  1. I am sorry that you did not enjoy Samba on the Allure. I have not tried it there, but I ate multiple times at Samba on the Radiance and enjoyed it each time.

It is true that some of the meats are better than others. I stick to the filet mignon and the lamb. The sausage is good, too, but I would rather fill up on the other two.

Radiance's Samba, and every land-based churrascaria that I have been to in the U.S., has a salad bar set up for salads and appetizers. I liked them.

It is a shame that Allure has restricted FNDR to just two restaurants. That would not make me happy.

I agree about the meat at Samba (I also went while on Radiance). If I go again, I’ll wait for the lamb and filet. :)

  2. Just recently sailed on the Radiance. The Concierge in the Concierge Lounge was beyond poor. She wasn't there most of the time during her posted hrs. Even made an appt to see her, and she never showed up even though we confirmed the appointment time. After waiting 40 min beyond appt time, we called Guest Relations who contacted her. She appeared 15 min later not at all happy. In fact she was quite rude telling us Guest Relations could handle the matter although it was her job. Other folks were also having problems with her & going to the point of reporting her.

We were on Radiance transpacific & didn't see her once in the concierge lounge. After several days of a huge crowd piling into the DL, she did a bit of "trolling" so we did meet her there...and remained in the DL! Katya was excellent! So glad to hear she'll be moving into the CL!

  3. That was a good and professional letter directly addressing your complaints. What were you expecting?

Sounded like a great response to me! When I complain (and it's rarely) I'm doing it because I want my favorite cruise line to be aware so that they can correct the problem. That means better cruises for everyone in the future! I've been enjoying drink prices over the past few years that are consistent with our local watering hole so I'm not surprised that they've increased.

So, with that in mind, they sent the letter to the person who can make a direct & positive change so..had it been a response to me, my goal would have been met. :)

  5. I don't think I've heard two stories that are the same...even from news stories. Nobody on here knows what has happened except that a small child and his family are suffering. The difference between 5 minutes and 10 minutes under water can mean a World of difference so let's not write off this child.

A lot of speculation and blame-casting isn't helping anything or anyone.

I'm hoping for an official update...I hope we get one because I don't know if I'll stop worrying and wondering and praying for the child and his family! So, if anyone finds a story & can post the link, I sure would appreciate it.

  6. By the way...there were only two temperature settings...71.6 (which we feel quite sure was higher) and 66.6 so we opted for 66.6. If we unlocked our balcony door, the A/C shut off but stayed at 66.6 (displayed on the thermostat) when we closed it. Also, I had just been given a stack of business cards the day before we left for London & had shoved them in a zippered part of my purse so we used those in the room's (occupied) card slot and it worked fine. We just left it in there the entire cruise..we just turned off all of the lights before we left the room.

  7. No flames here. I need a cool room for sleeping too (meaning 68 or less).

I am dreading my Quantum cruise next week if it is going to be too warm in the cabin at night.

Donna - I haven't managed to get through all of the posts yet so I might be repeating but our room was three to four degrees higher than the thermostat said. We called maintenance and I asked if they could make it so we could turn the temp down during the evening. The nice lady told me that they could reset the thermostat to 66.6 but it had to stay that way all of the time. Said not to touch the controls ever or it would reset back to 71.6. So we said okay and put a sign on it saying, "please do not adjust this thermostat" and we slept so well all night long for six of the eight days!

  8. Has anyone tried just walking up to a free restaurant without a dinner reservation? If they did, where they able to get seated and how long was the wait? On Oasis there are monitors that tell you how busy the various restaurants are. Is there something like that on Quantum?

Hope all on board are enjoying their cruise. Thanks for being so free with your time and answering our plethora of questions! :)

We have walked up early to our reserved dining rooms and been seated immediately. Went to Coastal Kitchen last night and it was the best meal on the ship so far!

Solarium pools and hot tubs are 16 and up only. People still hogging chairs and cabanas with towels and books and leaving for hours.

I do miss VCL but love Two70!

Music Hall evening bands are FUN! Bartenders and servers awesome!

  9. These past few days have been really full! I'm not sure how many photos I'll be able to upload because the super-high speed internet that we were supposed to enjoy will not he available for this cruise. The passengers for this cruise are basically beta testing the new class ship.

The minor glitches have not diminished the cruise significantly for us. Mainly because it is so different and really is beautiful and marvelous! Royal Caribbean wanted to totally break out of the box and have been successful at that with the Quantum Class ship. Currently (and most definitely never in the past) is there a commercial cruise ship in the water with the type and scale of technology & design that this ship has. The straight lines and, for lack of a better word, boxy environments are completely non-existent!

The Solarium was a place considered visually striking on other class ships. The Solarium on Quantum makes many other ships' Solarium spaces "cute" in comparison with terraced pools and hot tubs with waterfalls. Located on the furthest forward area on the ship, you can see the ocean sprawling before you!

