  1. Seems super fussy to me and honestly the guys in our group don't really want to pack sports coats. We are total foodies and appreciate fine dining, just wondering if Palo fits the bill just fine since we are booked there as well? Do we fight the good fight with the guys, or pick another battle? Thanks all!

My husband also hates the sports coat, but will do whatever I ask him to :) It was the most amazing meal I've had on the ship. One of us had the menu created by the French chef, the other the American and we were able to try all 7+ courses by both chefs! We won't miss it next time...

  2.

WE have two people going with us who are diabetic. Does DCL provide refrigerators and biohazard boxes for the room?

They do have the biohazrd boxes, you just have to request it before departure. Contact your travel agent of DCL and they can tell you were to get the form.

There is so much for kids and kids at heart to do. Everyone in your party will have a super great, spectacular time :)

  3. I'm looking at an alaskan cruise out of Vancouver

the price for september 2014 is 8892$ for five people in a family verandah (I have figured out there are no family insides? or family oceanview on this ship)

breaks down to 2790 for each adult and 950 for each child plus around 500$ in taxes.

What was the going price for the cruise when the dates were released?

I'm trying to plan for 2015 and since the dates havent been released and I'm fairly certain with disney cruise line they are cheaper right around the release time, i'd like a good idea of what the cruise fare will be.

Anyone book this cruise for less? Thank you

I spend a lot of time on the DCL sight day dreaming about vacations. The only time I’ve seen prices go up is when the lower cost categories sell out. Otherwise, the rates remain the same for the duration. So if a 6A room starts at $500, it will stay $500 until it sells out. Then it looks like the price goes up because you are in a higher category room. Make sense?

We did a family trip to Alaska out of Vancouver in June 2013. I did a lot of research because I had to justify the expense to the other family members. The cost was about $1,000 pp more, but depending on what's important to you depends on the justification of the increased cost. For us, we like to drink when we are on vacation (no kids). DCL is the only cruise line that allows you to bring alcohol on board. As long as it isn't breakable, and in your carry on, you can bring it. So for us, bringing our own alcohol vs $1,000 extra was almost a wash. The service made up the difference.

Second, no matter what cruise line you choose, pay for the balcony. If we hadn't we would have never seen the whale come up out of the water or the salmon swimming along-side the ship.

Third, we approached this trip as a once in a lifetime opportunity. Little did I know that my husband would be telling me on Day 2 that we would be doing this trip again :o) But choose your excursions based on that. If you only get one shot to see Alaska, what do you want to remember/see?

Lastly, if you are staying in Vancouver before embarkation, the Days Inn Vancouver Downtown is about 2 blocks from the port. Not fancy, but inexpensive. We loaded our luggage and my MIL into a cab and by the time we walked to the port, the luggage had already been checked and we were ready for customs.

I promise, you won't regret DCL or Alaska ;)

  4. I agree with everyone else. I insist my husband wears his suit on formal night and dress pants/shirts every other night and I'll wear a dress every night because it's the only time I can get him to dress up and take nice pictures :) I will not allow him to wear jeans to dinner (ordinarily, I don't care what he wears, but on the ship, I make the rules hehe) But, if you don't want to get dressed up, no one is going to stop you unless you are in Remy or Palo. And you wouldn't feel out of place either way.

  5. You can look at it one of two ways:

    1) If you've already paid your tip, as a waiter you don't need to try very hard to keep them happy.

    2) You don't have a tip yet, so these are the people you need to step up your game for to insure you get the best possible tip.

Even if there was a list, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. It could have been any number of things including people who are celebrating.

  6. "Thats why right there. Since there were 2 different pics, the facial rec program associated 2 different sets of people with 2 different rooms. For what ever the reason, when we were on the Fantasy in March, we kept getting another families pics with ours. And we got 3 different stories why. It almost took and act of Mickey to correct.

If they had 1 photo taken with everyone, and use only 1 card, I think things would have worked differently. Which is what I was implying. It may work and it may not. I honestly don't know."

We just got back from Alaska in June. We had three rooms, with 2 adults in each room. We took the embarkation picture as a group, so by facial recognition, all the pictures were on my KTTW. We bought the CD, but somehow we came to find out that only the pictures of the people from our room would be on the CD. They said that the pictures of my husband and I would be on there and any group pictures that we were in would also be on there. But that left out all the pictures of the other two couples (Brother in law/wife and Mother/Father in law). If we wanted the pictures of them as well, we were going to have to buy a CD for each room and we weren't going to pay $750 for 3 disks. We opted for a package of printed photos (5 for each couple and 5 group pictures), which we scanned and shared when we got home. In the grand scheme of things, we didn't want most of the pictures, so not getting the disk turned out to not be a big deal.

Pricing as of June-2013 is as follows:

    6x8 - $14.95

    8x10 - $19.95

    CD - $249.99

    Package of 10 8x10's - $149.99

    Package of 20 8x10's - $249.99
