Hapuna is very easy to get to with a car. After passing the Waikaloa Resorts about 35 mi north of Kona there's an intersection with a light. Helicopter tours on that corner. Proceed about 3 more miles on the main highway where there will be the next intersection, Puako Beach Rd. One mile beyond there is a left turn lane into Hapuna. There is a small parking charge. For relaxing and just getting in the water Hapuna is one of the best beaches anywhere. Kahaluu is easier to get to but extremely crowded, wall to wall people, but again, most Caribbean beaches are that crowded too.
