  1. I was on the May 6 breakaway. Yes at a port in Greece and in Livorno, beer and wine only. And they would not refund you for the premium plus. They were also out of many premium spirits at many bars. Also closed the pool bar at 7pm every night! It was truly disappointing and the communication was very poor. They left it to the staff to deal with upset passengers.

if you didn’t have a drink package, you couldn’t even buy a soda pop. If you had a drink package, you could get beer or wine, but no spirits.

Either hotel would be a good choice IMO. Both are located in the same vicinity. It comes down to small details. The Albergo del Senato is a three star hotel and its charm for me lies in the fact that it is a "one off" hotel with a very traditional, Italian style -- e.g., do not expect a contemporary decor (except in the bathrooms which have a certain Italian flair) but rather things like an oriental runner up the stairs, silk wall coverings and heavy curtains in the rooms, etc. The AdS also has superior views (of the Pantheon and the piazza in front of it) from many of its rooms.

The Iconic is part of a chain, is newer, and will have a more contemporary look and feel to the rooms. Some prefer this. It may also be a good choice if you have points to use or status with Marriott to get upgrades. I can't be much more definitive as I haven't stayed there.

Both hotels have rooftop terraces/bars. The Iconic has a Michelin-starred restaurant, but as I prefer to go out for dinner at night, it would not make much of a difference to me. There are many excellent restaurants in the vicinity, although perhaps not Michelin quality (however you do get more of a sense of being in Rome rather than cocooned in a hotel).

Thank you!!! This will help us choose.

The location's not fantastic, but it's not terrible either.  It's about a 25-30 minute walk to the Pantheon (my "ground zero" in central Rome). Not too far from Barberini where there are some good restaurants for dinner, including one of my favorites, Colline Emiliane.

Looking for a hotel for 3 night pre cruise and 2 nights post in Rome. I’ve narrowed it based on reading through posts here to either the Alberto de Senato or the Iconic Pantheon. Cruise mom, I’d love to hear your thoughts on 1 vs the other or any other recommendations.

Celebrity Infinity, about 8 years ago.  Second night of the cruise, smooth sailing all day with progressive chop building as the day wears on.  By evening we are in pretty solid rolling waves.  It's dinner time and we keep pushing it back and pushing it back hoping for the ship to settle down, but no luck.  My wife is a lightweight (and I'm unaffected) so around 8pm I go to the lido to get her some broth and crackers.  Hop in the elevator alone.  After a few floors the doors to the elevator open to take on more passengers.  One little old lady standing there outside the MDR, wearing her little old lady best.  This lady could have passed for my grandma.  Just as the doors open the ship lurches, and the lady puts her finger over her mouth as if she's holding it in.  There are sickness bags hanging in the elevator.  I instinctively pull one out, snap it open, and hand it to the lady. The lady leans forward vomits into the bag, then pulls back and looks at me in horror.  The entire sequence lasts about ten seconds, at which point the elevator dings, the doors close, the lady stays standing outside the MDR, and I proceed on my way to the Lido to get my wife some soup... now holding a warm bag of vomit.

This gets a trophy and a laugh

I've searched and come up with nothing, although I am sure this was a topic in the past.  Isn't there a bag that folks have used for their $$, phones, IDs and cruise cards that locks to their chair, enabling enjoying the water without someone sitting out to watch the "stuff"?? I see a Vaultz money bag with lock on Amazon for $26 and wonder if that's it or close to it?

    Thanks,

    Linda

We use Kyss bags! They are great! They have a web site.

I definitely agree about better mid-range shopping.  On the older ships you could always find something to buy.  They have one shop selling perfume, needed toiletries, some clothes but limited for those who want to browse and maybe buy something.

I do not miss the crowded table sales but did enjoy getting to make some purchases.

We do not stop in the expensive stores anymore even to look(last time we went in my husband was willing to buy me an expensive John Hardy bracelet from a very attractive friendly salesperson with a good story). At this time I hardly wear what I have in good jewelry and know he was going to overpay.

It was a very nice gesture, hubby.

We will be on the Edge this Sunday and cannot wait to enjoy her again.

    Have a great cruise!!

If you are in a Suite, then you can ask if they have space available.

We were able to dine in Blu any nights that we chose,  we did speak to the Maitre’d prior. And he did let us know that any night we wanted to go we were welcome. They were only 1000 on our sailing out of a potential almost 3000 so there was plenty of room.