The Two70 lounge is a place you could stay all day. It's located aft on the ship with soaring, ceiling to floor windows so you can see the ocean and from time to time projection screens are lowered and can create the impression of a 270 degree stage with a bluesy/jazzy band playing and numerous other visions. We got a demonstration of the huge robotic arms with projection screens. These are mounted on a massive seven ton, metal beam which can be raised and lowered as needed for whatever application is required. The robotic screens are an integral participant in the the show "Starwater", which you should not miss! We got there super early and were on the third row down front. The theme is the different types and stages of love and during one portion of the show, the robotic screens have a dependent attachment to a nymph-like dancer in an interpretation of the song "Ain't No a Sunshine When She's Gone". Personally, it's one of my favorite parts but it could be because that portion of the show is simple. What I mean is that the rest of it is almost like a three ring circus, in that there is so much going on that you're looking everywhere attempting to see everything and that could be due to our seats being so close. It's definitely not kitschy; very well interpreted, choreographed and executed! The singers and dancers are phenomenal! Their athleticism is as impressive as their talent.

I can't adequately describe the other public spaces. It's truly as if you're walking in a city with a big plaza and side streets. It's very open and airy to the next deck. Shops (Michael Kors, Bvlgari, etc), and restaurants (Jamie Oliver's, Sorrentos, Michael's pub, etc.) with areas to sit comfortably. Next deck up are the specialty restaurants and the Schooner Lounge (we never found the name anywhere but it's the Schooner Lounge to Royal cruisers). a two story music hall and theater just down a side street.

The big artwork is in place but we see workers installing more here and there. Definitely wires still being pulled and other assorted "maintenance" work. The interactive television comes and goes as far as being able to check your account and reservations come and go so it's a crap shoot whether the restaurant will have your reservation when you show up. Too bad for some of those customers whose reservations were lost for Wonderland, which has no openings (standby only) for the entire week. We aren't crazy about the menu so we didn't originally reserve but we got our names on standby just to do the Earth, Sea, Fire & Ice experience. We won't be disappointed if we don't get in.

So far, we've eaten dinners at American Icon Grill, Chops, Silk, Chic, The Grande. They staff is still working on the menus...things that don't fly well will be replaced with something else. After they have that figured out, the menus will stay the same all week.

The food is hit or miss:

*Chops - my Forrest mushroom soup was great! Pan roasted scallops were good. Entrees: I was looking forward to the Parmesan Encrusted Veal Chop, which was on the menu but they didn't have it. So, I ordered the braised beef short ribs...just okay. Hugo's 9 oz. filet was wonderful.

*Silk - a couple of the appetizers were really good; others not so much ( they served them all on the night we went...maybe trying them out). I asked if the Asian Duck was crispy and was told that it was. It was not crispy and the hoisin flavor overpowered it. Hugo had Hibachi Steak that he said was terrific.

*Chic - I had some wonderful grilled shrimp appetizer and crispy crusted roasted chicken. Hugo had beef carpaccio which he said said was awful. His entree was the roasted beef rib eye which was excellent.

*American Icon Grill - appetizers: buffalo chicken Mac and cheese (blah). Louisiana chicken wings - great. I had pistachio encrusted salmon with mushrooms. One of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. Hugo had roasted flank steak which he said was really good.

Other meals we had in American Icon Grill were very good.

    Lunch:

270 Cafe has great salads and sandwiches.

    Seaplex Doghouse was just okay

American Icon Grill - very good menu & food

Windjammer Marketplace has had very good food overall.

  10. Hi

I'm sailing her in April and can't wait!!!! 👍 please can someone kindly answer a few questions for me?....

    1. Do the menus change every day for Dynamic Dining? Reason I ask is because I have opted for the Grande restaurant for several nights.

    2. Is there a Starbucks onboard? (I'm guessing not as I haven't seen any mention of it...it's just that I loved this on Oasis class!.

    3. Is there a champagne bar?

    4. Do you reserve your time on the North Star? (Apologies if I have missed info on this on this thread)

    5. Is the solarium adults only?

    6. Is anyone in a Family Junior Suite? Do you have any pics? If not, please can you describe it?

Thanks in advance! and thanks for all the reports so far! 👍

Menus stay the same but there have been some variations from what is posted on the internet. Could possibly be just for this sailing, though.

Yes, there is a Starbucks located in La Patisserie

There is a Vintages where they serve champagne & wine and also have wine kiosks where you can try a taste, half glass or full glass of your choice.

I believe you would normally reserve for NorthStar but for this sailing, you just stand in line for it.

Didn't notice if the Solarium is adults only.

Were in a superior balcony so don't know.

    Hope this helps! 😊

  11. Has anyone gotten their temperature in their rooms lower than 71 degrees or unlocked? Another site that people are posting on has stated that the thermostats says "locked" and won't go lower than 71 degrees. I hope they unlocked the thermostats!

Ours did briefly yesterday but got down to 66 degrees & as soon as we touched the controls, it locked at 71.6 again. Been sleeping (on & off) with the balcony door open and listening to a balcony separator banging all night.

Otherwise, loving this cruise (as all others)! 😊

  12. Agreed, personal safety is paramount but then a helicopter is much quicker and easier for the patient if in reach.:D

We are taking the southern route anyway. There will be no delay in reaching New Jersey. I haven't read all prior posts but I believe the captain said that someone had surgery and will be evacuated. Could be appendix for all we know but we expect to be in Azores at noon ships time.

  13. Thanks to everyone for all the information and pictures. I can't wait to board.

One question about all the dining venues. We made all our reservations ahead of time. When we arrive at the dining venue at our reservation time, will we have to wait to be seated? Also, will we get a table to ourselves or will we have to share a table?

    Thanks.

You may have to wait. Just as with any restaurant where you make reservations..the table still needs to be available. If service or diners are particularly slow, there may be a slight wait.
