We are scheduled to be in DR on the Escape on 1/9. One of the main reasons for choosing this cruise over others (considered RC and Carnival) was the DR stop. I have a private tour booked, and will not be happy if we miss this port, especially if the cruiseline knows in advanced and chooses to hide this info from customers.
There are 2 Carnival ships, one RC, and the Escape currently on the Amber Cove schedule (cruisemapper.com). And based on history, it appears to be only a 50% chance of making it to GSC! Oy Vey, fingers crossed.
This is what I see on Amber Cove’s website. Doesn’t look good for your date on 1/9, or mine for 1/30. 😕
I know that there are many unforeseen circumstances that prevent a ship from docking, but, this is reasonably “foreseen” and feels like they are not being upfront and honest with their customers.

Hi all,
I’ve been reading this thread fairly closely, and I think my stop in “Puerto Plata” will be skipped.
I'm on the Escape and due to stop there on Monday, January 30th. I just checked the Amber Cove port website, and I see that carnival spirit and magic are due that day.
Based on that is it safe to assume we’ll be getting a bonus sea day?
Friday that week, we are scheduled in GSC, and after reading all the challenges with tenders, I’m thinking we have reasonably good odds of missing that one as well.
I’m pretty new to this, so I’d love to hear from those with more experience if I am looking at this correctly. Thanks

Hi all,
I just booked my second cruise ever, and first with NCL. I put $100 down payment with AARP in order to get $100 OBC. The ship sails 1/28/23, so the final payment is due. (Although AARP says I don’t have to pay it until sometime in January.)
Now, I looked at the NCL website, and I see an offer for the MC. I’ve tried to check all the fine print, and this is what I think I can do. I’d greatly appreciate if one of you experts can please confirm my understanding, and help me avoid any loopholes I may have missed.
I have a balance of $2,264 + 244 service fees due. Total $2,488
Thinking I can pay the balance, and get the sign on bonus of $250. Then, I believe I’m eligible for an additional $74 dollars for charging on NCL. Total of $324
We are not frequent cruisers, so I’d prefer to get the cash back, or OBC. We are not typically big spenders, so the OBC might be fun to be able to spurge and feel like “It’s free!” 😉
We are going on the Escape to the Caribbean, staying in a “large balcony” cabin.Did I miss anything? Any other guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

A lot of people leave their passports onboard in the safe.
Okay, OP here with a follow up question..
I thought that the big reason you "should" bring your passport is in the event that you are left behind at a port.
But, it would make me nervous to take it out of the safe. If we stop at a beach area, and want to swim, where do I leave my documents and $$$?
Are there typically safes available at ports?

Thanks for all your replies!
I feel so much better getting the advice of all of you experts!

Hi all,
Okay, newbie here, and I have what I believe is an unusual question...
When you board the ship, do they check BOTH your passport and your driver's license? Or is the passport alone enough?
In case you're curious why I'm asking - After I got married, I changed my middle name to my maiden name.
When my DH and I got passports a few years ago, I didn't notice that he filled out my application with my given middle name. It didn't seem to matter, because at the time, my drivers license didn't have any middle name, and that trip was canceled anyway.
Fast forward a few years, and we recently moved to a new state which requires a middle name on your DL.
So, now I'm in the pickle that my DL and passport have the same first and last name, but different middle names!
So.... I think that I'm okay to travel, as I have a passport in order to check into the ship, and heaven forbid need to travel back to the states... But I'm not positive whether my DL will be needed for anything, and if the middle name mix up will be an issue.
So, please let me know whether your DL is compared to your passport..
Thanks
NCL Ships at Amber Cove

How frustrating! I’m on the same itinerary on Escape due to arrive in PP on 1/30. Amber Cove has two carnival ships due that day, and I don’t see it at Nassau either. Anyone have any recommendations where else I can look? Hoping that we’ll go somewhere and not just a sea day. Even if we choose to stay on the ship, at least it would be less crowded if they had some stop.
