  1. Just off B2B on Conquest Nov. 19-Dec. 3. Our take on bars:

    1. Alchemy (5 aft). Vera, Anton and Zeljana were the best! So friendly and fun. They make great drinks too.

    2. Artists Bar (3 forward). Pari and Arie were friendly and fast with wine, soft drinks or whatever cocktail we ordered. Live music and trivia were enjoyable too.

    3. Pool bar (9 aft). I Ketut makes the best spicy bloody Mary's on the ship. It's busy but bartenders are fast and courteous.

    4. Serenity bar (12 forward). Open limited hours with a special menu although they will make anything you request. I don't recall the young lady's name but she was very friendly and always smiling.

    5. The Point steakhouse bar (10 mid). Open in the evenings and you can go to bar without having a steakhouse reservation. They have some very nice cocktails and better wines.

We had Cheers program for both cruises and totally enjoyed all the bars, bartenders and bar servers.

Thanks for sharing this! I loved the Alchemy Bar on the Victory and looking for to visiting the one on Conquest.

  2. It’s a personal decision to me. On the last Carnival cruise I took, my Group was celebrating our high school reunion so we drank a good bit. Plus I like all of the other non-alcoholic beverages that is included . I will be purchasing Cheers again next year.

  3. Since I have no way to know who gets the 15% I paid when I bought the Cheers package, I always tip $1 or 2 for each drink, especially when it's from Alchemy. Those drinks take time to make! Had amazing service the entire cruise, but I would like to think it's because they're awesome bartenders and not because of a few dollars:)

I tipped over the 15% as well. They would make drinks specific to my taste that weren't on the menu. I also sat and got to know the bartenders. I would also hope that I received excellence service because they are good people.

  4. I agree with the above. I would also add a $1-$2 to each of my drink order. I got to know the Alchemy Bar staff quickly and whenever one saw me, she would start on a drink that she came up with herself (and wasn't on the menu). Just chatting with people goes a long way as well.

  5. Strongly suggest buying the Spice Necklaces from a shop rather than buying them from a beach vendor at a less expensive price where they've been hanging out in the sun all day.

Do you have any favorite shops?

  6. I brought back an Ulu knife, children's books written by Alaskan authors, glacier skit soap, Alaskan coffee (as gifts), ornaments from different cities (it's a tradition of ours), White Pass Railway puzzle for my son, and a Ray Troll shirt.

    Lots of pics too!

  7. Has anyone purchased the soap from Glacier Smoothies? The testimonials all have great things to say and I wonder if any CC folks have any input. Thought it might be a little piece of Alaska (glacier silt) to bring home for others. Are there are "knock offs" of this idea even though they have a patent? Appreciate any input.

Great question! I was wondering about their soaps too.

  8. Ulu knives are like cutlery. You can buy a cheap useless knife for $2.00 which will hold it's edge for about 5 minutes, a fine knife with a great handle and great steel that will be sharp for a long time at great cost, and almost anything in between.

You need to decide if you are buying the Ulu just as a souvenir or as a knife that you will actually use in your kitchen and buy accordingly. If the latter, you need to make sure that the knife is comfortable to hold. We bought one that my wife liked with a really nice handle for maybe $70. We also spent about $30 of a nice bowl. She uses it all the time..

    DON

Good to know. I plan on using it because I love to cook. I will hold a few before purchasing. Thanks!

  9. They are EVERWHERE. They seem to be a featured item of nearly every gift shop. There are varying qualities from cheap Chinese knock offs (I wouldn't recommend) to very expensive and ornate sets made by Alaskans. I bought one in the middle (made in Alaska); cost about $35 or $40 with my discount coupon which you will find all over the place.

Thanks! I want to go middle of the road too. I will definitely look for all products made in Alaska.
