Royal Caribbean pushes back opening 2018-2019 Australia cruises to June
Posted: 15 May 2017 05:58 AM PDT
It appears guests looking to book a 2018-2019 Royal Caribbean cruise from Australia will have to wait a few more weeks.
Has anyone else seen this????? IF the information is out there why can't we book yet???? Have not gotten any C&A notices yet! ! ! ! ! :(

Wow on the Panama sailing aboard Vision.
Nov 13 - inside 3664, ocean 4364, balcony 5119
Nov 29 - inside 3259, ocean 3959, balcony 4913
The price isn't really too bad when you think that it is a 16 day sailing!
Nov 13 - inside $3664 or $229 per day or $1,603 for seven day!
ocean 4364, or $272.72 per day or $1,909.25 for seven days!
balcony 5119 or 400 per day or $2.800 for seven days
Nov 29 - inside 3259 or $203.68 per day or $1,425.81 for seven days!
ocean 3959 or $247.43 per day or $1,732.03 for seven days!
balcony 4913 or $307.06 per day or $2,149.44 for seven days!
More expensive? YES but think where you are going!

There was some talk here about the Disney Wonder that was to go through the Panama Canal on Saturday 29 April. Here is a link (I hope.) to the article that was in our newspaper here today. There is a video and several photos. If you click anywhere on the set of four photos another page will open and the Twitter feed with a nice view of part of the new recycle part of the locks. On the far side are the "holding" basins for the water that recycles with each ship.
The second link is of the cargo ship Costco that went through the Canal today. It is the largest, so far, to go through the new locks! There is a 360* video from about the ship that is a wonderful way to get a full view of the new locks!
¡Hope you enjoy!

May I ask where you found this information? I have been looking for this for some time!
-
Yes, the Caribbean Princess could transit the entire Canal without any issues. By the way, the first cruise ship to use the new locks will be the Disney Wonder, one week from Friday.
"Similar mega-ships are expected to begin using the locks, including one post-Panamax vessel operated by Princess Cruises. USA Today reported that the cruise line's 118-foot-wide "Caribbean Princess" is scheduled to traverse the new locks on a voyage that launches in Oct 21, 2017.
"Caribbean Princess" is likely to be the first mega cruise ship to make use of the Panama Canal expansion. Disney Cruise Line has also scheduled voyages using the new locks for 2017, although its ship, the Disney Wonder, is not a post-Panamax vessel and can fit in the old locks.
The Celebrity Cruises, Holland America and Royal Caribbean cruise lines, which operate mega-ships, do not currently have plans to send them through the new locks, according to Travel Weekly. The expansion does not appear to be affecting the recreational travel industry nearly as much as it does commercial shipping."
(Hope the web site came through showed on the preview!)
I love this site because I can see what ships will be inthe canal during the next few months!
sea cruise chat DOT com has a calendar of ships transiting the canal for the next few months.

Hoopster,
If the silhouette as depicted on nautical cities is correct, the Bliss is just a smidgen over 190'. The Lions Gate Bridge is just a tad lower than the BoA, so the air draft won't be an issue at the Canal.
On the Voyager and Freedom class, sometime ago I found on some slide presentation I ran across comparing dimensions of some of the cruise ships of various lines and it had listed the Voyager/Freedom class as 208'. I have tried to find that presentation since just to reconfirm it, but no luck.
Maybe if they want to bring the Explorer back to the East coast and did not want to go the way of Magellan, they could always troll for pirates off Somalia and come via the Suez! But it would be great if they used the "other" Canal:D. I know there is more than just me waiting for Royal's return to that part of the world.
MAX of the Bridge of the Americas is 201 feet at high tide. Since Explorer of the Seas is 206, I would say that Explorer of the Seas could not do a full transit. :( The Bridge of the Americas is on the Pacific side of Panama so any ship could do a half transit to Gatun lake and back out into the Caribbean.

