    Hello,

We are sailing w/ Carnival in late March 2023 (4 adults).  We are interested in doing an all inclusive for the day for research on a possible return in the future to DR/ Punta Canta.  Any recommendations for a day pass nearby Amber Cove or one of the ones that Carnival promotes?

    Thanks

    MW

Did you end up doing an all-inclusive and if so, which one and what was it like?  Thanks.

We, too love LFK. Been there 3 times and will go again on our next visit to Roatan. As an FYI for those who aren't comfortable with the walk up and over the hill to get to your excursion transportation, you can get a cab for $2/pp. When you return, the LFK driver will be allowed to enter the port. 🙂

We are looking to go there next week.  I just saw that the transport time is an hour each way, is this accurate?  Thanks.

Majahual was pretty active last Saturday even with our ship being the only one in port. Maybe weekends more busy with locals? I did notice many walking around without our cruise ship armbands. I can't comment on Maya Chan as we have not been there. I did like Jamie's!  No smell or seaweed that we noticed.

Thank you.  I haven't heard about having to wear armbands; What ship were you there with?

  4. The last couple times I went to Costa Maya we went to Majahual and just hung out at beach with cheap massages and buckets of beer. I heard that it’s pretty desolate now. We are considering do an all-inclusive resort. I’ve heard good things about Maya Chan, but someone said they were there last week and seaweed (and it’s smell) were overwhelming. Someone else also recommended Jamie’s at the Blue Reef. Can anyone weigh in on either of these? Thanks.

  5. I am on the Celebrity Edge Thanksgiving Cruise.  I've been reading about Grand Cayman not accepting cruises until 2022.  I have called Celebrity twice and they have said it's still on the itinerary.  I'm not sure why they would continue to say this when clearly they are not permitted to go there.  I've heard about Costa Maya as a replacement for other cruises, but Costa Maya is already one of our stops.  If anyone has any clue what Celebrity may do, thanks for that info.

  8. Was the cornhole out or did you have to ask for it? Did you see it more than one day? Thanks.

Monday, December 11 - Here Comes the Sun

After two gray days, the sun came out and all was right again! Following breakfast in the Oceanview Cafe, some definite outside time was sorely needed.

We played a bit of cornhole up on the lawn deck...

...and found a place to relax. This is what we liked about the ship: the variety of seating areas inside and out.

Then we attended galley tour which started out in the beautiful Silhouette MDR:

After lunch, it was time for some more outside time as we sailed towards San Juan. This is relaxing!

  9. We are considering this tour. We are a group of women and a couple of them had some concerns, so maybe you can help me out.

    1. What is the hiking like? i.e. distance, terrain, slope/number of hills. A couple have bad knees so that's why asking.

    2. Did you feel safe or have any safety concerns (especially since it is secluded and off beaten path)?

    Thank you for any input!

Used him last Dec for an awesome tour - did the rainforest with the caves and waterfall. Wow. You have to see the sites to believe them. Andres is a true first class act! We did this one - cost at end:

    2) “THE MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR”:

This one is for the adventurous souls. We can do it several different

ways depending on your needs as this is a custom tour focused on a

deep connection with Atabey (Mother Earth). We usually start with a

Local traditional Lunch by the side of the mountain road (big tasty

home-made plates for about $6 per person/plate) to give us energy for

the day. Our adventure begins with a 20-minute hike through a valley

surrounded by stunning limestone canyons riddled with caves to the

sides of the cliffs. We walk through the valley forest and arrive at a

river that carves the canyon. Here we can swim in pristine

uncontaminated water (it can be muddy if it's been raining but that

only means we have more natural nutrients in the water so it's great

for the skin and hair, etc...), we can have an exfoliating mud bath

(imagine the best natural facial with the minerals/sediment in the

river) and float/enjoy the epic views of the colossal limestone

canyons enveloping the river. There are spectacular photography

moments to be had here. Then, we walk through the shallow water to

explore and drink from a natural water spring that emerges from a

small cave by the edge of the river. There is a section that is rocky

as we're walking through the shallow current. This is a very intimate

hidden gem that was surely a sacred place for our Taíno natives as a

source of drinkable fresh water and a small shelter from the outside

    world.

