  1. See are booked with Major Marine 6 hour tour on July 8

looking forward to seeing orcas and humpbacks and other native wildlife

looking to get comments on this tour

  2. Hi,

we are arriving on the Jewel In Seward on July 8

they are putting on charter train to airport arriving around 11.30  leaving ship around 7 am that was announced last week cruise manager with other tours.

that being the case then I expect a charter to ship leaving airport to ship around 12 , arriving 5 pm

    so keep that option open

  3. Before you book

    do your research

look at major marine tours 5 hour v 6 hour  ,  6 hour tour has buffet lunch as extra

    consider train v bus

    compare prices

Ships use use local tours and add their bit on top

i am on Jewel early July into Seward

my plan is a leasurly breakfast drop bags at rail depot( via free shuttle) wander around boat harbour and get 6 hour major marine tour with buffet lunch then enjoy a relaxing train ride to Anchorage for onignt hotel for following day flt to vancouver

i have done a lot of research

  4. Thank you Budget

i note on the alaska rail site ticket office opens 10 am but I read somewhere it opens early on days cruise ships arrive.

my plan therefore is to get off ship after breakfast  around 8 30  9  and get shuttle to rail depot checkin bags  and do the 11.30 to 5.30 major marine tour and then with just one carry on ( between both of us) walk back to train depot , it seems a five minute walk.

when do you get seats allocated  I intend adventure class I will purchase online prob about Easter time.

at the moment $A. is very week against greenback , at the moment a ten year low ,

hoping improves a little over next five months , great time to visit here  and no tipping lol

are taxis readily available at Anchorage  do you know

  5. Cruise lines use the fact “ they won’t leave without you “ and load the tour operators price , but ensure you have enough spare time after the tour  to allow for delays , you will save lots .

    what July cruise on

  6. You might find  flights from Anchorage on the Tuesday morning might ,even with onight in Anchorage,  be cheaper than Monday , morning or lunch time flights don’t have cruise passengers wanting flights so prices tend to be cheaper

    look up skyscanner.com

dont rely on travel agents entirely , do additional research

i am am now planning to get 6pm train stay overnight in Anchorage  and get 12.55 direct flt  to Vancouver .  The saving from not taking the 4pm direct flight on the Monday covers the hotel cost in Anchorage and gives me a day in Seward to do a Kenai fjord tour.

  7. Hi kate

we are also on jewel in July  (1 July departure) pending my wife’s full recovery from recent surgery

i have sailed on Norwegian Jewel twice in last 13 months in Australian and New Zealand waters

disembarkation in ports where ship docked alongside almost immediately, ship tendS to arrive at pier 30 minutes to an hour before schedule , this allows disembarkation to be close to advertised arrival point. Sometimes ship booked tours leave ship a few minutes be fore general departure.

At Seward you will be allocated departure time depending on what your onwards are

All passengers must be on board 30minutes prior to sailing and crew 45 minutes

this is well advertised on gangway as you leave ship

i dont think we have tender ports , so no need to discuss that

i am looking forward to see the October makeover on Norwegian Jewel

enjoy your planning prior to your cruise

    Tom

  8. Heidi and Budget

    thank you

we are leaning to the evening train to Anchorage and doing Kenai Fjord tour

we are booked on NCL Norwegian Jewel arriving on a Monday morning

is there a shuttle to the train station where I can drop bags and how to you get to the tour departure point to and from the station

I would presume plenty of taxi s m

  9. Heidi,

you up are correct ANC to Vancouver flt is additional, Air Canada seems to be only airline with direct flights ,I intend to spend 4 days in Vancouver before the cruise.

my choice is between the train or the full day transfer (8 hour) tour by coach staying overnight in Ancourage and 1pm flight the following day.

Air Canada is the airline used from Sydney to Vancouver and Vancouver to New York.

the current rtw fares now allow 2 stops in North America , for me they being Vancouver and New York.

if I select the evening train where would you leave your bags whilst you enjoy Seward environs.

    i will research Seward attractions

    tom

  10. I Think you are confirming  my thoughts that air canada 12.55 departure is too tight but much cheaper than the 4 pm flight

Therefore I might consider taking a scenic bus tour  to Anchorage and staying overnight in anchorage and getting 12.55 the following day ( Tues)

my plan is to fly to New York on the wednesday morning from Vancouver.

i will be on a round the world air ticket , arriving and departing Vancouver only , if I could depart Seattle much easier , but not allowed . My two stops in North America are Vancouver and New York then Europe.

    Thoughts and ideas appreciated,

i live on the outskirts of Sydney Australia, my first trip to Canada and Alaska

  11. Anita,

Tom and Carolynne here from Sydney Australia,

I am planning to do your cruise 21 June 2019

We have cruised Millie a few years back Hawaii to Sydney

Looking forward to reading your full review and no doubt will ask you a few questions

We intend to fly to New York after this cruise

This cruise is a part of our visit to Ireland to visit our son and his family ,

Rather than a return trip Sydney to Dublin , I have decided to do around the world flight ,so as to do this cruise then visit New York .

    cheers for now

  12. I am looking to cruise from New Orleans in June , I am from Australia and plan to go by train to Memphis after cruise. The train departs 1 45 pm , cruise due to dock 8 am

Read somewhere cabs only take you to airport not city drop off

Should I book train for day of ship arrival or be prudent and travel next day.

I will be in New Orleans for about four days prior to cruise

    Appreciate experiences and solutions

Any suggestions for hotels with close proximity to transport and things to do and see would be appreciated .

    Tom

  13. I am looking at a seven night cruise in June from New Orleans . I wish to travel to Memphis by train , the boat docks at 8 am and train due to depart at 1.45 pm.

I read cabs only want fares to airport and not city ie a trax station

    Any experience please advise,

Should I stay in New Orleans an extra night

I am from Sydney Australia and travelling accross USA by train ,will be in NewOrleans four days before cruise

  14. I would expect long life milk on the Millie's Nov cruise to Oz as no ports would have enough fresh milk and six days to the first port in Tahati.

Just spent a week on Norfolk Island were long life milk was the norm. No probs with the coffee, all good.

I be having several coffees everyday in the cafe on that cruise With my wife I am sure

  15. Celebrity Solstice sailings in Australian waters are not eligible for the 123 promotion, that is stated in Australisn Celebrity Cruise website "terms and conditions".

That includes transpacific cruises as well.

Celebrity is offering free double upgrades from Inside to Balcony on the Solstice for the current season but not the 123.

note the cost of an inside on the Solstice is close to the cost of a balcony on the Millennium for the cruses Honolulu to Sydney ( Oct / Nov 2013)
