  1. I cancelled the cruise because my 3-year-old son would not be allowed off the boat or in child care, unless we were in a bubble excursion.  There was not guaranteed to be a bubble excursion at each port so we cancelled (they let us cancel as it was within 24 hours of booking). Now that Omicron spiked, I suppose it's a good thing.  Someday we will cruise 🙂

  2. I am looking at Royal Caribbean or Carnival for a Southern Caribbean cruise early next year.  We are a family of six and would need either connecting rooms or suites.  However, even though I understand the symbols on the website (the little triangle on Carnival or stars on Royal Caribbean), I am STRUGGLING to actually find two rooms near one another. Royal Caribbean has the choice to select connecting rooms, but I don't see one for Carnival.

***I am trying to avoid balconies because my I have a 3-year-old who is very energetic.

Am I missing the ability to choose for Carnival? Is there an easier way to do this?  Is there any other advice for a large family booking that you would have?   Are there large family suites that I'm missing?

  3. I've been on Atkins since Nov of this year. I found out I was pregnant, had morning sickness and packed on 8 lbs in four weeks. I had a horrible gain with my first pregnancy (46 lbs) while also being terribly sick.

This time I kept my carbs between 40-100 grams and had a much better Pregnancy. I Only gained 22 lbs and at less than six weeks postpartum have taken most of that off... Now to lose the next 35 from prior pregnancy and honeymoon weight!!!

  4. my son is allergic to dairy! Since I'm breastfeeding exclusively, my carbs need to be higher. I have added in berries and whole grains 3 times a week. I'm losing about a pound a week, with a spike in weight when I added the grains back in! I'm down to 186.8 - 21 lbs since delivery six weeks ago.

SFS- I miss the SOS shake so much!!! I can't gave cream cheese, creamer or whey... And no

! Tons of olive and coconut oil, meat, eggs and produce instead!!

  5. Jean- Yellowstone is amazing! Enjoy the family, and that weight will come right off!!

Melody- I love Disney. The only time I gained weight there was my ten day honeymoon. It rained the whole time so all we did was eat and drink! Hope you has a blast with your family. We are going in October! I will be wearing a baby and pushing a toddler, so hopefully I don't gain too much :)

Lisa- I would love to do a triathlon! You rock

SEago- I love coconut oil and I adore forums at that site too :). Very supportive especially during my pregnancy!

I had my baby May 15th. He was 8 lbs even and 20.5". I was 207.8 after my water broke and currently weigh 188.6. I've been low carbing (not do low I'm in ketosis). Since the day I left the hospital. I fell off the wagon one time and that was the day I delivered (I was starving!)

Baby is beautiful, packing on weight and nurses like a champion!!!

  6. Well, you had me curious so I looked it up on livestrong.com and they said it is about 278 calories, which I find surprising. I would not have guessed that much although my soreness would indicate that amount for sure :D

Seems like a more rewarding necessary evil, now!

  7. Does anyone have any advice for low carb alcoholic beverages on cruises?

I found Baja Bob's mixers and I am so intrigued. If I got a premium package, however, I feel like it would be an inconvenience to ask the bar tender for a shot to make these on my own.

  8. Look at how good all of you are at gardening... My poor yard is so deprived. I puff up with painful sausage fingers the second I spend much time in any heat. Give me a big pitcher of water and some AC until I stop being pregnant!!!

I wonder how many calories weeding burns, Andrea? ;)

  9. Sorry to pop in, I've been searching low carb and cruising and this thread is one that popped up. I'm pregnant, due in 16 days and looking to find a place where I can discuss weight loss once baby is here... Especially since I will be excitedly planning our very delayed anniversary cruise.

Very encouraged by your results and hope to learn more. Is this a mix of all diets or just WW? I did WW for breastfeeding mamas after my first son, and am debating going back or simply calorie tracking on spark people!

I sure wish I could see 315 by tomr. But that is okay. Its .2lbs down from last week's lowest weight of 315.8. My Dr. actually looked at me and said, "Weigh tomr. and then don't look at the scale again until 3 months is up." Hmmmmmmmm, I see his point.......but I also don't like it. I guess weighing everyday is obsessive to some people and the thinking is you should think about be healthy and not about the number. But I'm on the other team that says, the number keeps me in a healthy frame of mind. When I see it going up.......I know I have to check what I'm doing or not doing.

BK: Oatmeal.........I'll work on finding some quickie alternatives this weekend.

S: almonds or cheese stick, probably a diet soda to push me through.

L: Bought some turkey sliced meat (I was going to get the low sodium, but unfortunately when i picked up the package the first thing I say was like that red streak of like ligament or whatever that is..........it killed it for me, the is why I won't eat chicken on a bone.....among other reasons). I'm gonna take a few slices and cut up some tomatoes on top and the put some light mayo and mustard on top........breadless sandwich really. I'm gonna eat the corn and salad I had from yesterday (I'll explain later)

S: Atkins bar or Glucerna drink maybe.......it says its for Diabetics and looked like the same kind of nutrition as the Atkins shakes. I will check into more before I drink it though.

