  1. I tried it for my last cruise which was a 4 day cruise. It had its pros...

Here are the features I used

    • priority embarkation
    • Priority disembarkation
    • reserved seating in all available shows
    • the lunch by Chops during embarkation day (this way underwhelming)
    • wifi
    • luggage drop off at main dining room during embarkation day

Here are the features I did not use:

    • Room service (according to the letter this was free)
    • Priority Time at activities- these were at 9am, which is not a time that I normally wear a bathing suit to ride some waves. Rock climbing was also at 9am. I did not find that the time was convenient and I do not know how many people showed up

For my next cruise in July I decided to cancel the key because I did not feel that it was worth that much money as we would not need to use priority boarding or disembarkation.

  2. I'm excited to hear this great news? Does anyone know if there are "Bella" reviews?

I posted a review recently about my experiences on the seaside. I purchased the Bella experience and had a wonderful time. I was seated in the MDR. I never felt treated like second class because I was not in YC. I went in thinking I would enjoy my trip and it turned out to be great

  3. Good morning. I am new to MSC, have never sailed this cruise line. We have done 10 Carnival and 1 Royal Caribbean. I know they say all cruise lines are more similar than different but I'm not sure what I really need to know. How would one compare MSC to Carnival? We obviously with the number of times we have sailed with Carnival...used to the "party" boats. Always had a real fun time. How does MSC compare to Carnival. We are not seniors and love lots of action. We want to try something new and to be honest the "drink package" which is included on the Seaside kind of attracted our attention. Would MSC be for us?

Just got off seaside out of Miami and I was very impressed with them. Here are some of the activities that they had:

    Daily games at the pool

    Daily dance classes

    Nightly party starting at 10:30

King and queen of seas competition

    Belly flop competition

Pirate night, white night, 70’s night, gatspy night, among others

    Comedy show almost nightly

    Nightly show at the theater

Aerobics in the morning by the pool

Fit dancing in the afternoon by the pool

There are many other things that I felt took up all my time and were fun enough for my husband and I who are in our late 30s early 40s

I have been on carnival and prefer MSC.

    I hope this helps

  4. Not sure what you mean by open Balcony but the GS on the Port and Starboard sides do have a balcony. I just did a mock booking for a GS on deck 11 and it gives you the measurements for the cabin and balcony. With these details, the balcony is a good size.

    This is Starboard side GS

Yes, that is what baffles me. MSC has information on balconies for these suites but the pictures show that they are covered. If I pay for a suite with a balcony I would love to sit outside and enjoy the view, wind, etc.

  5. I've been looking at the same thing. Posts around #405 are the best info I've found.

Thanks. I found the picture below and it further convinces me that these will not have open balconies . Although I checked the description on MSC website and measurements for a balcony are included for each of those suites. I managed to book one of the middle ones for next year... just in case

  6. I had the same questions (still do) when I upgraded from a Fantastica Balcony to an Aurea Suite on the Divina. I am actually not a drinker so I had to cut that out of the equation. We will take advantage of all the other types of drink that will be available to us. My main reason for switching was the kids. My kids are 16 and 14 but are taller than I am (5'7") and our last cruise the space became an issue. I was able to get the corner Aurea Suite that is much larger than the other suites. The difference in price after all discounts (TA, Teacher discount, and OBC) for us is $900. I still look do a mock booking and still think about the extra cash however I cannot see myself giving up that corner cabin.

What I like about the "Aurea Experience"

    1. Cabin size

    2. Kids will enjoy their soft drinks (this is part of the Fantastica experience as well)

    3. Free Massage

    4. Access to Spa

    5. Designated Dining area

    6. My choice dining (I like this because I always find myself rushing prior to dinner time to get ready when coming back from ports)

  7. We just came back from Alaska about two weeks ago. I agree with the previous answers. Go for the inside, make use of the public areas, and spend on some of the excursions. We got up early, went to the top deck on our cruise ship and were able to see a 180 degrees view. It was beautiful. The people we met who had balconies were happy with the space but complained that could not sit outside because it was extremely cold and the wind was strong.

On the plus side.... We travelled on the Explorer of the Seas and once we got to the Glacier, the captain turned the ship, for what felt like about an hour, so that everyone on the balconies could see.

  8. I'm sure it is a sale for someone. When I think about booking a cruise I think about my total cost first, then the itinerary, then the cruise line. My overall goal is to go on vacation so for me the Cruise line does not matter. Royal can call their promotions whatever they want but unless it is the right price for me I will not book with them. I'm actually sailing the Explorer of the Seas in a week and I ended up finding an excellent price when I booked back in August... I do not know what sale they might have been running at that time but all the sales after that priced my cruise/cabin at double the cost. I see many posts about these "sales" but, in my opinion, those that are most frustrated are those who are loyal to Royal.

  9. I will arrive very late as well and decided on Homewood Suites by the Airport. They have a shuttle and the stay includes breakfast and dinner (they call it evening social). From the reviews I read, the shuttle will take you to the light rail station as well. I have opted to use the same hotel for all three nights before the cruise. Think about check in/out times. If you book different hotels you will have to check out at around 10am from one hotel but won't be able to check in to the other until much later. You will have to carry your luggage in between.

This will be my first time in this Homewood Suites but had a great experience at the Homewood Suites in Washington DC.

  10. You will love cruising.

Gratuities vary by Cruise Line. I think for Carnival the rate is $12.95 per person per day.

Sodas are an extra expense. I do not know the price but I can give you a tip about how to save on soft drinks. I always bring the single packs of Kool-aid for my kids and bring it with me during dinner. For lunch the kids normally just drink the lemonade that is free of charge.

On my very first cruise I spent an additional $700. On my last cruise I spent an additional $300. This is including tips and any OBC. I normally do not buy much in the cruise and only pay the gratuities and purchase some arcade credits for the kids... and maybe a photo.

The amount you spend will really depend on what interests you while on the cruise. Save your money for excursions, which you can book independently. Of course, the cruise line offers excursions but might be more expensive. You can also save money while on your stops by doing your own thing. Search ports of call in Cruise Critic and you will find many suggestions.

    Good Luck

  11. You can try to fly out of Venice to a different location in Europe and then fly home from there.

Although a different itinerary, I did this a few years back. I used Air Berlin and Alitalia.
