  1. As many starters and desserts as you can eat but only 1 main. All alcohol.

    Really?????

I totally forgot from last time. If that's the case we would easily be eating more than the $85 per person in those 2 meals alone. Add 2 more nights!

  2. So I'm heading on the Norwegian Sky on October 24 and plan on having about 2 celebratory dinners at specialty restaurants on board (probably Cagney's and Le Bistro).

The only other NLC ship I went on was the Getaway and got the UDP included and LOVED IT.

My question is if I go and enjoy decent size meals at those 2 places, would it be worth it to get the UDP? I heard they recently changed how they charge meals there so I'm thinking it might be preferable to get the package if I'm planning on 2 big celebratory birthday dinners.

Last time really loved going to the restaurants every night.

  3. Probably my favorite part of any cruise lately has been the Quest game show on RCCL. Luckily, I saw on these forums that NCL has the game as well. But I found one thread saying they don't have it on the Breakaway.

So my question is, do they have Quest (or an equally adult and hilarious game show) on the Getaway?

  4. I was wondering, since we're coming from Chicago where it is currently freezing, it would be nice to eat outdoors as much as possible. We have the UDP and I'm wondering, what places would we be able to go eat outdoors at? And would we have to reserve outdoor tables before hand?

    Thanks!

    So excited to try NCL!

  5. What book are you going to take?

That is always the most stressful question. You don't want to be stuck with a bad book on a boat, or with a book you finish day 1 of 7.

I'll be going to Barnes and Noble today to pick my cruise read(s).

Picking a cruise book is a science!

  6. Next Saturday I will be boarding the Norwegian Getaway. It's going to be my first ever non-RCCL cruise. I'm so excited to try another ship and another line after the last several all being on the Oasis class.

Sure, I'm nervous that I'll be spending too much time comparing the two lines and three ships (Allure and Oasis with the Getaway). But ultimately, I think it will be a fun experience. Just hope the Getaway is big enough.

NEXT WEEK CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH!

  7. I was reading what NCL says about what documentation needed to board (and also read RCCL's page on it) and wanted to double check with you guys just in case (since the person I am going with can't find her current driver's license and only has a clipped one).

My understanding of the rules are that a passport would be enough. Is this true or do we need a passport and driver's license (or state ID)?

Pretty sure we only need the passport, but want to make sure.

    Sorry for the silly question.

  8. Out of curiosity, why couldn't you get the UBP? According to the terms and conditions for the current promotion, it's not available to those under 25 for sailings between 3/1 and 4/15. Is it because your sailing includes that range? I wasn't sure whether to interpret the terms and conditions to mean the first date of the cruise or any date of the cruise that might fall in that range.

We're sailing 2/28. It's any cruise that includes those dates. Oh well. Eat more drink less.

  9. The only place I know of that you would get charged for seconds is for entrees at Cagney's. Otherwise, you can order as much as you want (though I think you will be too stuffed to do so).

    Thanks.

I'm a regular at Benihana, I can easily do 2 (or more) orders of fried rice and an entree. Looking forward to Teppanyaki.

  10. So I'll be sailing on the Getaway in a couple weeks. This is my first time on any cruise line that isn't RCCL and am nervous/excited.

Anyways, we decided to bite the bullet, spend the extra $100 get an oceanview cabin and get the Ultimate Dining Package (we are under 25 and sadly couldn't get the UBP).

My question is this: I'm so used to being able to order multiple main courses in the main dining room, or at least multiple appetizers. Would I be able to order seconds without getting charged?

I spoke to someone on NCL's chat service and they said yes, but I wanted to hear from you guys.

  11. I am hoping to plan a cruise on the Getaway sailing from Feb. 28. I was wondering if the Ultimate Beverage Package blackout applies to my cruise. The blackout according to the website starts March 1st. Does this sailing count even though it sails before that date?

The two of us on board are 22 and 21. This is kind of the deciding factor on whether or not we go.

  12. Hi everyone!

I like to think I am a seasoned cruiser, though I always go with family. This is my first time on a cruise with just a friend. Since she is not into cruises, I've taken it upon myself to do as much research and planning the cruise.

Although I normally travel with Royal Caribbean, we decided to go on the Celebrity Reflection. It will be my first Celebrity (first non-RCCL ship really, even though Celebrity is owned by Royal) so I am sure I will be a pest in the upcoming month with as many questions as I can think of...Prepare!

Anyways, one of the things I enjoy the most about the cruises I have been on is the atmosphere of the pool deck. I love the Solarium, but the nice Caribbean music and laid back atmosphere of the cruise decks I have been on is wonderful and very relaxing. The feel is just overall very vacationy and Caribbean.

I was wondering, is it similar on Celebrity? (Specifically the Celebrity Reflection)

  13. I'll be heading on a 7 day cruise soon (Aug. 26th!!!) and the one thing I have been thinking about the most while getting ready is what book(s) I should take with me.

Last time I went on a cruise, I read Stephen King's Needful Things and it took me the entire 7 days to get through it (731 pages). When I went on my week long beach vacation last year I read J.K. Rowling's detective novel, The Cuckoo's Calling (434 pages) and made it through most of one of Stephen King's short story collections. All this is so you can get an idea of the pace I read in a week of relaxation.

After much deliberation, I have decided to take Stranger in a Strange Land as it has always been on my list of books to read but have been putting it off. I'm thinking I should probably take another book with me to be safe, but I have no idea. Part of me is leaning towards On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers only because of the whole pirate theme of the novel, but there are some bad reviews on Amazon.

So anyways, I guess what I'm saying is, I need help developing my cruise reading list.

Bonus: for those of you using e-readers on your cruises, do you worry about getting it wet?

  14. This is something I've been thinking about. I'm going on a cruise in late July and want to get the most out of it, relaxation wise. I love reading and have been falling behind in my usual summer reading.

So I was thinking, from now until the cruise to do some "cruise training" which pretty much means getting used to reading for long periods of time (I want to finish at least 1 novel while sitting poolside most of the day), waking up early no matter how late I went to bed, and getting my liver somewhat ready.

The most important (and difficult) things are getting used to more reading and weaning off Netflix.

    Let the training begin!

    Anyone ever do this?
