If you are briskly walking you will keep warm. If it is a bit choppy or windy the deck will be closed.

Go for the light, wind and rainproof jacket with a hat, scarf and gloves as mentioned before. I am certain that there will be people in Southampton in 'light' clothing😁. I don't know how they don't catch their death's!

All good advice and yes you will see a lot of people "trying to catch their deaths" They are usualy roughy toughy young chaps who wear shorts and T shirts when the weather is freezing.! ❄️

  2. I don’t think it will work on Cunard, but for the next two years we are limited to ships with drop off nurseries for age 0-2. This would be a nice way for families to see how nice it is to sail Cunard, but would probably not make their core customer base happy.

If Cunard are building bigger ships I am sure they are looking to cater for more families and so they should.

  3. Not sure that Cunard would take any notice of passengers ideas\requests but here are a few they could mull over for future generations of cruisers.

    Bowling Alley

    Penny Arcade

    Bumber cars

    Candy Floss Stand

    Wrap around racing track

    Vape Bar

    Burger Bar

    Robot Waiters

    Robotic Entertainers

    ;):):D:cool::'):confused:

  4. That is a serious sum of money. Out of my league. Each to their own. I am in steerage on QM2 in March, have to raid my piggy bank for a few tips then.

Way out of my league as well. If everyone tipped as generously the crew would be earning an enormous amount of money!

  5. We used parkin4cruises for 99 night World cruise with P&O and they were excellent. Car park is just opposite the cruise terminal , short stay but the company remove your car to secure parking. Excellent service and half the price of CPS. Tina

  6. I started this thread, totally oblivious to the side issues which would arise. I must stress we would NEVER ever take our own supply of alcohol outside of our cabin. Further, when in a bar, lounge or restaurant we will certainly only ever buy the Cunard supplied alcohol and that will certainly comprise spirits, wines and liqueurs.

It would seem from the on-topic posts on this thread that there has been no change to the Cunard policy in respect of taking alcohol onboard and therefore our plan is still doable.

    Thank you to contributors.

Thank you for posting this question. I have never cruised with Cunard before so am trying to research as much as I can before booking. Alcohol in cabins is just one of the many questions running through my mind. Sorry these questions usually get sidetracked into the "dos and dont's" of ships etiquette. Still, all good information.

  7. I'm thinking of booking the Britannia but some of the posts on here have scared me.

I've cruised with Celebrity, Carnival, Princess and RC and have always used the same suit for formal nights which is a mid grey colour, does it have to be a dark suit?

No your suit sounds just fine. We did two weeks on Britannia a couple of years ago and did not attend any of the formal nights and we did not eat in the MDR. The theatre, casino, buffet and other bars are all available to use. But if you want to go formal your suit will be fine.

  8. Not had a problem with sun beds but did do 5 weeks on Britannia to Caribbean a couple of years ago. No sun beds anywhere as they were occupied by older people sunbathing topless!! Before anyone jumps on me for being ageist etc I am actually 74 and would absolutely NOT expose my wrinkled exterior for a bit of sun.

  9. I've used a "GoPro" look alike for a couple of years for taking time lapse videos. Attached it to the railings or balcony. This was Oceana going through the Gatun Locks on the Panama Canal last year - taken from the back of the ship.

What is a GoPro? Or am I just thick?

  10. I was on Aurora on the first leg of the world cruise earlier this year and spoke to passengers who were having to Disembark before reaching India and fly to Sri Lanka to rejoin the ship at their own expense. An e visa is only valid when arriving by air, and then only at selected airports. Even if you intend to stay on board you still need a visa so you may as well get off and have a look around Cochin. It is certainly a place worth seeing.

This is from the Indian Embassy website and clearly states that an EVisa is OK for three specific ports.

    • e-Visa is valid for entry through 24 designated Airports (i.e. Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh,Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum & Varanasi) and 3 designated seaports(i.e. Cochin, Goa, Mangalore). However, the foreigner can take exit from any of the authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in India.

  11. Parking4Cruises is just as convenient, the short term car park is literally opposite the terminal. It's a one minute walk back to the terminal.

I agree it is only just across the road. same system at arrival and departure. If i was only away for a couple of weeks I would not mind an extra couple of quid. But as I said before for a long cruise £585 is a lot different to £275 and I believe the security is not an issue. At the end of the day if someone really wants to steal or damage the car they will do it wherever the car is stored

  12. Hello, please could anyone tell me if I can buy Christian Dior hypnotic poison and Clarins beauty flash balm on Brittannia. Can I also buy aerosol spray sun lotion on the ship (do they have a Boot's shop or similar)? I'm looking to save weight on baggage allowance.

    Thank you.

In my experience they sell most perfumes and toiletries including sun tan lotions. Whether they sell your favourite brands I have no idea. Cabins have basic stuff like shampoo and shower gels. Shops on board are always more expensive.

  13. I can only say that we have used them about 5 times, never a mark on my car and if it' behind a locked gate with CCTV that's all I need.

99 nights for Jan 2018 - CPS £585 -Parking4Cruises £275 and no extra paid for car start but you can have a valet service. I assume CPS are more expensive as they are nearer the ship. But if you google the parking at the docks and check the images you will see that there are literally thousands of cars and numerous car parking companies. Parking4Cruises give a big discount for early booking. CPS keep their prices up because they are the preferred company for P&O

  14. Why not try Parking4cruises. the only difference is that you drop your partner and whoever else and the bags. Then you drive just across the road to the short term car park and they photograph your car and take it away. Same thing on your return. Walk across to the short term car park and get your car. Much, much cheaper than CPS

Thank you for the tip. I have just booked Parking4Cruises for World Cruise in January. They were half the price of CPS and have excellent reviews. I think they have a good discount at the moment that runs out in a couple of days

  15. On your first point,if it occurs on your cruise, no benefits are applied until your next cruise. Also your peninsular club level does not change mid cruise. This is how we found it.clear.png?emoji-mad-1709

Second point no paperwork is issued, trust and luck, its what makes the world go round.clear.png?emoji-roll-eyes-1744

On a happy note, someone may have your laundry!clear.png?emoji-eek-1725

Except on World cruises where points are added at the end of each segment. Whatever a segment may be??

  16. I agree. People are different and have different opinions about all members of staff. Most people are just doing their jobs and as in all occupations some may be better than others. If you start criticising an individual the comments on these social networking sites can get out of hand and could e seen as slanderous.

    Ooops! I forgot the "b"

  17. There have been derogatory comments posted about officers in the past. I think it is very bad practice to slag off officers on this forum to which they cannot respond. It is completely subjective and unfair and in my opinion any such posts should be removed and posters warned about the appropriateness of any further postings. I believe in free speech but not if it unfairly maligns others.

  18. I would be happy if they took any of those options.

Increase the fare with gratuities included and get rid of the on board credit which I personally don't find is an incentive to book a cruise. There are other perks/discounts that could be offered that would be just as attractive.