D: I was thinking about Turkey breast and then making some kind of spinach "dip" like stuff to put over or under the turkey.........got any ideas........I'm sure I can google it.

W: Gym for 40 mins. It was so hard on the ellpt. yesterday........I really had to push myself to make it. I was not motivated yesterday, but I did it. Since I will be working Friday night, I will have to make up exercise for that too.

Okay, so yesterday I got so icky feeling in the middle of the afternoon before lunch. I don't know what it was.......I felt sick to my stomach, icky, bleh. It happened all of a sudden. I thought maybe I was overly hungry and so I went to get my lunch, I took a bite of my hot dog and........thought I would........yep. Number one........I think they had been frozen too long and were icky and I was just repulsed by them. I knew I needed to eat b/c I could feel hunger pains inbetween the icky. So, I went to our bookstore to see what I could dig up. They actually had some Pork rinds (only in a rural area college bookstore, lol), they had the carb bars too. I had read that our campus starbucks has new nonfat smoothies with real fruit and no syrup too. So, knowing that my carb intake would go up, I ordered the 12oz cup, plus the pork rinds and later the carb bar before the workout. Was it the best, no. Was it better than me just giving in and grabbing the quick fixes like pasta bowls and ramen.......YES!

I did stick with the shrimp and broccoli when I got home and I had planned for a glass of milk and a small amount of whipped cream. I still ended up had to fork dips into the cin. rolls..........but that's better than the idea I had to eat a whole one, so I call it even.

Tomr. is going to super hard for me. I may not post.......depends. We have this dedication for a new building and then we have a walkthrough and candlelight ceremony for our graduating class that night.

We won't have time to take lunch breaks as usual b/c it will be in the middle of our dedication. We were instructed to eat from the vending we have for the dedication............hot dog stand and ice cream. I will there from the time I get to work and it will be like 80 something, so its not like I can store something.......even a carb bar would melt out there. Plus nowhere to store it. I guess I can eat a bunless hot dog and I hope they will have some fruit for a side......maybe I can bring my own apple or something. We will see. Then I will have to eat dinner on campus b/c we will have to stay for the evening event. Not much is open b/c of most of the students going home. We have Papa Johns and subway.........

    Good Choices.

I've only read a few pages back, but I low carb as well. Stay away from Glucerna- if you check the ingredients it has corn maltodextrin which is a sweetener.

Are you doing Atkins? It seems like you struggle with a lot of cravings. I'm pregnant and live with my husband and toddler who are not on a low carb lifestyle. I currently eat 50-100g of carbs to prevent ketosis since I am pregnant, but most of the carbs come from veggies, dairy and cherry tomatoes by the bowlful (pregnant addiction?). I sometimes eat strawberries with whipping cream or make berry/Greek yogurt smoothies.

Have you tried to do a true two week induction? No cheating. It would really help keep your cravings at bay. I'm almost 38 weeks pregnant and I've only gained 19 lbs thanks to low carbing. With my first son, I had gained 46 by this point.

PS I've been eating 2800 calories some days!!! I eat when hungry and stop when full. Best part of Atkins!

  11. I'm actually looking at Doing a sprint in September but am overwhelmed by equipment and the transition points. Any advice?

18 days until my due date and up 19 lbs!!! I remember losing weight at the end- not packing on 4 lbs in less than a week!!!

  12. If this is the second I'm sure the first is keeping you busy.

    You are doing so great.

I had two grands this week and had looked so forward to it and than came down sick. The dh had to watch the little guy a couple hours for me so I could sleep and feel like death would be an improvement. Starting to feel better now.

    You poor thing!

Hope your feeling better Melody!!....Sounds like me last month...ugh!!!

Here comes the weekend!! Are you ready?

I had nothing scheduled to do for the weekend, and kinda liked that.

Well, by noon today...not only are the darling Grand-daughters coming over...but my daughter is coming across town and will be here in the morning too!

You all have a great weekend!!

    Hope you had fun!

Hey guys....what a struggle it has been for me to stay on the Low Carb plan....I do pretty well during the week, but the weekends have been a different story. Over all I am down 7 pounds....So I guess that is a start. I also need get committed to some physical activity... Kinda like the eating....hard to stay on track...If I can just make it for 1 whole week then 1 more, etc..... I'm not giving up !!!! :D

I have one day off a week, and it's not a full day- I normally pick one day where I'm a bit looser (whole grains one meal and maybe dessert) and stick the rest of the week. I also make myself workout the day of the "loose" day. Knowing that I can split a blizzard with DH or have a wheat bun or pasta on Saturday makes it less tempting to give I the rest of the week- I like the wy the scale moves down. However some people do better with complete abstinence from carbs. You know yourself best!

