  1. I've been on 36 Carnival cruises. We've missed a lot of ports over the years on Carnival and on other cruise lines. Safety should always come first and we understand that. This time was different. I've learned o take what Carnival tells me and omits telling me with scepticism because of other instances in which I felt deceived by them. Like any big company, I feel they weigh profit against risk of an unhappy passenger and decide what's greater. That's life. The last bad experience we had was on the Dream. We took our 45th anniversary cruise in August, 2014. Our cabin was warm when we boarded, but it was August. We closed our curtains and went up to Lido for sail away. When we returned to our cabin, it was sweltering. We noticed that the a.c. vent cover had been removed and placed behind the dresser stool. We went to guest services day after day and they couldn't fix the a.c. We couldn't sleep. We had to spend all day in the public areas. Our wonderful cabin steward gave us use of her personal fan or we would have had to sleep in a public area. We finally convinced the rude head of guest services to come to our room. The temperature was 80 degrees at that time. Of course he apologized, but we asked him why they even allowed us into that cabin because they knew of the issue before we boarded - we showed him where the vent cover was stored. He offered a discount off our next cruise. There were no other cabins available. We told him all we wanted was a.c. on this cruise. It never happened. So, please excuse me if I am skeptical of what happened with the Liberty. We have another cruise scheduled with the kids and grandkids this summer on the Dream. We've been on her once since that hot mess of a cruise. As a matter of fact, we've been 5 Carnival cruises since then. I do know about corporations and their choices. One cruise line or another, they all make decisions the same way. I don't trust any of them to be totally truthful. Heck, they even keep their employees in the dark.

  2. The reason would be money. I understand missing ports if something happens after you leave the home port or for weather, etc. If they knew prior, I don't how many people would have gone on a 5 day cruise to Progresso. We've been on 36 Carnival cruises and I know things happen and Carnival isn't always upfront or helpful with explanations.

  3. Just got off the Liberty in Galveston a few minutes ago. If you are leaving on her today, be aware that the bow thrusters aren't working and we weren't"t able to dock in Cozumel. We were told before we left late from Galveston on Monday that there was a propulsion issue. I don't know if Carnival was honest about that issue having been corrected and the bow thruster issue happening in Progresso or not. In any case, this is a heads up for you guys. You might want to ask about the bow thruster issue before you get onboard or you may just find yourselves floating around for a few days.

  4. The message said that they are having technical problems and are unable to cruise at maximum speed. As a result, they will arrive back in Galveston about 2 hours late tomorrow. The will post an update by 9 a.m. tomorrow.

  5. I was on this same cruise with my husband. We really enjoyed it. Freedom has the American Table menu - no tablecloths except for the two formal nights. On those nights, it has the American Feast menus. We had Your Time dining and we really enjoyed the food in the dining room. The food on Lido was not as good as usual. We didn't care for Guys burgers. This was our third cruise trying them and I can say that we prefer the Carnival burgers of old. I know a lot of people like them. Anyway, it was as great cruise overall. We really like the Freedom..:):)

  6. :)We were able to use the steakhouse perk on the cruise on which we turned diamond. Diamond services said to let them know at guest services once onboard and they would let the steakhouse know. Even though we had not yet received the diamond welcome letter, guest services confirmed with diamond services. It was taken care of by guests services. We each received a steakhouse meal for 2. We used the second meal on another cruise. We also each used our diamond stateroom upgrade. We were told you pay for a category 6a ocean view room and choose a balcony stateroom from category 8a to 8k.

  7. The last couple of times I embarked in San Juan, we carried on whatever alcohol we wanted. We purchased it at the duty free shop in the terminal. They informed us that San Juan performs security checks in their terminal - not Carnival. Their security doesn't stop you for alcohol - that would cut into the San Juan merchants' profit. I don't know if it's still the same, but you can check with the duty free folks.

  8. I was on the Freedom cruise last week. I really liked the ship, but Ireally like the Conquest class ships. The decor was fine for me. I've been on many ships including the Magic and the Dream and I liked the Freedom. I found the food overall to be some of the best we've had in the last few years of cruising. The new American Table and Feast menus were good. They included some old favorites and new items as well. Because many of the crew were new and because of the new way meals are handled in the kitchen, the service was slow most nights. We had Your Time dining, but I gather that didn't make a difference in the slowness of service. Overall we had a great cruise. The weather was bad on our last sea day, but it was great the rest of the cruise.:D:D
