  1. Thanks so much this was a fun read. Did you try all the2.0 upgrades? How was the internet?

    Cheers

Not OP, but we tried guys burgers, alchemy bar, blue cantina, and we got the cheapest Wi-Fi plan for the last day in order to check in for our fights.

the alchemy bar looks great, and the bartender we had (I forgot her name) was excellent and had no problem improvising on a drink that she did not have the ingredients for. we ordered the amelia, and I'm not sure what all was in it, but it was blackberries, vermouth, belvedere, lemonade, and some other stuff. (?) she made it great and I suggest it highly if you're on the ship.

blue iguana was delicious, chicken had great flavor, tomatillo salsa was awesome, ingredients were fresh. these were some seriously impressive tacos- seriously. my only gripe is it closes at like 2:30pm. I'd have eaten here a lot more often if I didn't sleep till 11 every day.

i only had guys burgers once but it was awesome. the sauteed onions and really all the toppings were quite good.

the Wi-Fi, which we purchased for the cheapest rate, was strictly limited on what sites I could visit. I couldn't even visit cruise critic! it was perfectly acceptable, not exactly fast but definitely useable.

overall we had a great cruise and had an awesome time with Brandon and his wife (OP.) we finally ran into each other on the sea day, and I'm wishing we had gotten together earlier. Bob (don't know his username-if you've cruised with him, you know it!) and his neighbor bill, we ended up having dinner together on the formal night. awesome gentlemen and great company for dinner.

met a lot of great people and had a wonderful time. highly suggested, and the upgrades really shine.

one thing I will note is that it seemed slightly understaffed. I noticed things I haven't noticed on other cruises. I only saw my room steward once on the last night, I saw several tables dirty for far longer than I would have expected. but, all the staff was very friendly and super helpful.

  2. was in 12706 last week with mom and grandma. they took the bedroom and the king was plenty for the two of them. the couch bed wasn't great but beer puts me to sleep! balcony was bigger than I had expected, especially after reading some reviews. plenty of space for 2 people to sit with a small table. the chairs on the balcony were comfortable. bathroom was great. we were right under the bridge so had a lot of shade, which I enjoyed.

sorry it's so disjointed but I was rapid firing. one thing, I'd rather pay for the room without the haven perks. I don't spend a lot of time outside around the pool anyways so didn't use the haven pool at all. the restaurant was ok. the concierge and butler were cool but not worth the premium in my opinion

  3. I mean, I'm a daily marijuana user from Colorado, and I would NEVER consider bringing weed onto even an airplane, much less into a foreign country.

With the chances of getting arrested at the airport on drug smuggling charges, the chance of being arrested in a foreign country where i have no idea of my rights, and the chance of a large fine, I can't imagine a scenario in which it's worth it.

  4. there are also people waiting to bowl, so they're not going to park themselves for hours at a bowling lane.

But seriously, why spend thousands of dollars to be on a ship and then spend your time doing something you already do at home?

I know you're just the messenger, but time to slap those boys upside the head. :)

Do you ever eat out at home? do you ever go to the spa? ever go to the casino? ever go to a show at a theater? I'm sure many of you have paid to do these things at home AND on a ship. The difference is the atmospohere. How many times do you get to have a gourmet meal in the middle of the ocean? how many times do you get to see a broadway ship on the ocean?

on that note, how often do you get to bowl while you're 1000 miles from the nearest land?

My point being, I do lots of things on a cruise that i do at home, but I'm happy to do them again on a cruise because of the atmosphere and the feel of everything.

It's the same as most things on the ship. Yeah, you may do all these things at home, play bingo, go to the casino, play trivia, go to the pool, but when it comes down to it, you'd like to do it in the middle of the ocean, somewhere you may not be able to do it again for who knows how long.

  5. I would think they could suffer through a few games using a different bowling ball. I mean, seriously? This is absurd to me. Sorry.

It may be absurd to you, but that does not make it an absurd question. Honestly , when i heard that there was a bowling alley at sea, my first thought was, "well, i could toss my ball & shoes in a bag." The only problems are that I'm flying and couldn't do with the extra weight.

It's just like people that golf on cruise lines. Sure, they probably golf 3 or 4 times a week at home, and sure, they could probably "suffer" without their equipment for a couple of rounds, but if you have the opportunity to bring your own stuff, I absolutely would.

Would you not bring sunscreen because you can suffer through the week with NCL's 30 spf lotion?

Also, one more point. Some people (not me) are huge germaphobes, and i could very well see why they would want to have their own shoes and bowling ball. Not to mention, I'm sure these kids bowling balls are drilled specifically to their hand for perfect fitment.

  6. on my last cruise i was 18 and probably right around 6' tall. I slept pretty comfortable in a twin pulldown bed.

So assuming he has his own bedroom or the pull out sofa, he should be fine.

Most likely he will hang off the edge, but I would be shocked if he isn't used to that.

  7. I'm guessing it would work, as with roaming enabled i would /sometimes/ get service on the ship. of course, paying roaming fees is not worth it, but with free 3g, there's nothing to worry about there.

However, I can't see using free 3g on a ship in the middle of the ocean... from what i imagine i would be so frustrated in 15 minutes i would stow it and never use it again