  13. We hosted Easter and other than baking a red velvet cake and providing a baguette- we had zero carb options here. I did shrimp with homemade lowcarber cocktail sauce, then for supper I had ham with lowcarb glaze, bacon fried green beans, a pecan and blue cheese spinach salad with homemade olive oil vinaigrette, stuffed mushrooms. My husband and I had low cab snicker doodles (1 g carb per cookie) while everyone else had red velvet cupcakes. Was able to send the leftover cupcakes to work with my DH yesterday.

I am contracting up a storm and miserably tired. It's our second baby and I feel like a horrible mom lately- too tired to keep up! At 14-15 lbs weight gain with less than six weeks to go!!!

  14. You have already made it past that 5 month big gain, so I belive in you and you will just gain baby this last 9 weeks. Keep up the Great work!

Do you have access to any water exercise. The one time I had some trouble, being in the water was a God send.

I found Celebrity food a little plain. Maybe it was due to the age of the cruisers being older. Yes, they bend over backward to help with any eating plan. The DD got all kind of one of a kind vegin dinners.

I did hit the gym a couple times, but I can't do the gym while cruiseing do to the motion and my stomach:D I just keep draging my fat butt up as many stairs as I can.:

I'm looking forward to staying LC (minus booze) on our cruise then!!! We will exercise at sea too!

LostShaker... The upcoming weeks will be baby weight gain, mostly! It sounds like you have been great about watching what your eating and excersizing too...so your on the right track! :) If your not eating much when your at meals....then that is why you might feel like your grazing, but remember to stay hydrated! - Sometimes we think we are hungry...and we are really thirsty! (My DD is at 9 weeks...she has just started her baby journey! :))

Have a great day Everyone! :D

yes I am not drinking enough, only about 80 oz. it's hard with running to the potty every two minutes!!! I'm 34 weeks now!!! Getting too big and sore to do much besides walk, prenatal yoga and Pilates!!! I have only gained 15 still- just keep hovering here!!! I can only eat small amounts, but constantly!!!!

    Congrats on your Dd!!!!

  15. WOW! You are doing GREAT!. Keeping a handle on your weight while pregnant pays off for the rest of you life. Take it from someone who knew better but, didn't make it happen.

Keep up the great work and don't forget those prenat vit.

31 weeks and I've gained 15. I am so nervous it's going to pile on in the next 9 weeks. I've been so exhausted and it's so much more difficult for me to exercise. I can't eat much at one sitting, but I am constantly hungry!!!

I have a few times. In Feb I kept it going as I did so well and came home 1 pound less than I left two weeks before.

The first thing I did was tell the dinning staff I can't eat bread at all. They understand gluten free so that is how I delt with the third dinning staff I had when he asked when I kept turing bread down.

I was even able to order desert most nights and just took a bite. I did order two main courses and asked them to leave off the "stuff".

I made sure I climbed the stairs both ways when I had dessert. I tried using stairs as much as possible.

It is easy to do Atkins in the Windjammer. I got eggs from the station for omlets. I ordered fried eggs or omletts with meat only.

Nice work! Did you exercise at all? Is celebrity good about "leaving the stuff off"? Are all the dining staff understanding about no bread if it's just my DH and I at a table?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

    Hey Everyone! Happy Wednesday!

So.. yes we had that stomach flu....ugh ... and really...it took me like 2 weeks to get things settled...and I really had to watch what I ate!

But over the weekend...yup... so much better ! :)

Monday back to low carbing it...and I think my energy is starting to find it's way back into my life!

So how is everyone!? It's finally really nice around here for a few more days...maybe winter again by Sunday!:( But! I'm taking advantage and getting out while we can!

What about you?... What did you do for Exercise today?

Low Carb... that's what works for me!

    I'm glad you're feeling better.

IT's gorgeous here in Ohio, and I am sure we'll be back to snow in no time. My son and I went to play in the park and we are going to take a walk when he wakes up. I'm bummed I have to work tonight-- that means I will be dragging tomorrow during prime outside play time!!!!

  16. I do Atkins and am currently pregnant. I had been on OWL when I got pregnant.

I switched to maintenance the day I found out I was pregnant. I was overweight to begin with so my total goal according to my dr is to gain 15-25 lbs. I am 30 weeks and have gained 12- much better than with my first son where I had gained 33 lbs by this point!!!

I love focusing on tons of veggies and lean protein, with dairy and low glycemic fruit. Of course dark chocolate a few times a week! I have exercised 4-5 times a week this whole time and feel great!

I look forward to recipes and support. I have loved SFS' site for years and had no idea she posted on here at one time!!!!

  17. Does anyone have any recommendations about Emerald Beach? It is in a decent area of St. Thomas? I hear it's not very busy, but you can still rent kayaks and snorkel equipment. We're not huge on water sports, mostly beach bums who want to hide from the crowds and enjoy a drink or two-- maybe kayak or snorkel in the afternoon!!
