  1. I don't care for the new site either; HOWEVER, if you click on the amount for partial payment and use the up/down arrow it will suddenly not be grayed out any longer. You can then type in the amount you wish to pay. I've done it and others have managed to make partial payments without a huge issue.

Thanks for your input, that actually did work. HOWEVER, that is a BUG, not a feature. Fix it Carnival.

  2. Sub-titled New Carnival website blows and so does customer support

So tried to make a partial payment o a 2019 cruise this morning. The option for partial payment still exists but is grayed out. I tried several end-around and also tried with hubby's cruise manager. Apparently Carnival would be happy to let me pay $2800 for a 2019 cruise but not a penny less.

I tried the support phone number 4 times. I was sent down a rabbit hole twice and disconnectEd twice more. Of course there is NO email support available at all.

Okay, fine Carnival. I guess we'll just keep our money till final payment date late next year instead of giving you use of it.

Anyone else experience this with the new website?

  3. Any balcony will be wonderful in Alaska. I know this is the Carnival board, but I would consider choosing another line with one-way itineraries including Glacier Bay rather than doing the Seattle loop with Carnival. Glacier Bay National Park limits cruise ship entry to two per day, and Princess and HAL have almost all the passes locked up. Also, on the one-way itinerary you start either from Seward/Whitter AK and sail to Vancouver or the reverse and are in the Inside Passage the entire trip, while round trip sailings out of Seattle require a sea day coming and going. No matter what you choose, you will love Alaska.

  4. Are you planning on doing the Brewery Tour? Can you find out when it is offered and when you can sign up for it?

    Thanks

    Enjoying your pictures

On our Valentine's Day cruise, the brewery tour was offered twice a day on seadays. You sign up with the bartenders at the Red Frog Pub. I believe the tour was $25/pp and included lots of tastings, a Red Frog pint and a certificate. We really enjoyed it!

  5. I was also on this sailing and agree with much the OP said. It's true that Lido was a bit crowded in the morning, but we found the Taste Bar very convenient and well set up as an alternative. Oatmeal, grits, cold cereals, eggs, bacon, ham, sausages, toast, pastries and breakfast drinks. It was never busy there.

The Havana area is the best thing ever. For those of you hoping to try food in the Havana bar, it is no longer served. I guess there wasn't enough demand. However, the Taste Bar and the Red Frog Pub are just minutes away.

Loved the brewery tour, well worth the money.

The steakhouse was great but JiJi's Asian Kitchen was even better, make reservations for both in ADVANCE. Many disappointed would-be dinners on our cruise.

  6. Anyone who has recently sailed the Victory and had delayed boarding, did you notice if there were any wedding parties and if so, were they also delayed?

My daughter is getting married on the Victory on April 21, and with such a short window for her non-sailing guests, I'm really hoping the wedding party can get on board in time.

  7. Loved Shrine of St Theresa and the Jenson-Olson Arborterum. I love Alaska Brewing company, but visiting the brewery is pretty much a snooze. No real tour, just a tasting room/gift shop. You can look into the brewery through glass. Mendenhall is wonderful, try to schedule time to take the easy 1/2 mile walk to Nugget Falls. During the salmon run you can walk the Steep Creek boardwalks there and if you are lucky, may see bears. I'm attaching a link to my 2016 Juneau/Lynn Canal album, maybe it will help you choose.

  9. I know flying from the east coast to Vancouver is extremely expensive. Much more then the cruise itself.

    Plus you need passports

when i do alaska it will be in an aft balcony-- one across the back of the ship

so I can see both sides.

You can fly round-trip Seattle and depart Vancouver by taking the Quick

Shuttle (about 4 hours, appx. $60/pp) or Amtrak (about the same amount of time, may be cheaper) and you will most likely still save money over taking an open jaw flight. Going to Glacier Bay is absolutely worth it. If you won't consider another cruise line, then the Vancouver-Seattle itinerary is the the one I recommend.

  10. I'm not trying to debate your point as I have heard that very same thing - that smokers gamble more. But how is it that Celebrity gets away with having their casinos entirely smoke free and seem to be doing well? One used to be able to argue that their rates were higher to make up for any potential loss, but it seems that Carnival's pricing lately has been pretty close to theirs in many cases.

I am truly curious if anyone knows the real answer because I don't.

Speaking strictly for myself, as a non-smoker for the past 20 years, I love to gamble but can't tolerate the casino area for long stretches due to the smoke stench. If the casino was smoke-free, this non-smoker would be donating in the casino a lot more!

I'm not advocating a non-smoking ship but I do wish that all smoking was outdoors.

  11. You should check out the Alaska forum in the Ports of Call section of this website. There is a wealth of information there of all kinds, from the best routes to the best shore excursions.

Alaska is the most wonderous place I have ever experienced. We did a land vacation in the Kenai Pennisula followed by a southbound on the Coral Princess in 2012, and loved it so much we have returned twice. In 2013 we spent three weeks on a circuit from Anchorage to Denali, Fairbanks, down the Richardon to Valdez, across Prince William Sound on the ferry to Whittier, then on to Kenai sites like Homer and Seward.

In 2015 we used the Alaskan Marine Highway to visit more places in the southeast than we had been able to visit on our Princess cruise. I especially loved Haines, and would urge anyone porting in Skagway to consider an excursion that takes you there. While I enjoyed the White Pass rail and Chilkoot van tour of the Yukon in Skagway, the town didn't offer nearly as much as Haines does. Check out the Mules tour from Skagway (fast ferry to Haines). It was an awesome excursion!
