  1. Was just on the Sapphire princess in September and was able to have dairy alternative milk everywhere on the ship. The only issue is some locations may not have 1 specific type (tried to ask for oat milk in the MDR but they didn't have it, alternated to soy).

Could not locate the dairy alternative milk at the buffet for self service but the buffet waitstaff were able to bring some really quickly when politely requested.

The OceanReady App if you order coffee through it gives option to substitute the milk to an alternative of choice.

I finally have the answer for you. Crab Shack is offered twice, on each of the two sea days of the Alaska cruises (the first and last full days) in the Savoy Dining Room from noon to 1:30pm. The cost is $29.

Thank you so much for the info! May you always have calm seas and full glasses of wine!

  3. Thank you so much for taking the time to blog your adventure in Alaska!

If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to advise when the crab shack luncheons occurs on your Southbound leg? Didn't see it listed in the patters uploaded on the first leg. Trying to allocate the stomach space accordingly when we go. 😄

  4. We did the Royal in Alaska this year over the summer. It's a beautiful ship. A bit wonky trying to get to one of the main dining rooms.

I would, for myself at least, suggest a smaller ship. The Royal didn't seem to get as close to the glaciers as other cruises we've done in Alaska on smaller ships.

It was a great cruise either way.

  5. Now you've got me wondering. I'm not satisfied with Wikipedia's answer as they say the only part of China that actually uses the word "congee" is Guangdong, but Guangdong generally speaks Cantonese and later on in the Wiki article, it says that it's called "juk" in Cantonese. Congee sounds like an English pronunciation of a Chinese word anyways.

In any case, congee and miso soup sound like something I'm going to be looking for on my Alaskan cruise. Thanks for the suggestion.

Congee is the English word for “Juk” in Cantonese.

It’s great! You can add almost anything to it, and have it really complicated or super simple.

Most cruise lines I’ve noticed have just plain congee out. But if you can find soy sauce or some green onions to add to it. [emoji1362]

  6. We bring an empty liter bottle and empty smaller bottle and fill them in the buffet (using a glass to transfer) or fill them from the cabin's bathroom sink tap.

You can ask your cabin steward to bring a pitcher of ice water.

You can contact the Access dept a month or so ahead of time with a Drs note and might get permission to bring some aboard.

How is the sodium level of the tapwater on the ship? The medication in question is a salt, so that might affect things negatively.

I think we will be contacting the Access Dept. no matter what, but we'll keep these options in mind, thank you!

  7. Hello! We're travelling on the Escape in late December, and one of our party has a medication that requires drinking a large amount of water pretty consistently (3 litres daily). We were planning on flying into Miami from Vancouver and purchasing a flat of water from one of the grocery stores to bring on-board, but recently found out that's no longer allowed.

Is this something we could contact accessibility about? Are there other options that might be simpler? If there are refillable water bottle stations on ship, that would be manageable as well.

    Thank you!

  8. Sotermarler, I think it may be the time you're calling the 1-800 number at for NCL. We live in the PNW and have a PCC based out of Miami that we work with. But we have found if we call NCL after dinner we get the Arizona office fielding our calls.

We've been assigned new PCCs quite a few times now with our previous ones moving on to new opportunities. Generally we can get most of our queries done ourselves through the website or just a general rep at NCL is able to answer most of our questions.

    Hope this helps!

  9. We did not make it into the parrot cages (oops. "wildlife habitats.") The people in front of us managed to stir the parrots in a frenzy. If you have ever been to the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disney, imagine the part where the gods are angry and the birds go into a frenzy. Only it's not audio animatronic. There's no happy singing finale. Oh, and the birdies have developed a taste for human flesh.

It was a crazed whirlwind of canary yellow, toucan green, and shrieking. In short, it was great.

I wish cruise critic had likes and upvotes just for these kind of posts!!

    Thanks for the laugh.

  10. We just booked through shoreexcursioneer today for our upcoming cruise.

For return to port do we get a choice of when to return or is there a set time?

    Thanks in advance. [emoji847]
