to throw them out they are past their use by date for me. I actually buy new undies for cruises so I can walk around in ports in comfort. Besides they take so little room. Shoes are what do me in:o no matter how hard I try I can never seem to cut down on my supply.

  8. We always have a good time. We each stick with our normal drink which are not on the $5 list. Some nights I'll just have a couple of pieces of cheese and a few crackers. We enjoy sitting and talking to people.

This is what I like about the PES lounge-disappointed to see Japanese Slipper not on the cocktail list-my favourite-but then again next cruise out of Aust. so no PES lounge at all:( Chairman If the Board will put you to bed:p

  9. :) I have read a zillion helpful hints here on CC... I have to say three I have used the most:

Clothes Pins...always bring a few to hang our wet things on the bathroom shower line.

Small Flash Light...for just in case.

Zip Lock Baggies...I take a gallon zip lock, put in a wet hand towel fill it 1/2 full of ice..add just a bit of water...and tuck it into my insulated carry bag. It is so great when we take 'hot' excursions or if we are on a 'beach' day...to cool us down or wash off the ocean water.:D

One tip I learned on CC (for packing clothes really) is that things must have more than 1 use.

I don't always stick to this advice, but I try.

I think the Zip Lock tip for "hot' excursions is fabulous and I certainly will be using it for our upcoming trip which has a LOT of HOT excursions - and a couple of 'beach days'

  10. OK - now I understand:o One of my gripes actually as I was annoyed to find that Princess do not offer the PES lounge/happy hour on Aust. based ships:(. Its a very nice, convivial way to catch up with friends at the end of the day). Most often have a different drink rather than the 'special' but it is a nice meeting place and really missed it on the Sun.

Unfortunately IMHO if Princess really want to save money they could do away with the farce of the Captain's "Cocktail Party" and the "Champagne Waterfall". These classic cruise icons have been bastardized to such a degree that we don't go to them anymore. They are a bun fight and an embarrassment. Another reason we miss the PES lounge so much. Maybe it is 'big ship' syndrome:(

  11. I had bookmarked a great website that told which cabins had covered balconies on Princess ships, and the balcony sizes. Now I can't find it, so can anyone help me out with the website?

    Many thanks!

    Gloria

Hope someone comes up with it. I would like to know tio:p