Hi,  can you tell me how they handled the need for a covid test one day before flights back to the U.S. ?  The web site says there will be an independent company doing tests for $99 a person at the port but I wondered about lines.  Did you do that or is the internet good enough that you can do a monitored self test?  Thank you.  Glad you loved the ship and food.  Makes me look forward to the experience.

I’m sorry we didn’t have to travel internationally home we just traveled back to Massachusetts so we didn’t need a post cruise covet desk. Those honor ship going back to the UK and Canada we’re having them done in the port upon disembarkation and they didn’t have to pay for them.I’m sorry we didn’t have to travel internationally home we just traveled back to Massachusetts so we didn’t need a post cruise covet desk. 9. Just off the fabulous Celebrity Edge yesterday. It was our first time in a suite we were in a sky suite on deck 10. I won’t be able to write all the wonderful about our expertise here. It was as close to a perfect 10 as I think you’d ever get!

The ship- beautiful! Lots of intimate spaces for quiet moments. Lots of spaces for meeting and mingling with new friends both indoors and out. The design is breathtaking in many areas.

Our suite- 10210. Well laid out, spacious, tons of storage! Loved the double sink in the bathroom and enough room for 2 people to get ready. Large balcony. Or Retreat Host Natalia, was a Gem! Professional, engaging, cheerful, thoughtful and unobtrusive!! She left us many beautiful surprises. Our room stand Danila kept our room immaculate and well stocked.

The entertainment- varied, lots of options for all different tastes. Well done.

The Retreat - pool area beautiful, spaces to lounge in sun and shade plentiful. Relaxing. Could use some soft background music. (Personal taste) snacks and bar service on point.

                        - lounge beautiful space. Lovely snacks and ordinary drinks spot, nice outdoor spot with a television as well.

Luminae- we only did breakfast and lunch here and not every day, we found it quite loud acoustically and not what we really wanted for a dinner atmosphere. The service was great.  Some did say if you went after 8 o’clock it was quieter they were quite disappointed that we didn’t go there for dinner. We had planned on going the last night but honestly we’re just not hungry enough.

Tuscan - food was good, service excellent.
Normandie - we really liked. food and service top notch.

Blu- we went twice. Was dining perfection both times!! Service here was next level.

Eden- not just a meal a true Experience. I’d say if you’re a foodie this is a must do!!! We loved this.

We also had a fabulous lunch here one day.

Fine Cut- won 🥇 best meal of our trip. It was fabulous and as good as and high end steak house in Biston our NYC. And the service was better!

The Martini Bar was great as always, wish it was still ice topped.

We had great service at the Eden bar outside as well as indoors, The service by the pool was also very good.

Cabana rental- we enjoyed a relaxing pampered day here.

    Casino was fun

I’d like to see some more mid range shopping options, even on tables on a sea day.

They were out of some things. Everywhere is affected by supply chain issues. They did their best to find substitutes.

The staff/crew are so pleasant and truly seen happy in their work. They want you to have a great day.

    Can’t wait to go again!!

  10. GenerationX we leave in a week! Few days pre cruise in FLL, I really can’t thank you enough for your entertaining and insightful live review. On your recommendations we’ve booked a few of your favorites! A cabana day, Eden, Reidel and a Spa massage.  We have notes on the rest, lol. It’s our first suite experience we usually are Aqua, and have always enjoyed Blu. Hoping it’s warming up for you at home and work isn’t too stressful. I am so looking forward to our first cruise since the pandemic canceled 2 of them on us!!

  11. Thank you for sharing your experiences on your vacation!! I smiled so many toned reading your snippets of the day! I was still a bit anxious about returning to cruising, now after following this, I feel almost back to normal!! Pre Covid we cruised at least twice a year on celebrity.  Excited and packing for our first SUite experience and our first time on Edge at the end of the month!! Your smiles and photos were awesome to see!! I am inspired to dress up again!! Safe travels home.

I could’ve sworn there was someplace on the website where it showed all the cabana amenities but sharing a couple of screenshots from my Celebrity app onboard. This matched up with the printed menu they put in my cabana.  There’s also sections with additional cocktails and wines by the glass (those are listed with prices so I assume not included unless you have a beverage package) but it’s a lot to screenshot. I think if you look in the Celebrity app for any Edge sailing in the Bars & Lounges section and pull up Cabanas, it’ll give you the full menu.

Thank you!! We’re on in a few weeks, I think this will be our Sea Day treat!!
