  1. My wife and I are travelling from Canada to Sydney to sail on the Majestic. We are sailing with friends from Australia and our TA booked the two guys in one room and our wives in another room. He said this is because being from Canada we could get a better rate than they could in Australia.

    He has informed us that this cannot be fixed now but I am wondering if this is true. Obivously we will just sleep in the right rooms but I am wondering if we could have it switched.

    My wife and I are going to renew our vows on this cruise so I'm not sure how the room situation would affect booking that. I like my buddy but I don't want to marry him :)

  2. I'm a wife...if DH were to spring that on me AFTER we were on the ship, I would not be a happy camper. Won't she want to wear a special dress?, get her hair done in the spa?

    I guess different people feel different ways and I wouldn't do it if for one minute if i thought she would be nothing less than overjoyed. It is going to be very informal with one other couple in attendance. She will have lots of special dresses to wear and she would never go to a salon on a ship for her hair no matter the reason.

  3. Good day,

    We sailing 13 nights on the Majestic in September. I understand that there will be 2 formal nights for this voyage length but I was wondering if anyone knew what nights they would be?

    I want to surprise my wife with vow renewal but don;t want to do it on a formal night.

    Cheers!

  4. NCL would only have been able to send out information prior to the cruise if they were aware themselves.

    This seems to be an ongoing area of confusion, and I'm not convinced that NCL have got to grips with it.

    That isn't an excuse of course. A company like NCL should know these things and implement them correctly. All I am saying is that it isn't necessarily something that could have been eased by notifying people beforehand. It wouldn't have surprised me if NCL themselves didn't even know what they were doing until very late on.

    Then at least a letter in the cabin to notify the passengers instead of a hard to read clear as mud letter posted at the bars that the bartenders didn't even understand.

  5. Let's be honest NCL could send a singing telegram to each person's home three months before sailing to inform them in person about the tax, that would just give people three months to come on here and complain about it.

    True but there would have been a lot less people upset onboard had they known about it prior to the cruise and had been prepared for the additional cost.

  6. I was on the Star as well and had the free UBP and was charged the 10% tax on every drink. The reason everyone was so upset was not being notified prior to the cruise or even when it started. Bartenders were even confused telling customers the tax charges would stop once we left Spanish waters. There were small print letters posted at the bars explaining the tax but I do not think this is an adequate way to notify everyone. They could have avoided having a lot of unhappy passengers by simply sending out an email prior to the cruise.

    I can't really complain about only paying 10% of the cost of each drink since the UBP was free but being surprised by it left a sour taste in my mouth as it did others especially those who budget their money and didn't take this added cost into account. Speciality dining was also subject to the 10% and any shop purchase subject to 21% tax. The shops were a ghost town and there was never anyone in the photo gallery which I've never seen before.

    Guest services was inundated with complaints and service charge cancellations. Felt bad for the crew who had to deal with the hostility as they were upset themselves as anything they purchased was also subject to the tax.

  7. Isn't Brewers Bay in St Thomas?

    No Brewer's bay is in Tortola and a hidden gem in my opinion. Beautiful quiet beach, great snorkelling, much quieter than cane garden which has jet skis etc. Chairs were $5, bucket of 6 beers $15. Highlight of our of Escape cruise.

  8. Sure, everyone has a job. Some do their jobs well, and some not so well. The person with whom I dealt wasn't just a typical pushy salesperson - she was rude, condescending, and downright nasty with me. Even if I'd planned to buy more than one certificate, there's not a chance in hell I would have after that, and I'm sure that part of it isn't her "job", as you say. Not all the agents I've dealt with have been that way. Most fit into your description above.

    Since we were on the same cruise we were probably dealing with the same person as our experience was similar. We purchased our certificate through the TV so I don't think it's right that they won't process it until they give you the up-sell spiel. My wife originally called down to the desk but eventually gave me the phone after her several polite "no thank you we only need the one" response was ignored so she gave the phone to me.

    I very politely told the person that I only needed one as my wife my explained. At that point it turned rude and nasty with the person telling me that I did not understand how good of a deal it was and that I should rethink it. It was at this point that I told her if she did not want to sell me only one then forget and maybe I should stick to other cruise lines. This changed her tune and she processed the one. We purchased it through the TV so we didn't have to go to the desk and waste our valuable vacation time listening to the spiel but that happened anyway and her nasty attitude and rudeness put a damper on our day.

