Just wanted to highly recommend Woodwind for snorkeling tours.

We have done many excursions, and this one is by far the best organized and best run excursion we have ever taken.

It is a short walk once you get off the boat.

The things that set them apart:

Before you get in the water - they size you for masks and fins.  If you bring your own, they will defog your masks

They provide short and long sleeve snorkel shirts if you want to borrow one

They divide the boat into 5-8 people groups and they have a guide for each group.

The guide will show you different fish as  you go along

They drop you off uptide and let you drift back to the boat - however the boat is available to pick you up at any point if you need

The first spot was about 35 minutes of water time, and the second spot was slightly shorter

When  you get back on the boat - you hold onto a yellow rope and they come behind you and remove your fins, and hand them to you once you are back on the boat.

They have a wide variety of drinks available -  alcoholic and regular

They provided orange slices, a plate of food (noodles and chicken) and cheesecake

Just can't recommend them highly enough!

You will have a fabulous time.

I have snorkeled all over the world.  This was the best experience I have ever had.

    They are fantastic people.

I still pull up photos they took on our trip, when I need a mental vacation.

You can purchase the complete download of pics they preview for you. So glad I did this, they are beautiful. Especially the ones with the sea turtles and our group .

We are sailing again this October but, unfortunately not stopping at Bonaire.

    Definately, an amazing experience .

(this is a protected reef area and is like snorkeling in an aquarium.)

    Have a fantastic trip.

Wow! Again,, second time with Woodwind and it was even better!!! The people and attention to detail are the best … onboard and behind the scenes!  I’ve quoted words that I repeat to others all the time!!

At Mahogany Bay, I would suggest getting a day pass at one of the all inclusive resorts on West Bay -snip- it is beautiful and the day passes give you use of the resort's facilities. The locals have their tour stuff set up to the right of the port facility, they have cabs and stuff to take you, and they'll set up a time to pick you up and take you back to the ship.

    Rony! http://www.barefeetbar.com/

On west end beach area ! Great place ,,

Cozumel has barhoppers .. east side of island the have no electrical power, wonderful views and booze!

We do a couple of bars , like coconuts by taxi cheaper than barhoppers

    snip

. After driving the Jeep for about 45 minutes through a jungle, you go have lunch prepared by Beliezean women - chicken, rice, beans, potato salad and plantains.

You sure it was chicken? Or just tasted like chicken ?  Lol

btw,  https://cavetubing.bz/ are excellent, I’ve been on a number of their excursions, some issues that arose , they took care of them ASAP

one group of 4 were left behind from another company , the .BZ bus we were on had room and timing to get them back to their ship just in time, they made sure it didn’t offend the primary passengers before they confirmed the stranded ones could ride ,,, top notch,

i love their “chicken” dinner and beverages as well

I know platinum gets priority boarding but are platinum cruisers permitted to go to their cabin once they board or do we wait until 1:30?

A journey cruise on miracle from Tampa on dec 2018, we had to wait for cabin keys for access, almost all passengers were plats and they had too many rooms to have ready earlier than 1:30

If boarding pass does not say Priority at top, the friend will not board as such.  .

First time cruisers friends boarded with us thru the plat line, the second line inside divided us , their line moved slightly faster than us, but we merged back together quite quickly!

A journey cruise on miracle from Tampa on dec 2018

On miracle  dec 2018, the 'rooms not ready' signs did not have the tiny text at the bottom saying 'platinum and diamond come on it.

i went to cabin anyway to find the keys were not in the mailbox,, we left the carry on in hall like it was our other luggage that would be delivered soon and headed to serenity pool with swim gear out of carry on, changed in washroom on that deck ,, worked out just fine!

Many bartenders will make you a new drink if you are polite and really don't like what you ordered, or they can even "fix" a drink.

    True !

But I love Baileys lol ,,  I think it is vermouth that I have to avoid ,, lol

  7. I found same drinks at different bars , different prices ,,

if you get a cheers drink in casino , walk to next bar where “friends” are waiting ,, and leave that drink in front of them, then order another ... just saying ,, nuff said!

if you hang out at alchemy, you want cheers!

you can try drinks and if you don’t like it ,, try another! Or get them to alter it a bit ,, more heat,, more of something else ,,

    meester_jamie,

The Carnival Miracle will dock at the Mega Cruise Terminal, berth 1 (the one nearest to the Rif Fort).

When you leave the ship head across the  concrete walkway past the Curacao sign, past the tourist booth and the white tent like awnings, keep going to your right and head past the taxi stand and the shops to the port security gate.

When you exit the security gate continue to walk along the decorative foot path, sea on your right, gardens/park on your left. The path jogs to your left, than to your right and goes between the Renaissance Hotel & Casino on your left and shops on your right.

The seating area in front of the Renaissance Hotel is where guests can have breakfast, next to this is the Casino entrance. On the other side, in front of the shops, is a seating area with a number of seats and sun shades (umbrellas) where everyone sits and connects to the free WiFi. This is a good place to meet and takes about 5 to 10 minutes to walk to from the ship.

The actual walk is a lot easier than trying to descibe it as there is only one way to go and it is sort of obvious once you are there.

If you continue down this path you will get to the Rif Fort, walking through the fort gets you to the seawall and the road to the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge.

    NAGooner

    Thanks for the info !

We followed most of this, but turned short , towards Starbucks

that takes you near the entrance to the parking garage beside Starbucks where the guard and gates are

wifi was great at this location

short walk opposite the ball diamond

our friends found us just because they were heading to park there and use the wifi to get our messages so we hopped into their  car

After our grand tour of Curacao , we came back to the same parking lot to park and then continue this sight seeing that you mentioned.

first, off to the floating bridge, some snack and beverages on the far side to watch the bridge open and close a few times, then back past vendors , thru fort upper seaside walkway , then around the stores .. then up to the renaissance infinity pool, and a short walk back to ship!

