  1. My husband and I booked this cruise recently. We have been on the Silhouette once and enjoyed it. There were a lot of gay and lesbian cruisers on board along with a group from Pied Piper. The Martini Bar was very busy in the evening and a great place to meet people. We used to prefer the smaller Millennium class ships, however they have removed a lot of public areas by adding staterooms so Solstice class it is.

    See you on board !!

Looking forward to this cruise. Are you going over early? As Italy is my favorite place in the world, I am planning to spend a few extra days in Roma.

  2. At first I thought, OMG!!!!....(s)he's going to miss the ship, as we're sailing THIS YEAR and the sailing is on Nov 1, in 2014!

I saw the tread for your sailing and I wish I could go this year, but I can't. Well if you like it enough, come aboard again for 2015. When I tell friends about it they ask me is it a gay cruise. I say whenever I board a ship, its a gay cruise.

  3. We were in an aft cabin, right above the PH. My thinking was that if I saw someone on the balcony, I'd call down to them to strike up a friendly conversation and maybe wangle us an invitation to come visit my new friends in the PH.

First morning in St. Croix, I went out and saw a gaggle of people sitting around the table under the umbrella, many of them X staff. Boy, they really go all out to welcome the PH guests, I thought. Shortly, they were joined by a man in a USVI Police t-shirt. Possibly they had a robbery? DW woke up and we went to breakfast.

After breakfast, I came back onto the balcony and saw an older woman, just gazing out at the sea, though we were in port. Still trying to be friendly, I called out, "Good morning! Are you enjoying the cruise so far?" "Not so much," she replied. "My husband died last night."

    :eek::eek::eek:

After thinking about it, if you gotta go, that's a good way. Too bad it wasn't at the end of the cruise.

I was told it's common for someone to pass away on the first night-- all excited about going on a cruise. The wife, as far as I know, disembarked in USVI (in blatant violation of the PVSA, we started from San Juan) and that PH remained vacant for the rest of the cruise.

Wow!!! That's crazy and when I go, I will be OK with it being on a cruise ship. In fact, my plan is after 80 I will begin sailing nothing but Holland America Line for two reasons:

    1. They have some really long cruises (better chances).

    2. Holland America is nothing but God's waiting room.

  4. Was it ever posted on the website? I called Celebrity a few weeks ago about the Constellation Transatlantic (westbound) for 2015 is missing. Upon their investigation, they realized they failed to load it to the web and said it would be posted within the next few days. To date, it's still not there although people have booked it while on other cruises. Apparently it does show in their reservation system.

So my point is, maybe they failed to load the first leg of your Pacific crossing.

  5. Hoping to hear from other guys (or gals) that have booked, or are thinking about booking, this cruise. There was a wonderful bunch on the Reflection 2013 westbound crossing. It would be great to have a similar experience for this exciting itinerary. Drop by, leave a message, and say "hello".

We are thinking of doing this cruise. this would be our 3rd TA, all have been on Celebrity. We are Ron & Harold, both of us are retired.

I know this is very forward thinking and planning, but I ended up booking my first TA last week on the Silhouette for 10/31/15. Since I'm going solo and paying basically double for a 1A, I wanted to book before the prices get crazy. Anyway my question is this, do there tend to be a number of gays on TA sailings? Sounds like your Reflection crossing was well represented and since both of you have done these before, I would be interested in your take on this.

  6. I have done two solo cruises and working on scheduling another. I am a very social and outgoing person and will have friends before the muster drill. No need to give the advice already given by others, but here's a tip. Apply face sunscreen in your stateroom before heading out and use the mirror. I made the mistake (this is how I learned) and applied the sun screen while at the beach. Upon returning to the room, I realized that I looked like a total dork. Also helps to keep a small mirror in your beach bag.

Here's another great story. I met most of the people through the roll call section of Cruise Critic. As you can see from my avatar picture, everyone thought they would be meeting this perky little white woman. Well once on the ship we all agreed to meet at a bar for a sailaway cocktail. When they realized I am not a white woman but a young, fit black guy, it was a total ice breaker and so many people laughed. The best part were the married dudes who said "they were looking forward to meeting this woman who belives in keeping a martini in her hand and daily excercise". I would then ask, "why were you thinking you were meeting a woman, that picture is Julie McCoy from the Love Boat". Again, total ice breaker and still chat with many of these people today.

Have a blast and make memories.