    That was May 27th and we received our confirmation email today. I went to our account online but nothing showed there but when I called to book our October cruise they had the information and the booking was quick and easy using the certificate.

    I relate the whole experience of purchasing the certificate to pushy souvenir sellers in port that are so rude they make you not want to look at their goods but if they were polite and welcoming then maybe you might actually purchase something. It's about the attitude and polite sales techniques.

  9. Just got off the Escape yesterday. While onboard we bought one cruise next deposit to be used for a Cruise on the Star in October. We purchased it through the TV and later that day we received a message to call the Cruise Next desk as they needed to speak to us to process the purchase.

    We called and received a sales pitch trying to get us to purchase additional deposits but since we don't tend to stick to any one cruise line we declined and after some more pressure to buy more finally got the one we wanted purchased. The person we were dealing with told us we would receive an email confirmation but since we didn't have an Internet package we could not confirm this. We were charged for the deposit and received the $100 OBC but did not receive anything else.

    Should've we have received an actual certificate or just an email with the details.

    Who should I contact regarding this, I see there is a phone number for Cruise Next is that who I should call?

  10. Does anybody know what the current "additional FREE offer available on board only" is if you book a specific cruise while on board. I am sailing on the Escape next week and want to book the Star in October.

    Hoping to know ahead of time if it is worth my while to book this cruise while on board or just buy a CruiseNext deposit and book the cruise when I get home.

  11. I'm wondering the same as I want to book a Med. cruise in October but I will be on the Escape starting the 21st and would like to buy a CruiseNext deposit.

    I'm wondering if they would know the next promotion when I get on the ship and buy the deposit. I'll book on the 22nd if I have to but would hate to do that if a better promotion came out the next day as the Arcade and photo credits are not that appealing to us (just want the UBP lol)

  12. My Wife and I each booked a room on the Vision in October but the couple travelling with us might have to cancel. We booked when the reduced deposit was being offered. Looking at the cruise documentation it says the deposit will be lost if we cancel between July 26th & August 12th. So am I right in my assumption that we can cancel now with no penalty as it doesn't say anything about cancelling prior to July 26th.

    How long does it usually take to process a cancellation? Can it be done online or is better to call and cancel?

    Thanks in advance.

  13.

    The ship looks really awesome but I don't think I could handle rude guests and the lack of being able to converse with fellow passengers for 7 days

    For us meeting people from around the world is part of the appeal of cruising and we usually find a way to converse even when English is not their first language. Seems most people from around world know some English but I can;t say I know much of their languages although it's great to learn some phrases.

    We find that the majority of the rude guests on cruises are the english speaking ones and the foreign guests are much more polite and good mannered.

  14. Thanks to this thread I have bought $400 USD three times in the past three weeks at the $1.10 exchange rate for a total of $1200.

    Called again today and the rep said I couldn't buy any more without faxing a copy of my ID and credit card as I had bought over $500. I tried to explain to him that I believe that policy comes into play if I am buying over $500 at any one time but as long as I was buying $499 or less I did not need to do that. The reps i talked to previously told me this.

    He replied that I was incorrect and once i reached $500 OBC I needed to fax copies of my info. I asked him how then have I been able to buy $1200 up to this point without doing so. His response was maybe they didn't know i bought OBC previously which is not correct because each confirmation receipt email shows the previous transactions.

    I asked to speak to a Supervisor but after being on hold 15mins I gave up and hung up. I'll try again tomorrow. If i have to i'll fax my info but it's frustrating to get different info each time I call.

  15. Just wondering what is the latest you have seen dining open for reservations? We are on the October 3rd sailing of the Oasis (48 days from now) and dining has yet to open for reservations even though I received numerous emails reminding me to book.

    This is the case for everyone on this sailing not just me.

  16. There is no set time my cruise is in Nov and I can't book entertainment or dining.

    My cruise is Oct 3rd on the Oasis and dining is not yet open for booking.

    Speciality dining on the Oasis includes:

    * Chops Grille

    * 150 Central Park

    * Giovanni's Table

    * Izumi

    * Sabor
