  1. We once left a cruise ship in Venice at 3:30 in the morning! Ship had arrived at noon the day before. We told HAL the night before when we wanted to leave. They said the door would be open with a security guard all night long and we would have to carry our bags off. I had a taxi booked ahead of time but when we got off there were a few just sitting there.

  2. We have sailed Alaska twice in a balcony. We went up on deck for the panoramic view. Did not use our balcony at all! Go now in an inside. It will be wonderful! You will also be able to sleep b/c it will be dark in your cabin, no midnight sun to keep you awake. That was a real problem for me, if it was light I was awake! By day 4 of not getting a full night of sleep I was a wreak!

  3. Very open minded review! Loved reading this! Each cruise line does things better or worse than other lines. We love every cruise we go on. In fact our Carnival Baltic cruise is our favorite cruise to date! Length of cruise is a huge factor in demographics and party animals. Some of the loudest, drunkest cruisers we have seen where on short cruises. And they were parents on a cruise with their friends having left the kids home. I think some find comfort in predictably and some find it fun to cruise different lines! Thankfully there is something for each of us!

  4. I am glad I cruise multiple cruise lines! I choose cruises based on itenerary and price. I think those who choose this way keep the cruise lines innovative and cost conscious, which benefits all. Each line has different features and a different atmosphere. That is exciting! I'm happy to not be concerned about my "status".

  5. I know that if there is 1 interline person in cabin then everyone else in cabin also is eligible for Interline fare. Interline person is airline employee and their immediate family (spouse, children). I just booked my sister in law in cabin with my daughter. (I am the airline employee). I believe all in cabin are booked one way or the other but if you had perks like priority boarding based on your status with cruise line you would certainly receive them.

Since Carnival owns Princess it's not a far leap to believe if Carnival is successful in cutting cleaning up cabins to once a day Princess would follow. It seems cruising continues to be less attractive with each new cut back and combined with the nickel and dimeing might become a bad value.

I don't see why cruising would be LESS attractive because my cabin was only cleaned once a day! I'm having a wonderful vacation on a floating resort traveling to new destinations! I don't clean my house or bathroom twice a day. I find this very pretentious!

  7. I would DEFINiTELY go to Berlin and Paris on the full day ship excursion! We wondered the same thing, thinking it was too far but the excursions were fantastic!! For Berlin we were put on a train HAL had cartered and really enjoyed the train ride there and then took a nap on the way back. We were able to see many things in Berlin and the ship had reserved a restaurant for lunch. We loved Berlin and decided we wanted to go back for a land vacation later ( which we did at Christmas). In Paris we saw all the major sites, overview of coarse but still saw them and ate in a palace! I usually book private excursions as I feel we see more and they are better quality however if going that far I do the ship excursion. The ship tours are expensive but they include lunch and we have found that for far away cities the private ones are pricey also.

  8. Do all the balcony cabins have drop down beds? We are 6 people booked in 3 balconies. But my 3 teens would like to stay together. On other cruise lines this has not been an issue because the cabins had a sofa which could be used as a bed. On Princess there is a chair instead of a sofa. The deck plan does not show capacity for individual cabins. Thanks!

  9. It will be MUCH easier and less stressful (for you) to do the cruise tour with your mom. Finding your way around and being concerned about her comfort is too much for you! I have not done the tour but my friends did and loved it. The Princess tours are 1st class! Do the tour without the meals so you have more food options. Instead of all the planning the two of you can just enjoy the scenery and each others company. These tours are created with older people in mind. If I were taking my mom I would do the tour.

  10. We have at&t. Turn your cellular data off and wifi on. That way you can still recieve calls and texts. And if you are sending a text send it text message so it will go through if you are not on wifi. We do this b/c we want to be able to get a hold of our kids/spouse if we need too. On airplane mode it's not possible.

  11. You can do ALL the excursions you have planned just fine! You have kids and they are high energy. Many posters here go on a cruise to relax, you are going to SEE Alaska! There will still be plenty of time for relaxing! Kids and adults will LOVE the lumberjack show and dog sledding! My kids still talk about it and look at the pictures! You planned the ultimate dream vacation, leave it just as planned! I would try to make a reservation for dinner in Anchorage since you have so many people at the Glacier Brewhouse.

  12. Thanks so much for sharing. I've never been on Princess and was a bit concerned about my teenagers not having much to interest them as the demographic of Princess and Asia cruises is older. But the lineup sounds fantastic! They love trivia and the dance classes they have done before on HAL. But on HAL the night time entertainment was not of much interest to teens. The shows on this cruise have more acrobatics! Also glad to see some great movies for teens! Love the Japanese additions too. We are going on Diamond 10 day July 25.
