I would strongly recommend taking manual wheelchairs as well, and using these for shore trips. That way you can rent a car and put the wheelchairs in the trunk. Lift equipped bus or van excursions are very difficult to find. Also keep in mind that you can generally not take a power wheelchair on tenders, even if the person can walk onto the tender themselves (and if they cannot, they usually will not be allowed on a tender at all).
I am assuming they are traveling with some able bodied companions who can push a manual wheelchair for them??
In Honolulu we did take the power wheelchair on the Bus, which was a pretty easy way to get around, but I don't think there is room for 2 power wheelchairs on any of the buses we were on.
There son was suppose to be going with them it looks like his Navy leave is getting canceled. They have their hearts set on going. Right now I am trying to find a way for them to being able to go and still enjoy themselves. Neither of them are allowed to drive anymore so that complicates things too.

Since they use electric wheelchairs, they would need a vehicle with a ramp or lift and that could hold two chairs.
Have you looked into wheelchair accessible ship excursions?
You didn't mention what line they are on, but we have found wheelchair accessible excursions in Kauii, Oahu and Hilo. Maui also shows one or two excursions but that has been a tender port for us, so my husband cannot get off the ship.
Sorry, they are going on Carnival. I looked at the excursions but nothing specifies handicap accessible. They have activity levels but last time we based it off of that it did not work out.

I am trying to help my mobility limited in laws plan their Hawaii cruise and I seem to be having a hard time coming up with things they can do. Both use electric wheelchairs and cannot walk more than 10 steps. Suggestions please!!!

Great review/account :) We board on Sunday so I found it especially helpful. Thanks for sticking with it when some people were being so rude.

They really need a drooling smiley!!!

That is so much better!'

What time did you say you got to port? We leave Sunday and I want to be there early. I am hoping by 10:30
-
Actually FTTF allows you to choose your debarktion zone. You can get off early or late with it. We really like it. When I got zone 1 I just brought it to the service desk and they saw the FTTF and ask which zone I would prefer and gave me a late one.

I started with Potage Saint Germain, very good. Then I also tried the Beef Carpaccio, which was also very good. For an entree I had Grilled New York Strip Steak from Aged American Beef, very yummy. For dessert I had WARM MELTING CHOCOLATE CAKE and yes it's that good I have to shout it. It's positively orgasmic, this time I get it with strawberry ice cream, could it get any better, oh yes it can. Chocolate and strawberry were made to be together, a match made in heaven!

You are seriously making me soo hungry:D

Oh no doubt you get it cheaper, but some ports I rather be safe than sorry, and others I feel totally comfortable winging it :D;).
Also some excursions you can only do through the cruise line.
I agree with this! I almost never book through CCL but there are a few exceptions where I would.

Cabe tubing in Belize is awesome!!! But if you go dont book through the cruise line its so much and a longer experience if you book privately. We watched the cruise line excursion get out just after the cave and we stayed on the river for another few miles. We also went ATVing too...we booked with Butts Up and really like them.
In Roatan we rented a cabana. The beach is beautiful but crowded except where the cabanas are. They only let people that rented them on that part of the beach. We also got a taxi and went to see Victor Bodens monkeys. They were so cute and fun to play with.

I always take my camera but just like anywhere I take it I keep a close watch on it.
-
Thats not bad. Have you checked into buying one on ebay? My.in laws use them and they actually just switched to electric wheelchairs now. I got them there and paid $350. Considering they are thousands brand new they were very happy.

ALWAYS order the EB with the sauce on the side. Much better. Little trick I learned here on CC. :D
I ALWAYS do that too! I learned it here too and what a difference it makes.

We saw a couple win $1000 and an IPad when we were on the Dream.

Remember though if you haven't prepaid your tips on day three they will be added and it will come out of their limit. We always set a limit for the kids. They have their own money and buy what they want but it stops them from going over.

When i first went on the Splendor the pink decor throw me for a loop but after a day i just got used to it and it never annoyed me
I am looking forward to sailing on the Splendor again in 2 weeks..woohoo!!
Me too, cannot wait two weeks woot woot!
-
Jamie is Awesome and Butch is great never sailed with Matt. But I can say I would pick the Breeze and Sunshine over the Glory only because they are newer ships and have some features that the Glory doesn't.
-
It is a huge gamble. I have seen them go up and down after final payment. If it were me I would book now. We are booked on the Splendor in a few weeks and after final payment the prices skyrocketed. Now they are asking more for an interior than we paid for our balcony. We also have to book two rooms. They do have restrictions, younger kids they will have to put next door or across the hall. But older kids have a bit more leeway. If they are 18 I believe they can be anywhere as long as the parents are on the ship. But if you put a younger sibling in the room with them they can be no more than 4 doors away.

Yes there are new menus. It is in it's testing phase on the Glory right now. Then it will gradually be rolled out to other ships.
Here is a link from John Heald's blog to the new menus.
Elegant night is now called American Feast, the others nights are American Table. John Heald also stated WCM cake and shirmp cocktail are available everyday.

I agree 100% If you have your heart set on a Spa Pass then you should go right up to the spa upon embarkation and purchase. Especially on Winter cruises from NYC.
That is our plan just hope we are one of the lucky ones that gets on there in time. We usually do book the spa rooms but we have 5 kids so booking the extra room all being spa was too much. We are looking at the Sunshine in Nov and if we do book it will be a spa room for sure!!

I'm taking my annual cruise with my Dad on the Splendor Jan 12th. My first stop is spa to buy access pass. Best $159 I ever spend.
Then I go get my DOD.
Cheers!
HTP
Looks like there will be a line of us at the spa on the 12th trying to get those passes :D

I agree too 500 is not worth it at all. A pass in this case is the best way to go.

Suggestions for things other than beaches and active group excursions
in St. Thomas/St. John
Posted
We live in Florida and are minutes from the beach, so my boys are not really interested in beaching it. They love the mountains and hiking, kayaking, snorkeling. Looking for something other than the beach and shopping for them to do. We are sailing with another family for a total of 15 of us, so if anyone knows of groups rate tours that would be awesome.
