Thanks so much. Its pricey but I’m tempted to try it since it seems like something special that we would do only once. I think it might be on the day that we are overnight in Aruba and I made a reservation at a beachfront restaurant so I’ll have to decide which I would prefer to do. I’m so lucky to have this type of problem! Life is short and we’ve worked hard so, yes, we want to enjoy every opportunity that we can.

I love that and feel the same way! It definitely sounds like a truly special experience. That’s why I’m excited for it too. We’ve taken many Celebrity cruises and I love finding that extra special event for memories. Aruba on the beach sounds wonderful too. I wouldn’t cancel that until you are sure this one is a go - I’ve heard it can get cancelled if the weather is less than ideal. But if ideal, would be so much fun!

Thank you for all this info. I have some questions: does the price include all the items on the menu or is there an up charge for certain items such as the sea food tower? Is there a wine pairing? If so, is it covered by the price or by the classic drink package? If you book pre-cruise and then the dinner is scheduled for a port day when you have a previous commitment ( not through the ship) can you cancel for a full refund?

thanks for any information you can provide

I think I can answer some of your questions - a few were answered on this thread. I had pretty much the same questions! It’s seems like if you have a conflicting reservation, it is up to you to change it. I know I’ve heard they are pretty accommodating since they want you to enjoy (purchase) both. The night we are in port, I’m going to quickly make my excursion/other specialty reservation decisions as soon as I find out our reservation time for the Dinner on the Edge/Magic Carpet.

As for the meal, I’d assume there aren’t up charges (usually it would be listed on the menu and I don’t see any.) and from the sounds of it, you get to try everything listed!! I’d also guess whatever wine package you already have would kick in. ((Again, since not on the menu - which was great to have a picture of here. Really looks delicious!)

    Hope that helps some!!

We have it booked for our cruise on Edge 1/23 cruise. We are in Aruba for an overnight. So I assume it will be on that night. Menu looks delicious.

That will be an amazing view! Enjoy! Would love to hear how I you liked it.

Yes, you get EVERYTHING!!!!  That was not clear to us when we booked it.  We are not fish eaters and there was a massive seafood tower in the appetizer section.  There was also Charcuterie so we just assumed we would pick that and be happy.  We enjoyed the dinner but we really threw them off when we asked than not to bring the seafood tower or the lobster entree.

Amazing!! That’s a funny story. The seafood tower sounds amazing for us seafood lovers. But I’d love the charcuterie too!!

I just got off a B2B on Beyond and this is the first I’ve heard of this. How do you get a reservation? What is the cost? Thanks.

It is listed on our cruise app. It’s definitely not cheap, but sounds like an amazing experience!

We did this dinner on Edge last month. There was one day where we were in port until 11 pm, and it was held that night. They stagger arrival times in either 15- or 30-minute increments, beginning at 6 pm. The early arrivals obviously were assigned the table right next to the edge of the platform, and then there was another row of tables next to those - most of them were tables for two, and the later arrivals were seated there.

I've attached the menu used on our sailing. They serve each of the appetizers in sequence, and then the entrees served on a platter family-style, and then all 3 desserts as a sampler with a plate for each guest.

Honestly, we weren't as impressed as we expected. The setting was incredible, and the service was of course wonderful. But the food was just so-so. They use the pool-burger restaurant (Waves?) around the corner for staging and cooking, and most of the food came out lukewarm at best. We're glad we did it, but we canceled our reservation for our May cruise on Beyond. The food and menu in Luminae were superior. Your call if it's worth a try, but think about the cost and what you'd get in a land-based restaurant for that amount.

If you have another specialty restaurant booked, it's on you to cancel or re-schedule it. Let me know if you have other questions. (We found scant info when we were deciding last year.)

This is VERY helpful! I think the menu sounds delicious. Too bad about the temperature, but it does sound very good. And you get to try everything?? 🙂

We have excursions in Puerto Rico, so it sounds like I might want to be prepared to cancel them if need be. We are also in a suite (which sounds like you were as well?) so hopefully the butler can help with that too. The view just sounds so inviting!

It's been really hard to find information on it, so thank you!!