This whole area is a magical place unknown to most Puerto

Ricans and we usually have it all to ourselves. This full day tour

is our most remote and off the beaten path option and it includes

transportation (pick-up and drop-off at your place), guide, native

fruits and/or coconut water, and all fees for:

    $125 per person.

Most amazing excursion we have ever been on!

We had an amazing day on the Magical Mystery Tour with Atabey Tours. We found out about them on here and on Tripadvisor. They are experienced eco-tour world travelers. We could not have imagined all of the beautiful sights and experiences that we encountered that day. The guides were amazing with our 4 kids ages 6-11. We climbed through caves and hiked through the river and waterfalls, all while learning a bit about the plants and wildlife as well as the history of the Taíno people (native to Puerto Rico.) We started the day exploring ancient caves and hiking in the rainforest. After that we had the most amazing local lunch before starting our waterfall adventure.

I cannot say enough about our day. We are raving to everyone. We are long time cruisers and have been on our share of cruise arranges and privately arranged excursions. This far exceeded anything we have done in the past. Andres and Jorge were very conscious of our time limitations with the ships departure and made sure that we were back with plenty of time to spare. Our kids loved their experience and the guides were very attentive and protective of them, while letting them experience things for themselves.

We would recommend them to anyone looking for something outside the normal tourist experience. For someone wanting to experience the heart of Puerto Rico, this tour is a must!!!

  11. Don’t you think it’s much nicer to have different things on different ships, otherwise it’s the ‘same ole, same ole’ every cruise?

That’s why it was nice going on Connie and experiencing Ocean Liners - before they took it away to add more cabins and the same specialty restaurants as on all the other X ships .

I do like different things on different ships. However, all specialty restaurants on the Equinox are the same as Silhouette with exception of Lawn Grille (which is the one I didn't get to experience).

  12. Thanks everyone, it is helpful. In my opinion, Celebrity needs to do a better job telling people about theme nights beforehand. Leaning about them after embarkation won't help much - you need to know what to pack if you want to fully participate.

I absolutely agree. I need to know if I should pack my superhero cape. Is there really no way of finding out this information pre-cruise?

  13. For a large group of women Carambola is pretty nice. Pretty busy very clean and lots of cabs.

When we were at South Friars they were actually expanding down toward Discovery. Sounds like Discovery and Shipwreck will be gone soon but it they are still open you can walk down there from Carambola. Only a few hundred yards.

We really enjoyed Cockleshell about 4 years ago but it is a much longer drive. For sure more rustic but it was fun.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Thank you for that input. I have been seeing some things about Shipwreck not being there any longer so I guess that is helping narrow down my options. Have you heard if Carambola will be affected, as well, or just Discovery and Shipwreck? We are in port for over 8 hours so the longer drive isn't an issue if Cockleshell is the best option.

  14. We are looking to go there on a later afternoon cruise stop in April. Particularly looking forward to the waterfalls, cliff diving, etc. Does anyone know what the water temperatures are like where they go? Thanks.

  15. Cockershell and those in the East will be busy, also by the time you arrive South Friars will probably be a building site, so suggest you hit Vibes. Think they offered a free shuttle in the past, but contact them via their website, to ask all questions and book, so you have all your beds together in the front seaview row.

I wasn't familiar with Vibes. I see that it's on south Frigate Bay close to where I went last time (but wasn't open then). Thank you for that input.

  16. Unfortunately, our ship doesn't dock until 3:30 and most tours I found start earlier in the day.

We are looking for a company that could do a personalized private tour for our group to see some things we were hoping for given our late arrival.

    Thank you for any suggestions!
