  1. Has anyone tried to look at shore excursions for this cruise and found that 1. It seems to be impossible to get into the Cruise Planner (keep getting bounced back to the main Celebrity Cruises screen), and 2. The one time I did get into the planner there are very, very few excursions available, it seems. None at all in Scotland, A few in Iceland, 3 excursions total in Greenland. Don't even ask about Halifax because its (apparently) off the table.

I called Celebrity to inquire and the person I spoke to was pretty much clueless, but she said that she did not show any excursions as being sold out, so that in these places, there are only the very few available.

Plus, the one excursion that I found interesting in Iceland, The Blue Lagoon, if you look at the website for the Blue Lagoon, it's currently closed as a Covid precaution....

    Sighs...

  2. Something that really bothers me is that aside from our cruise, we booked over $4K in airfare through Celebrity. we cancelled on March 9, and i was assured by Delta Airlines that the cost of the tickets was refunded to RCCL by March 14, less than a week. We've yet to get any money (or FCC) from Celebrity, now getting close to 2 months, and regarding the airfares they will only say "they are in process"....

They have promised you either a refund or FCC.  The contract that you accepted covers that.  They certainly have a legal responsibility to refund your money, but you need to tell them if you want a FCC or refund.

You certainly can do as you see fit, but the charge was definately legitimate. You booked a cruise.

Calling their bank that issued the credit card is a good idea.  The terms of the credit card Are with the issuing bank - not Celebrity.  They can easily and quickly transfer the refund to another account if they do not agree to waive you paying the amount due.

This is simple and just requires a bit of your patience.

Theyve also promised FCC's and refunds in far shorter time than it appears to be taking. On 3/9 they told me 10 days and I'm waiting...not so patiently any more,...

  4. We were booked on Solstice for March 20 Barrier Reef cruise. We cancelled on March 9, including the flights arranged by Celebrity, nearly $5K. We were told we'd have a credit card refund within 10 days. Still waiting. Still waiting on FCC, too, as well as refunds on excursions and dining.

Yes, I booked online - initially about a year ago! The thing with alcoves is only book for one person (you can all use it!) as otherwise it will say unavailable. Might be worth trying that.

OK thats strange because yesterday I was given two different answers by Celebrity representatives. One said it cant be booked until less than 6 months out. The other said that Alcoves on Sea Days can only be booked once onboard the ship. Seems like none of them know what they are talking about.

I’m on her in April 2020 so am very glad to see there will still be the Sky Lounge and hope they keep the shade for the Sunset Bar. Have prebooked an Alcove for the moment - may cancel though. Interestingly I’m also on Constellation in July not long enter her drydock!

    Thank you!

If you dont mind me asking, were you able to book the Alcove for your cruise online? We're cruising Solstice in March'20 and I tried to book an Alcove but system came back as unavailable. When I called Celebrity they said we were outside the 6 month time window for booking an alcove. I wonder how then you were able to book one for April? Thanks!

  8. Can anyone shed some light on booking alcoves on Solstice? Is there a time window that you have to be within? Cruise Planner says they can be booked, but when I try to, no luck. Waited 45 minutes on hold and then got frustrated and hung up.

  9. Can anyone offer advice on how to best check an item at embarkation? We will be boarding Diamond Princess tomorrow, and while in Tokyo my son purchased a cooking knife. We would like to be proactive, and check this with security pre-boarding for pickup later. We don’t want to seem like we are trying to sneak it on board, but as I recall, all bags are handed to porters or scanned before even reaching check in. Any advice?

  10. we just got off the Diamond Princess on 5/27. As mentioned above, on formal nites, there were some beautiful kimonos worn, as well as Tuxedos, suits and dresses as you would on other Princess cruises. Daily wear, no different from other cruises (Alaska, Caribbean, etc.). have fun

Thanks for your input. What are your thoughts on the ship and service?

  11. Going to be taking a Japan cruise in July and wondering....we've never done an Asian cruise before, and I see that the temperature is likely to be somewhere around 75 to 85 F, and this leads me to the question...(maybe a silly one)...would the expectations be to dress similarly to any other cruise? I realize that the bulk of passaengers are likely to be Japanese, Aussies, and New Zealanders, but I dont want to stick out like a dumb American....

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  12. This is true. Just off Carnival Conquest last week. Saw one clown with a baseball hat, some with shorts, some with jeans on elegant night. I don't feel they will stop you and possibly impact the tips for the servers. Some sneakers on elegant night as well. It really doesn't bother me.

What else would you expect? You were on the Walmart of cruise lines.....

  13. Highly recommend Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal. Great location and accommodations and service. I do agree that you need far more than a couple hours the morning of embark meant to see anything in Venice. Spend a couple (at least)days there.....it’s well worth it!

  14. If a ship (Grandeur) has something not functioning (stabilizer) properly and I don't want to go and be sick most of the time, do I have the right to a refund? It also has an engine that is broken and in need of repair. The repairs will not be made until after our cruise. People who have just returned on her have stated that many were sick including crew and performers. Shows were cancelled. People who have cruised frequently said it was far worse than anything they had experienced. Since Grandeur goes back and forth along the east coast, this is a huge problem. I'm very worried about leaving on Saturday. I do use scopalomine patches, but I'm afraid under these circumstances, they won't work. Thoughts? Thank you!

A refund? Come on, get real. As long as the ship sails, its a full price cruise.

  15. Rccl’s drink prices have risen a ridiculous amount in recent years. I will *never* pay what they are charging whether or not I can bring my own wine on board, so I might as well enjoy myself. And some mark up is expected, but what they are charging is criminal.
