  1. I really can't answer this question, but the upgrade fairy visited me twice on a recent cruise on the MSC Seaside.  I was so impressed with the upgrade suite (aft wraparound balcony on deck 9) that I tried to book the suite on a future cruise on the Seascape, but to no avail.  Those suites were already book.

Regardless, it was a very pleasant surprise and experience.   I owe thanks to MSC for this one.

  2. Of all the drink packages offered Celebrity's is my favorite.  This is simply because it includes Cafe al Bacio.  I no longer sail on Celebrity unless it is included, and now it is!  I have never felt the need to upgrade, but my taste is simple.  Wine at dinner, maybe one cocktail during the day, and always some cappuccino.

  3. Another consideration for some of us is traveling with a CPAP. While CEL will provide an extension chord, it still means taking up an outlet overnight. I typically pack a power strip and sometimes it's been ok, and sometimes I have to make a trip to security. My favorite device now is a combo 4-outlet and 4 USB port outlet. It's great for travel, but I have not taken it on a cruise. At least I'm not bringing an iron on board.

I am in the same situation. I have never had to discuss this with security, so I assume they are starting to enforce the rules regarding the power strip. I have been on some newer ships that actually provided an extra outlet near the bed for CPAP devices, but as you know that is rare. Thanks for you post since it appears I may need to carefully select a power strip to bring.

  4. We reached Zenith last year. It wasn't a goal, but just happened. Now that we reached Zenith I admit that I enjoy the free laundry, free internet, premium beverage package and Michael's Club access. When we were Elite+ I appreciated the two bags of laundry per person and the internet minutes.

But what actually kept us returning to Celebrity through the years was the fact that Celebrity was the first mainstream line to tackle smoking by limiting outdoor smoking venues and stopping interior smoking. My husband hates the smell of cigarettes, but I have allergy issues. Being around smoking makes me very congested.

And I agree -- there really needs to be a loyalty level somewhere between Elite+ and Zenith.

Interesting thread, but I would agree that for me Celebrity's smoking policy is a major reason we cruise Celebrity as noted by this post and some others as well.

  5. Many thanks to those who have posted on this thread. I am also about to go on my first cruise on NCL, but have cruised many times on other cruise lines. I look forward to checking it out. I have noticed that room service is not free on the NCL website, but wonder if they charge for coffee service to the room in the morning? I always tip, but have not experienced a charge for this service. Thanks again.

  6. Yes, and No as others have posted. I often sail on Celebrity Cruise Lines which does not allow smoking in the interior of the ship. They do allow smoking at certain locations on or above the lido deck. It does make a difference for me, and when I go on an Alaskan cruise I certainly look at Celebrity for this reason. I think Celebrity has a good balance of policy in this regard, but that opinion would need to come from smokers I guess. Perhaps NCL should take a look at this for their next step??

  7. Hello,

I typically drive to various ports. The last time I sailed out of Miami I was able to obtain a cruise package at the Hilton Garden Inn at Dania Beach. This included one night stay, free parking for my car, and a roundtrip shuttle ride to the Port of Miami. I sailed in early April and the price was very reasonable for that time of year. Dania Beach is North of Miami near Fort Lauderdale, so it is important to be clear you need the shuttle for the Port of Miami, and not the Port Everglades shuttle.

  8. I hope the Fascination either stays in Jacksonville, or at least in the area (i.e. Charleston...even Savannah). So far, my DW and I would say it was our favorite cruise. However, I certainly understand the issue since there was only about 4 feet of clearence under the bridge when leaving port.
