  1. Has anyone on here ever shipped their luggage to a hotel in the port city.  We are driving with four people and will be on the road for 3 or 4 days.  It would be a lot easier if we didn't have to carry luggage in and out of the hotels each night.  Plus we would have extra room.  If you have used one of these luggage shippers, how were your clothes, were they in good shape or vary wrinkled, etc.

Hi Villcruise...Can you please try and reverify that? I received a call from my PCC earlier today stating that there will be smoking in the casino on the Rotterdam. I tend to believe her on this.

Sorry for the delay in responding.  I talked with Shawn at Ship Services, he said "at this time, the current plan is for no smoking in the casino on the Rotterdam". The only change he could see is one or two nights that would allow smoking ( complete opposite to the past where there was one or two nights that were non-smoking). He did say that was probably not going to happen. New Covid rules also could play into the decision to not have any smoking indoors.

All I know is that I contacted Holland and talked with Michelle Janicki, whose title is Ship Services Coordinator. She sent me an email on 7/27/20 in which she states that she checked with her supervisor, who is in charge of guest services for all ships.  The email states that  the Ryndam ( now named Rotterdam) will not allow smoking inside.  Instead casino guests that wish to smoke can go outside the casino on deck 3 from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am.  I hope they haven't changed their mind.  I intend to call Miss Janicki again and see what the current plan is.

Not trying to be pedantic, but what ship is "the new Koningsdam"?

Koningsdam has been sailing for several years and as mentioned above, smoking is permitted in areas of the casino.

Sorry, senior moment, the ship I meant to reference is the new Rotterdam.  I know they had allowed smoking on the Koningsdam and Statendam.  Sailed the Statendam and the smoke in the casino was horrible.  I think the new regulations, after this pandemic, may change smoking policies.

We'll book the new Rotterdam When we hear the Casino is SMOKE FREE. We sailed on the Konigsdam  twice and liked everything about it except the horrid smell in the Casino (even on non-smoking nights) and you have to pass thru to get to the front elevator. Meantime there are other HAL ship for us.

I agree with you, we spend a lot of time in the casino. We want to book the T/A so I called Holland and spoke with Michelle Janicki.  She checked with powers to be and sent me an email stating there will be no smoking in the casino of the Ryndam/Rotterdam.  Only question is can we believe them.

  6. I would not book a cabin on deck six as it is just above a busy public deck.  Seven would be much quieter.  Also, I agree you would most likely prefer the Equinox with a true balcony vs the Infinite balcony.  We have sailed on all of the S class except the Equinox ( which we will be doing a b2b on in January) and out of over 40 cruises those are our favorites.

It seems that from the things that you outlined you enjoyed from this sailing, you probably would enjoy the older, smaller Royal ships.  Although I have yet to find a cruise ship casino that wasn't stinky and smoky, but I'm highly sensitive to it.

Try Celebrity as the casinos are no smoking, that is what we have one.

We are recently retired and plan on traveling quite a bit.  At least two cruise and two-theee trips a year overseas and around the US.  We always purchase trip insurance for our cruises.  We have excellent insurance through BlueCross/BlueShield.  My concern is mainly for medical and medical transport if we are visiting a country before a cruise.  For example we are going to visit throughout Spain before our Fall Transatlantic.   How do you handle the insurance for something like this ... by trip or for a year.

    Any information would be great.

Travelex will sell you medical only coverage on a per trip basis if that is what you want.  Price has been very reasonable for us.

  9. Anyone recently in a balcony cabin on the front of the hump.  Is there excessive wind ?  We always try to book on the back of a hump as we have for the Equinox in January.  Friends are joining us, there first time on Celebrity, and they have booked a cabin, deck seven, front of the rear hump.  I want them to have a great time and, like us, make Celebrity their primary line.  Wrong cabin location can be a problem.

  10. We are looking at trying Princess

Please tell me if you have sailed both Princess and Celebrity and what you prefer and why

Things to know about the loyalty points/programs... like does level of cabin booked matter

Is the ship experience A la Carte or are there best bets for wine/spirits, specialty dining

We're over 50, enjoy great food/great service and meeting interesting people

One huge thing not mentioned is that Celebrity casinos are no smoking.

  11. A recent review of the Equinox talked about high minimums ( $15.00 blackjack $10.00 per bet for 3 card poker, etc.) Is this also now the limits on other Celebrity ships? We were on the Eclipse last January where both blackjack and 3 card had a $5.00 minimum. We have a group that will be on the January 29th Reflection and enjoy the casino.

  12. We will be cruising on the Nieuw Amsterdam on Monday, 1/11. Does anyone know if the College Football Championship game will be available on board? Thanks!

Glad you asked, I have the same question as we will also be on that cruise. Seeing that you are from Nebraska I imagine you are a Big 10 fan. We are too, only it's Wisconsin.

  13. Our return flight is not until 3:30pm after a Reflection cruise in November. As a way of killing time I was thinking of a Celebrity tour of which there are two. Has anyone taken one of these and if so what time does it depart and since they use airboats are you a wind blown mess for the trip home ?
