  1. Does anyone know how long this show is supposed to run onboard? We went on the Oasis and few years ago and loved it, so we were going to jump on her again- but now that I see Mamma Mia is on the Allure- I think we should go with her.

    Thanks!

Mamma Mia was wonderful. We spoke with several cast members, and they gave the impression that this would be the Allure show for quite some time. They had no indication that it would be changing anytime soon because it is so popular. The second show of the week, "Blue Planet" was also spectacular. Enjoy!

  2. Travelling to both on RCI in March. Would like to use a private dive master in either St. Maarten or St. Kitts. 4 people, all certified with equipment.

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome. Trying to weigh which location has the best diving, and interested in shop recommendations. Thank you!

  3. Just off Mariner on Sunday. We were in group 2, scheduled to disembark at 8:00. We got called from the lounge around 9:45, stood in line and actually walked off the ship and onto the gangway at 10:15. Then more lines through the gangway, waiting for the escalator, and before entering the terminal. Claiming bags wasn't a big deal, but there was another long line afterwards. We made it through immigration just slightly after 12:00. HTH

  4. To the OP - Here is the Chop's Menu. Perhaps you can find an appetizer or other item that your children might enjoy. The desserts and sides are wonderful as well! It's a great meal and I hope they can join you for your special occasion. The chef and staff will surely do all they can to accommodate you. Relax and enjoy your first cruise, and prepare to be hooked!

  5. We are just off of the Mariner and had this discussion on the drive home. We have always tipped above the suggested amount for the great service we received and also tend to add tips for the concierge, Adventure Ocean staff, etc.

That said, to be honest we didn't really like the auto gratuity. Previously, we have enjoyed the face to face, "here's your tip and thank you" experience on the last night and morning. It was reassuring to know that our waiter was receiving our full gratuity, directly from us and in cash, and that our appreciation of his service was not going into a pool, or could be taxed. Under the new method, there's no guarantee he will receive our full gratuity, and I hope this new format won't negatively impact the crew. Our waiter was outstanding and we saw no need to visit GS or "deduct" for the night we ate at Chops or Johnny Rockets. I do see that could be a gray area for others, though.

We received a letter from the Hotel Director on the first day stating that for any reason we could stop by GS to dispute a gratuity charge. I, too, am eager to hear from someone who actually did and how the staff replied.

  6. I had been wondering the same thing about the lifeboats. Apparently the captain waited too long to launch them, and once the ship lists past 20 degrees, the angle of inclination is too steep and the boats just get stuck on the side of the ship. I watched the special on TV last night and got a better understanding about the timeline and what happened on board. The muster drill had never happened, and wasn't scheduled to take place until the next morning. So the passengers didn't really know what those bells were, where to go, or what to do. Seems it was pretty chaotic.