I asked the same question last month and after looking at the menu, price point, and the fact are in no ports past 6:00 I canceled my booking.  Here is the link to the previous thread although it doesn't contain much more than this one does.

Oh, thank you so much! This thread was helpful. We are in Puerto Rico late, although have planned excursions. I wonder what time this will turn out to be. Maybe I'm too much of a planner. Lol!

The captain will choose the date and time for the dinner based on meteorological conditions. Wind and rain can make the experience less than ideal. They tend to do it with quiet waters or in port if you are there late enough.

It is a specialty menu, and the service is excellent (as is the food). I put it on par with the Chefs table in terms of quality. It is expensive to many, and you can simulate the outdoor dining experience by eating at Rooftop Garden if you prefer 🙂

Thank you! That's the one thing I have seen about the weather. I guess just cross my fingers!!

Menus change daily and are very similar across the fleet. SmMany posts here or easiest to Google Celebrity dinner menus.

You can get a fixed time to dine after you board or simply pick a time each night.

In the MDR if you have a fixed time we simply let our waiter know we will not be there on a given night.  If dine my way - they won't know if you eat elsewhere.

Guessing "it" is dinner - usually 5:30.  Tends to be busy till about 7pm

We like the food in the MDR.   Not as good as pre Covid on a recent cruise but both service and food were better than Princess recently.

Sorry! I didn't explain very well - I've updated my original post with another. I always love the food on Celebrity too!!

  10. I should have explained more. This is not any dinner but the Specialty Dining called "Dinner on the Edge". This is the experience of dining at the top of the Magic Carpet. Unfortunately, it's not letting me edit my original post, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has done this specialty dining experience on the Magic Carpet on the Edge-class ships? Thank you!!

    1. What is the menu?
    2. It doesn't give a date - I know they assign this on board, but is it typically a sea day or port day?
    3. What happens if you already have another specialty restaurant booked for the same night, or if a port day, what if you have a conflicting excursion?
    4. What time does it start usually?
    5. Do you love it? 😃

  11. Has anyone done Dinner on the Edge on Celebrity Apex (or other Edge ship) recently? It's available for booking for our cruise on the website, but I can't find too much information and would love to find out any or all of the following answers!

Thanks in advance for your help!!

We had a similar situation.  Starting when they were very young, we have taken both of our kids on many Celebrity cruises including several Christmas/NYE cruises.  By the time our son turned 20 he was on his 10th Celebrity cruise.

Since your cruise is a Christmas cruise, you will find plenty of passengers his age on board--although I will admit that there are not a lot of organized opportunities to actually meet them.

By the time he was 20, the activities on shore took center stage for him--so, many of our shore excursions have been experiential--segway tours, quad bike rides, renting jet-skis, sailing, and swimming with stingrays or sea lions, etc.

We have taken the kids scuba diving at many of the ports we visited.  During our last trip to Aruba, we went diving to hunt lionfish (photo) which both kids absolutely loved.  Bonaire is a great snorkeling/diving island and the last few times we've cruised there, it's always been a diving day for us.  However I also found this landsailing activity that I know our two kids would absolutely love which we will do the next time we are there (in addition to diving).

    1209402023_ChrisCatchesaLionfish.thumb.jpg.3c590eca9eaa1ed2abe038c5c5b6619d.jpg

He was never into working out at the gym until he started going to college and by the time he was 20 or 21, he started visiting the ship's gym on every cruise.

He had also become somewhat of a foodie and he always looked forward to eating at the specialty restaurants.  He discovered his love for sushi during our first visit to Sushi on Five.  The Lawn Club Grill was a big hit where he got to throw his own pizza (photo).  We've let he and his sister order the shared dishes that we would eat at Tuscan Grille.

He enjoyed going to some of the shows--especially if there was a good comedian.

I also took him to the casino where he learned blackjack--how to play basic strategy and understanding table etiquette.  He came out ahead during his first few sessions (much to me amazement) and thought it was easy.

Our son has a voracious appetite and he loved raiding the restaurants/grill at anytime of the day.  He especially loves ordering room service each evening to enjoy a bowl of spaghetti bolognese while plowing through every free movie late at night in our cabin.  There were a few cruises where we brought a Playstation for him to connect to the stateroom TV to play.