Your description is very informative and as you said “ obvious once you are there”

On the Christmas cruise we took a few years ago there was a huge blizzard up north 2 nights before we sailed.  All the airports in the northeast were closed for days during and after the storm.

As a result 400 out of 1,200 people missed our sailing.  Even worse the itinerary was a sea day and then Half Moon Cay so if one wanted to catch up it would have been day 3 of a 7 day trip.

Wow,, sounds like 3 days left .. almost no Choice ...catch up to the ship because if you stayed in Florida you have to pay the motel rooms and food for the week,, probably couldn’t catch a early flight home,,   That would be terrible decisions have to be made .

You would lose that bet.  You can’t get “deals at the port”.  Especially after boarding has closed (hence the denial referenced by the OP).

They also don’t upsell vacant cabins to onboard guests.

The cabin either remained vacant or was used as a substitute if something happened to make another cabin uninhabitable.

    Both points ,, very true!

They allow people to board after final boarding all the time at ports of call.  The slippery slope argument just doesn't hold water.

I'm not sure the lesson learned here.  You may want to consider a hotel the night before.  But honestly, bad things happen sometimes.  Flights are missed, cruise ships get stuck or are severely delayed and everyone misses flights home, etc.  Things just, kind of, happen.  You lost nothing other that the cruise.  You aren't out any more money than you would have been if you went.  In fact, you'll save money since many fees, excursions, drink packages, etc, will all be refunded.  Your only loss here is disappointment and you'll save some money, too. That's it. <snip>

Personally, I'd make the most of it.  Enjoy the week off, find some fun stuff to do with family, and move on.

    Pretty well our philosophy! BNBR

We have been late twice for “bad things happen” ,, once was 20 min into muster when we got there ,, folks weren’t happy as they assumed we were just delinquent ,, when a few ppl heard one plane caught fire and had to emergency land,, and second plane had the cargo door knocked off while loading the beers! They we a lot more friendly!

They did delay departing the ship,, I doubt they held the ship for us ,, but I had been on the phone to carnival to let them know the 3 hr window the booked for us was gone ,, so they knew we were coming,,,,  we did not have carnival booked ground transportation,,  We lucked into a carnival bus at airport as they had 2 other couples on another ship who were delayed getting in to airport

We had to drag our own luggage all the way thru terminal to cabin,,

only 2 ppl left in terminal , place was a ghost town!, to check us in, X-ray bags, no boarding pics ,, run run run,, then they escorted us to our cabin to drop luggage and be “evacuated “ to ensure cabin was empty ,, and escorted to muster ,, to a round of applause for the “last ones” to appear ,, (Although we weren’t the last one as there were some elderly people who showed up later)

Phew! We didn’t miss the ship tho!

Cars break down.  Planes have mechanical problems.  Weather happens.  I live 4 hours from the airport.  Out of 8 cruises where I was scheduled to fly in the day before, I ended up getting the first flight the next morning two of those times due to 1) mechanical problems and 2) weather.  As I age, I'm beginning to think that even a day before isn't enough.

Yup ,, I think 2 days is relaxing!

What also seems to have been missed thus far is that insurance would NOT have covered this event. <snip>

.  When you make your own arrangements to get to the port, you really do have to get to the port before the cutoff time.

This has been my experience,, loads of fine print on insurance policies as well

even if carnival makes the arrangements, the ship can leave you behind ,, then you have to get a room! Wait for a flight to the next port with airport ,, probably after a sea day away,, sooo another room , a few meals ,, by the time you connect with the ship , you’re 2 days into the 7 day cruise ,, sigh ,, carnival picks up the flight ,, but you probably pay more for the rooms, extra meals, transportation, than you paid for the cruise!

I’ve talked to a few folks making their way onboard 2 days late and they confirmed it cost them a lot to catch the ship ,, sigh,, sooo frustrating

Such a shame. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Imagine the excitement of a vacation, only to find out you can't go, but you paid for it.

Being as far away from ports as I am, I always fly in the night before. In fact, that is part of the vacation! Enjoying all that the port has to offer adds to the variety of this vacation. The only problem we have with the hotel, is trying to limit it. 1 day turns into 2, which turns into 3.

    Well said!

<snip>The port is about 6 hours away. Her mom did not want to book a room <snip> But it is always safer to drive the night before. I doubt they will get any money back,

Sorry to hear , this would be frustrating!

I assume the left home about 4 am to drive 6 hrs and arrive mid morning,, I would’ve booked a room!! or they may have left at 6am to arrive noonish,, not that bad,, but a 3 hr window can disappear in a hurry ! So *I* think your right to drive the night before!

  16. Ymmv is true! My opinion is you won’t have a problem ,, if you have a happy face ,, don’t ask for permission,, don’t point out the drinks ,, keep them occupied on your happyness,, be nice when you beg forgiveness, point out half the case is someone else’s ... is that within the rules ,, you carry on 10, but 5 are mine? In the sealed container box ,,

me,, I’d do attempt and not blink any eye but ymmv its true,

  17. can I check thru carnival .com to see if 2 other couples we are traveling with are linked to our dining times , table, ,? Does this apply to check in times? I doubt that ,, as 4 ppl are plat, 2 are first time cruisers, so I suspect they will not be priority,, but first come.

I could not find it at carnival.com so I was thinking to call carnival or TA

54 days! Til miracle heads to Panama
