  1. Like everyone else has said, our first view of Oasis was awe-inspiring. It has hard to believe that Promenade is on a cruise ship. My son went on the ship spoiler free and he walked into the promenade and stopped in place staring.

I had originally planned to eat lunch at the Park Cafe, but my the time my parents finally made it through security, we decided we might be better off going to the Solarium.

We never ended up eating lunch at the Park cafe. I would have liked to try their version of beef on wick being a Western New York, the home of beef on wick, but we never made it there for lunch. Nana, my son, and I had many pre-breakfasts there. We decided it was not the best place to eat for someone who is gluten free. They probably had gluten fee options, but my husband preferred other locations.

The Solarium for lunch was not overcrowded when we arrived around 12:45 and we were able to get a table for 6. My mom and I really enjoyed the gazpacho and salads. My dad and husband were able to find plenty. My children were not happy with the options. We did not eat there again all week.

We are also from WNY, NT to be exact. We have had the Beef on Weck from the Park Cafe and although good, it cannot compare to back home. Good review.

  2. We used Amsterdam City Tours in 2015 and they were fantastic. /www.amsterdamcitytours.com

We went to Keukenhof Gardens (full bloom in April) which were amazing, toured a cheese factory, windmill and a Dutch wooden shoe factory as well as a tour around the city. Had a very enjoyable day.

Good luck. To keep costs down, post on your cruise roll call and other folks may join you.

  3. A Visit From St Nicholas

(With Apologies to Clement Clarke Moore)

T'was the night before Christmas, when all through the ship,

not a creature was stirring, no drinks left to sip.

The stockings were hung on the balconies with glee

in hopes that St Nicholas would find us at sea.

The cruisers were snuggled all warm in their bunks.

The guys with their sweeties, the girls with their hunks.

And Joyce in her jammies and I in the buff

had just taken bonine as the seas were quite rough.

When somewhere above there resounded a roar

I sprang from my bed and fell flat on the floor.

Away to the slider I stumbled and lurched,

went out to the balcony and searched and searched.

The moon on the waves cast an eerie bright light

so it looked more like noon, instead of midnight.

When what aparition appeared on the seas

but a bright red tender pulled by 8 red jet skis.

And atop the tender, with a whip in his hand,

was a bearded jolly elf so plump and so tanned.

And they sped o'er the wavetops onward they came

he whistled and shouted and called them by name.

On Legend, on Grandeur, on Freedom and Sovereign,

on Empress, on Jewel, on Monarch and Vision.

On up to the Lido, Viking Crown Lounge so tall

now dash away, dash away, dash away all.

As zephyrs, and breezes and hurricanes blew

they arose to the sky on the updrafts they flew.

So up to the sky bridge in search of a flue

went the vessels with Santa and all of his crew.

And above we could hear them, it sounded so cool

the tender and jet skies doing donuts in the pool.

As it grew quiet, we heard a faint sound

and there was St Nicholas as we turned around.

He was dressed in a wet suit with flippers and all

and he was almost as wide as he was tall.

He had a case of wine under each arm

with Pinots and Malbecs to help us stay warm.

His eyes were all bloodshot but oh, how they twinkled.

And his hands they looked frozen, so red and so wrinkled.

He opened his mouth and let go with a yell

"Hey let's open this wine, I'm about cold as hell"

He pulled out a pipe and some green stuff and said

"No, I'll save this for later, I've a long night ahead".

He looked like a sausage packed tight; he was stout

but his belly was pooching as his spanx they gave out.

With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head

he opened and poured us a large glass of red.

After that he was silent and set to his task,

filled our stockings with wine and put some in his flask.

Then he jumped off the balcony but went up not down

and the mist began swirling around and around.

His minions were waiting, to the tender he flew

and they headed to the next ship to give them thier due.

But we heard him exclaim as he sailed out of sight

"Happy Cruising to all and to all a good night".

    Merry Christmas

    and

    Bon VoyageHarry

    Fantastic!

  4. And have Good Insurance! Was in car accident in 1999, out work 2 yrs & had neck fusion. 4 kids in car with me but none hurt. Other driver hit me from behind at 45 mph while at standstill. I sued, she only had 50000 auto insurance, which my lawyer got 30%. At time I carried 50000/100000 then and since carry 500,000/500,000, so that I'm covered in case others aren't...
We also have 500,000/500,000 with a 1,000,000 umbrella.

  5. Does anyone else have a list of people from this forum that they hope to never meet on a cruise?

First cruise coming up but we will take a pass on the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet. There appear to be some very strong opinions about some seemingly innocent practises.

As I read this thread I keep singing, "You're as cuddly as a cactus, You're as charming as an eel, You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel."

OMG that last paragraph is priceless!

I am guessing the pro decorating cruisers prefer comedy and family movies and the con cruisers are more into drama.... Lifes too short to worry about the small stuff.. Yes we decorate our door. Have grandkids and with magnets and paper can be really creative...
