  1. I'm vaguely familiar with John Meyer...but Villager - oh my! I had lots of those and loved the look:).

Anybody else recall brands that we loved and are gone?

Revlon cosmetics are still going strong but I don't know if Fire and Ice lipstick is available. That was my mother's only choice. As soon as a tube got below half, she bought another.

My mom used Coty loose powder which CVS still carries!

My favorite colognes as a teen: Oh! de London, Love's Baby Soft, Muguet de Bois (though Christian Dior's Diorissimo is much better)

Favorite Brands: Young Edwardian, Mary Quant (still going strong!)

I have a brushed denim Gunne Sax maxi dress with leather lace corseted top I purchased in 1973 that I'm still hoping to get into someday--either that, or get buried in it!

Remember Huckapoo shirts? Members Only Jackets? :p

  2. Member123: Undergarments are key components to any outfit. With this beach dress, a strapless bra is a must. The problem I have is IT DOESN'T STAY where it should:eek: and tugging on it doesn't look ladylike or appropriate. The size is correct (according to the expert fitter at Victoria's Secret) but it slides down...:eek:and would probably end up around my waist! So with this beach dress, I wear a bustier and that took care of my issue.

If anyone has a secret for keeping a strapless in place - Please Share!!

For the first time in my entire life (almost 60 yrs!) I purchased 2 strapless smocked top maxi dresses for my very first cruise in August. The first dress is a size XL from DOTS which is all white--it has an attached lining that goes down to the knees so I don't think that will be a issue. I planned on wearing a crocheted shrug over the dress and had planned to fasten some sort of straps on the dress. I have never worn a strapless bra in my life so I was really wondering if I could ever find anything to hold up my sagging 38 DDs. After an afternoon of trying on practically every bra on in Macy's (it felt like 110 degrees in the store, to boot!) I found 2 bras. The one I really like is a Lilyette strapless underwire minimizer with detachable straps. Though the cups are unlined and made of stretch fabric, the bra has a silicon edge and really--no bounce, barely any movement. Mind you, I haven't actually WORN it yet but early indications are good--I especially like the MINIMIZER part!

I purchased this dress with detachable straps from Macy's online. I saw it in the store and absolutely love the way it looks (even on ME ):

Sorry for the small picture but the dress is out of stock already!

I've been fooling around with the detachable straps--affixing them directly to the bra rather than the dress itself--maybe that would work (or it could be a recipe for a nasty wardrobe malfunction ) Another option is to get blinged out bra straps and attach them to a convertible bra for a little more support. The bling might them look like part of the dress. I'm thinking of getting some fancy trim (with rhinestones or pearls, etc.) and trying to make my own bra straps to affix either to the white dress or the bra.

    If all else fails--wear a shrug! ;)