AMAZING! I wish you were going on our cruise - our kids would hit it off!!  🙂  I'll definitely have him help in planning excursions. And seeing your son throwing that pizza in the air reminded me that my son loves tossing pizzas at home, so I know that will be a hit. I was going to have him bring a portable gaming system as well. It's nice to have that option, even when just sitting on the balcony or on a top deck (with the hopes he'll see an activity going on to join in!) I really appreciate your photos and ideas - thank you!!

Arranging activities in ports that our son would enjoy is exactly what we used to do for our son at your son’s age! Contrary to comments from others about RC suiting your son better our son began to ‘outgrow’ the activities on RC by the time he was about 17 (been, seen, done it…). Active days in port followed by leisurely pool days on Celebrity suited him just fine!

We always involved him in planning excursions etc and were often surprised he sometimes preferred a cultural rather than an action based activity. Travel really does widen ones outlook. We always ensured he had electronic devices for quieter times and we also enjoyed family card games and playing chess. Looking back it was really valuable family time.

I am sure there will be enough other young adults on board for him to socialise with poolside or in the gym (look out for any arranged pool volleyball activities etc). Have a fantastic cruise!

I completely agree about outgrowing the "kids" activities! Your thoughts are great and right up my alley. I'm definitely going to hit him up for help in choosing excursions.

There may also be some active excursions..

Jeeps, ATVs, golf cart rental... zip lines, hikes, water sports,, bike rentals.

Depends on ports and limitations due to Covid.

One of our ports is Bonaire and I’ve heard there are golf carts to rent there. I’ll have to look into that! Loved your other ideas above - we are planning on Le Petite Chef. That’s one specialty we haven’t tried yet and looks like fun! And happy to hear they might have a few activities like the Edge. Thank you!

  15. Thanks to everyone for your responses! We orginally booked our Celebrity Cruise when onboard pre-COVID on a ship that had the basketball court at the time. With all of the cancellations, we still want to cruise Celebrity, so I was looking for ideas since 2+ years have passed and we still have this cruise for 4 people booked. I would lose a lot of money changing cruise lines, but thanks for that thought. I'm sure my kids will still have a great time and happy to go on a vacation!

Teens that age generally go to the teens club and meet others and    tend to hang out in their own way around the ship.

As much as I hate to say it there is one activity they can get involved in which of course you have to be careful of and that is the Casino.  They are allowed to gamble on Celebrity ships at 18 except for Alaska.

He’s actually looking forward to trying out the casino! You are correct - I’ll have to monitor that one carefully!

Celebrity isn’t really the perfect fit for young adults looking for younger minded activities on a cruise ship, yes I’m sure there are some that like bingo and the good old $10 trash sale but actual activities designed for that age group I can’t say I’ve ever seen any on any celebrity cruise I’ve been on 🤔

My only recommendation would be not to cruise celebrity 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is going to be my kids 9th Celebrity Cruise. They have loved it throughout the years. My youngest has always had a great time on the court - even saw the Captain playing once! Unfortunately, it’s no longer there and he’s outgrown all of the teen lounges. But I definitely agree, other cruise lines have many more activities for them!

  18. My 19 turning 20 year old son just discovered there is no basketball court anymore for our Celebrity Silhouette sailing! Has anyone had any experience with young adults on Celebrity Cruises? Do they have any “cool” organized activities for this age group (especially boys)? Love to hear any suggestions or ideas you’ve come up with. We are going to be on a holiday cruise. I’m hoping there will be other young adults in the same boat (no pun intended!) 😀

Back in early May, I posted some info and a couple pictures from 2019 on our roll call (I'm also booked on Silhouette for 12/24). Hopefully the festivities won't change too much with COVID protocols.

Yes! I remember seeing your photos and descriptions - they were great! I’m very curious how they will handle the festivities. Can’t wait to be back on board. 😀

Great to hear! I absolutely love your Evening Chic outfits. Thanks for sharing! I miss those days. We’ve been onboard for Christmas before but this will be our first NYE at sea. I am excited that we’ll have both holidays. We are on Silhouette on 12/24-1/4. Too bad not the same!