Tried to get an update on Australia bookings a few minutes ago from the C&A rep, no luck they are clueless, UGH.
My TA is suppose to be checking daily, I guess I will too as of next week.
Belinda
I haven't been on here in awhile. :D According to the RC site the 2018-2019 Australian cruises are supposed to post this week! What is going on? ? ? :o
-
Is there a special area too on Oasis or a separate room? I know some ships have used Giovanni's. :)
-
Staterooms are the same size, but the balconies are larger than other side-facing non-hump "D" category staterooms.
Thank you. I wanted to make sure that the rooms didn't come up short in the space category since they are made from an Owner's Suite being cut into three cabins during one of its dry dock times!
Do you know if the balconies are the same size as the front hump D2 cabins?
-
Has anyone stayed in any of these cabins? What was your opinion of them? Were they "normal" size and the balcony "normal" size?
Any input wound be greatly appreciated! :)

Ship – Freedom
Deck – 9
Stateroom # - 9518
Stateroom Category – F - Large Ocean View
Starboard or Port Side – Port
Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes no noise from the hall way. *** EXCEPT for the connecting door. After several admonishment's the people still left the balcony door open most of the time. We had to put towels and life-jackets at the opening under the door to keep the noise down. ***
Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? – YES :(
Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – The balcony to the aft did obstruct our views some but it didn't bother us much. It was a very nice location
Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? – N/A
Was wind a problem? – Only under the door to the connecting room from the open balcony door!
If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? – N/A
Any specific problems with this cabin? Just the inconsiderate neighbors.
Any other comments? Bed is by the window. Bed faced Aft. There was plenty of room for the two of us and our luggage 2 big and 2 carry-on Bath had shower surrounded by glass NO curtain!
-
Ship - Adventure of the Seas
Deck - 9
Stateroom # - 9624
Stateroom Category – JS
Starboard or Port Side - Port
Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Close to entrance to elevator and stairs area but Very quiet room
Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No
Balcony View - No "obstruction" from any structure but we were on the hump. The balcony was large! Table 2 chairs and 2 lounge chairs.
Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Oversize!
Was wind a problem? - No
If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A
Any specific problems with this cabin? - None for us. First time so near elevators but a GREAT choice this time. Booked 18 months before the cruise. I was recovering from broken leg so being close to the elevators was GREAT
Any other comments? - We were two cabins from the security door that closed off the back section. We didn't have much of a walk IF there had been an emergency!
-
We are in a JS direct hump (aft hump as the D1/D2 cabins are forward hump). But could only get that
bigger balcony on the port side this time.
Oasis of the Seas Deck Plan and several CC reviews show that the Royal Suite has been replaced with cabins 12238 to 12248 which are D2 cabins. They are after the Junior Suites on the Port side of the ship.
-
We are looking at several D2 "hump" cabins on deck 12 on the Oasis.
Does it matter which hump or port or starboard Or is it just preference?
Which would be a better choice for you and why?
Have you been in or had any of these cabins?
Port side Front 12292, 1294, 1298, 12202
OR
Starboard side Front 12592, 12596, 12600, 12604
OR
Port side back 12238-12248
Any input would be VERY welcome! :D
Thanks

I posted the number for you to call. I asked someone who goes there every Sunday if it is open on Easter. He isn't sure so either call or count on it being closed. It is generally closed on popular local holidays.
Sorry but I'm not finding the phone number! We'll be there on 3 April which is a Sunday too. Could you post it here?
Thanks
-
Deb, I'm so sorry I just realized I never answered you! I hope you enjoyed your day anyway!
Beshears I finally have an answer for you! SWEET BITES WILL BE OPEN WHEN YOU GET HERE.
We are looking forward to being there on 4 April too! :D Thanks for the information! ! !

Can you (and anyone else) tell us what your experience was?
How much can we expect to pay for a tour booked at the pier? What sights did you go see? Did you go to any beach and get picked up later? Did you have time to tour the Botanical Gardens?
Thanks -
Maddle
Would LOVE the same help as Maddle! Where? What is the cost? About how long? Anyone out there willing to help? :)
-
Hope you both post a whale watching review, after you have experienced it.
I contacted one of the tour operators. Was advised that February is peak time for whale watching. They migrate north by mid-March usually. I inquired about an excursion around March 26. Tour operator said that it depends if any whales are still present, whether they would send out a boat.
Did you book anything or will it be too late? We are on Adventure. Would love your input!

clarea & cruisenfever,

Thanks,
Cricket
