  1. We are on the Splendida in early March. I am so glad I found this thread. I have gotten a ton of useful information off of it. I'm curious if any of you have cruised this line with teens? This will be the first time in Europe for our 14 & 16 yr old daughters. I'm hoping someone has some tips for helping us keep them from being bored in the evenings. I'm not sure there will be many English speaking kids on board for them to talk to.

  2. Sorry kids, I'm going to try this picture thing again. Maybe I can get it to work this time. My girls were 9 & just 11 in these pictures.

Thanks everyone. The girls were thrilled with your comments. We always try to color coordinate for photographs. They are already trying to pick dresses for the spring break 2014 cruise we are taking them on. We also did a black and white night, but they had the kids on the floor in all of the pictures so you can't see how darling their dresses were.

  3. Hi Lois,

They are usually just regular pictures downloaded from my digital camera. I just looked and they say 3648 X 2736 (pixels?).

Before I changed computers I had a photo editing program that would, with some difficulty resize photos, but it disappeared/doesn't work with the new (now kind of old) operating system.

I know there is an easy solution I am missing! Thanks for any help.

Barb--we were on the Equinox the cruise right before yours--it was wonderful (except for the flights!).

We were on the Equinox last Halloween. I don't have words for what a mess the flights were, especially getting home. It didn't help that both my husband and I caught cold while in Italy. I hate flying through JFK.

  4. We found that people dresses more formally for dinner in Europe than any other cruise we had been on. Women wore nice slacks, skirts and dressy tops. I took a ton of maxi dresses with shrugs and they worked very well. My husband took 1 suit & one blazer with several coordinating shirts and slacks. We weren't over dressed but I seldom felt under dressed.

We didn't make an attempt to hit the beaches. We wanted to swim in the caldera while in Santorini but we missed the ship tour and were too afraid to try to book a private tour our first time in Europe. We were on the Celebrity Equinox and they have 2 pools, one indoor that is supposed to be Adult only and one outdoor that remains uncovered. We used the hot tub quite often outside and really enjoyed it during the day. The breeze is quite cool though, you may want something warm to cover up with while by the pool.

I hope you enjoy every minute of your cruise. We found it kind of life changing. We loved Turkey, it was the most amazing place we have ever been.

Loved the pics and outfit choices. You have great style. I'm already stressing about the packing situation for my med cruise in late Oct. and I have no clue what the weather will be like. Looking forward to other pics!

We were in the Med the first of November last year. You will want to layer your clothes. I found that I often needed a lightweight jacket while in the shade or the wind, you will also want a raincoat. I wore capri's with short sleeved shirts most of the time but I always carried a light cotton hoodie, I used it quite often.

The weather was mostly in the high sixties to mid seventies while we were there, there were a couple days of rain also.

  6. In a panic and trying to pack! Trying on things and suddenly "what was I thinking!"

I think -- I'm wearing these two for elegant night if I can steam the wrinkles out of the purple one. One of the problems with booking a year a head and buying things as you go along is...when it's time for the cruise they just don't look the same. ;)

I am excited about wearing my princess shoes though!

Oops! Attachments aren't working. Let me try again.

I think they are both very pretty and I love the shoes.

  7. So I think I have the first of my formal dresses. Apologies for the poor quality of the photo (I guess I need to clean that mirror lol) I'm home alone at the moment so I had to take the picture myself. I am going to wear it with gunmetal heels, and I guess I am going to need a necklace too. What do you think? Suitable?

I think you look very nice in that dress. It will be great for a formal night. I don't know that you really need a necklace, the neckline kind of speaks for itself.

  8. Thank you. We have only cruised Celebrity so far and many people dressed formally every night for dinner.

There was a large group from Japan on our first cruise and the women in that group were some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. I can't even begin to describe how beautiful their dresses were. We would always try to tell them how beautiful they looked, but we could never quite communicate past charades, lol.

