I had the DISpleasure of booking a ship excursion called Snorkel beneath the Pitons that stopped at this beach. We received 20% back after the terrible tour. The beach on the resort side is very nice. The lounge chairs are wonderful, but not available to anyone but resort guests. The rest of the chairs are shoved over to the side, on a rocky space. There are so many boats coming in and out of the beach area here that the water is muddy and murky. We had a terrible snorkeling experience. I would never return here as it was not worth the time or expense.

Medium rare, as per the general guidelines.
BUT, back in the kitchen, what the cook considers medium rare can be variable.
Often, where I live, I have to order rare to get medium rare. At least I can send it back for a little more heat if I have to.
Gripe: the wait staff bring my steak to me and demanding I cut it open right away to see if it is cooked the way I want it. Do I want all the juice to run out of a steak hot from the grill? No.
Yes, we often experience the same thing. I also hate cutting into a steak right away.

We enjoy cruising because it is so much easier than a land based vacation. We just did a land vacation in March, and while we have a great time, we were constantly on the go. I get a little grief from some of the guys I work with as does my wife. I just tell them, I don't owe anything on my cars, my home is almost paid off, and we had our kids young, they are now grown and on their own and our time is just that, OUR TIME. I have too many friends that say they can't afford to cruise, but these are also the same people that have to have a new car, or need all the newest fashions. I have one sister in law that travels a lot and can fully understand why we go as often as we do. Then there is the other sister in law that sees vacationing as a waste of money. We just don't wanna be those peolle that said we always wanted to do_____. I can't believe that anybody ever died saying " I had too much fun in my life"

I am seeing that you are going on the Monarch this summer - I love that ship - she used to sail from So-Cal to Ensenada when she was in CA --miss the 3 and 4 day sailings on her - Corkey
I need to change my signature, as we actually had to cancel that cruise! The dates did not line up!

We are Dinks too - altho' i am now retired, and I still get a monthly $$...love love love to cruise and relatives and some friends just don't understand - like I am showing off - don't get that part but that's fine! I am happy and I don't care what they think!! ha!ha! When I was working, no one asked me where I was going on my vacation cuz they knew the answer...when I went on my 2nd cruise, they said AGAIN? then the 20th, the 30th, so on and so on...as a lot of you have said, thank goodness for CC and all my cruise friends whom I can talk Cruise Talk with..........Corkey
Yes, thank goodness for my cc friends as well. Being that we are only in our late 20's, it is hard to find cruise friends our age, but we love our retired cruise friends!

Ohhhhhhhh! Thanks Eithne, you've been all kinds of help to me today!
Guess that makes me a SITK-BIC - single income, two kids-both in college;)
I love being a DINK!

Sorry, I haven't read the entire thread yet, but ... what is a DINK?
Double income, no kids.

I relax, which is something I NEVER do at home. DH will often ask me over and over again if I am okay or if I am sick, because he is not used to seeing me relaxed! That is about the only way I am different on a cruise versus at home.

A hot bowl of ramen noodles sounds about right.
From cruise fare to Ramen? That is just wrong!!! :-)

We are retired and have the time and the means to go. We saved our $$ when we worked and build up a nice nest egg. A few years back my husband was very ill and we could not travel. Now he is better we are making up for lost time. You have to go while you can! You never know when life will take a turn or you'll get too frail and you won't be able to travel.
That said, we don't tell our siblings we're going on another cruise. We tell the kids, but they are genuinely happy to see us enjoying our lives.
We count our blessings every single day. Each day is a gift.
I totally get the telling people who are genuinely happy. It amazes me how many are not capable of genuine happiness for others.

Congratulations EithneMay! I love hearing positive stories like yours! Being debt free is such a fantastic place to be. Enjoy the blessing of your surplus...out on the open sea :D
Thank you so much! We are more than thrilled at the place we have reached in our lives.

We have twice booked this tour through the ship. it was fun and not any more expensive than booking with the company on our own. The groups are not too large. If you want more than just the rays, then I also recommend Eli's tours.

On the Kindle I found a free book that was perfect for vacation. It was called The Parrot Talks in Chocolate. Fun read!

DH and I just tripled our income with a new job and a major promotion. We will likely be taking two major vacations a year, plus weekend get-sways. We are DINKS, are almost completely debt free (house will be paid off by April of next year!!), and each have lots of vacation time. I am mandated to take 4 weeks a year, DH has 5 weeks. I don't care what people say, we enjoy cruising and we have to spend our surplus somehow! It is not anyone else's business how or why we do it!