  9. This age is hard for buying clothes. My oldest granddaughter will turn 13 in July, and we love to shop together. She's about 5' 3" but very slim. She can no longer wear children's sizes, but most Jr. sizes are not only too big, but you do have to be very careful that they are not too old for her.

Your daughters look lovely and appropriate. DGD is not as developed as your daughter, which makes things both easier and harder as far as finding clothes. There aren't that many size 0's out there! She needs a very nice dress for a wedding later this summer and I know it is going to be hard to find.

I found Maggie's dresses on the clearance rack at Sears after prom, you may still be able to find some nice ones.

  10. It's so nice to see your girls dressing so appropriate for their ages.

They grow up so fast and there will be time enough to dress in "formals".

They both look darling in their dresses.

Thank you, I will be sure to tell them. It's especially hard because my 11yr old is 5' 6" and almost out of the junior department. You know how sexy all the clothes in the junior department are. That's why she ended up wearing leggings with her dresses. Even she felt like they were too short. My other daughter is a girly girl all the way, so she's pretty easy to shop for since girly things tend to be more modest...

  11. I have gone crazy buying dresses ....most of them has come from Ross...they have FANTASTIC prices. Here are some that I have worn in the last 1 1/2 months:

1st dress up or not night on my very first Transatlantic....from New Orleans to Barcelona Spain...April 15-28, 2012 on the Norwegian Spirit...The MOST AMAZING CRUISE EVER!!!!

    Another that was worn:

These next 2 were worn on my Alaskan Cruise May 13-20, 2012 on Norwegian Pearl out of Seattle:

This one came from JC Penneys.....I only paid $35 for it on sale!!!

    Not a very good picture....

Will post more once I get home and scan the "ship's" pictures into my computer. I have only been home 2 days and 3 nights since April 14....hopefully will make it home this week

I love the teal dress. The color is amazing on you. I also really like your tattoo, I hope it's ok that I mention it.

  12. I use the peel and stick magnets from office depot, they are meant to stick to business cards. I also use a plastic party store table cloth as my background that way nothing can bleed through to the door and they don't weigh very much. Then I can just use magnets on the backs of all the pictures and place them wherever I want.

We usually only decorate the door when the kids are with us, but this year we cruise on my Husband's birthday so I am going to do the door while he is at the casino...I hope he likes it.

  13. Ok, I'm guilty while at the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill I picked up a small piece of marble (possibly gravel) I also ended up with a piece of history in my eye when my husband rubbed his hand over a rock and I was downwind from him...

I now have small stones from Rome & Naples, Italy

    Ephesus, Milas & Didyma, Turkey

    Santorini, Greece

    St. Thomas, USVI

    St. Maarten, USVI

    San Juan, Puerto Rico

Not to mention the places we have visited in the United States.

Before you get very angry with me, I only pick up stones that are the size of a peanut.

  14. I can get motion sick in a rocking chair, so I use the patch. I've noticed that after this last trip my patch affected me more than it has in the past. It has taken longer for my vision to return to normal. I also applied the patch then adjusted my contact, very bad thing to do folks. My husband thought I was having a stroke, we were by the pool so one pupil was very small and the other was totally dilated.

I really wish that the other seasick things worked for me. None of the others seem to be strong enough. I do bring Zofran with me to stop the vomiting if I do get seasick. We're going again in November, so wish me luck, I'm going to try to do it patch free.

  15. We have 2 children and have started bringing them with us every other cruise. We try to do one family vacation and one Big Kids vacation each year. This November will be our 3rd cruise in a year. Our friends are jealous & think we're nuts. Our kids are upset they aren't coming on this one with us. We'll be saving a while for the next one though. We have 2 16th birthdays, my husband turns 40 and our 25th wedding anniversary all take place within 16 months of each other so we're planning a 15 day cruise to someplace Europe with the whole family.

I just tell people that we are lucky to be able to have these travel options and that we appreciate the opportunity to live life now. We didn't want to wait to travel and have one of us get sick and be unable to travel.
