  1. Another point is what about people that walk out of buffet with full plates of food that are heading to the pool area to eat? How are they going to know where they are going? Are they going to stop & question everyone when walking out w/plates of food? I know they have small grill buffet & sometimes BBQ going out outside but MANY get food in buffet & then take it to the pool

area tables to sit & eat. Is someone going to follow them around & make sure they don't take it to their cabin??

I think this is gonna cause a major headache for personnel on the ships. The poor washy washy crew....are they now going to have to be food police??

And the buffet at casino only consists of sandwiches, fruit, veggies & dip & either chicken wings, mini pizzas, chicken on stick, spring rolls or some other hot app...........BUT it is late night they put it out...many fill up a plate & take to cabin......... :(

  2. Just a few thoughts of mine:

Cruise lines are going to try to find ways to increase their revenue...plain & simple. I noticed they are taking Cagneys off the Ultimate Dining package...of course, it is $30 per guest PLUS they are real adamant ONLY 1 entree while the other specialty restaurants don't have that rule.

As far as room service, the menu has not improved enough to justify a charge, IMO...........their room service was never very good anyhow....and at least, the continental is still available at no charge which is what I indulged in.

As far as taking food back to cabin, well, I know that the 3 cruiselines I have been on, they never would let you take food back from the SPECIALTY restaurants because the fridge in cabins are not intended to chill foods & they worried that a guest might let food get bad, eat it & get sick. At least, that is what restaurant managers told me on Princess, Royal & NCL. I do know that on NCL...they will deliver desserts to your room from the specialty restaurants.......i believe it is because guests get so full but they want dessert so the restaurants are trying to accommodate them.

BUT.......taking food from buffet, the grill, etc. well, that has been an enjoyable part of the cruise. I don't know if other cruise lines will do as NCL is. I know Holland imposed a room service fee a few years ago...that lasted a VERY short time & they stopped it.

I noticed on the Jewel, the Carlo's bakery replaced the pastry place and AGAIN...you have to pay for those cupcakes, etc. On Pearl, last year...the coffee bar had pastries/sandwiches free.

NCL cites to keep the ship clean & the guests safe, they don't want us to take food back to our cabins but then they say, fruit & small amounts are okay. Makes no sense, either it is unsafe/unclean for guests to have food in cabin or it isn't. This has NOTHING to do w/cleanliness or safety. It is simply about the buck. I think those that pay for room service will order tons of stuff just because they are paying....:(

As far as dishes, etc. in hallways...(very rare that I have seen them).....the only ones I have seen ARE on trays which means they originated from room service...........so that won't change. I asked my steward & room service attendants about dishes & they all said to leave in cabin which is just common sense as the corridors are too narrow for putting them in hallway.

So I guess we will wait & see how/if this will have major affect on NCL...as of now, most of the reaction is negative which is understandable. They appear to be taking away stuff & charging for other stuff that they didn't used to. Nobody likes that. Guess you could go on all inclusive cruise line like Crystal...costs arm & leg...BUT everything is included...HA!

  3. At Icy Strait Point, I will warn you that a whale watching excursion on ship was $99. Someone thought it would be cheaper if they got it onshore....the exact same excursion was $199 onshore. As far as the zipline, the price was the same on the ship & on shore although on the ship....it was sold out but when we got onshore...there were plenty of timeslots available. :)

  4. Just got off NCL Jewel....we ported a mile or so away...but had free shuttle buses taking us in. Another ship was ported right there where the tram is. A local told me that some of the bigger ships cannot port there so don't know if yours will or not but prolly will be like the Jewel & port away....(with free buses taking you to town of course) The buses stop right there near the tram building. Hope that helps... Enjoy your cruise!:)

  5. The reason I don't understand, is because of the fact that there are many restaurants open throughout the day and the bar pub open at night there was always somewhere to go get food so I don't understand people's continued need to be lazy with room service. to reiterate when I say lazy I'm speaking of people that are fully capable of walking to the restaurants, not people with any physical handicap I can understand them wanting room service. it's almost like in the movie clerks 2 where the handicapped guy was saying it is a gift to be able to walk and the most non handicapped people don't take advantage of that enough.

I would not call it being lazy....many enjoy eating in their room...especially if you have a balcony. Room service isn't just for handicapped guests,,,,it is part of vacation experience for some. Why do you think hotels/cruise lines offer it? It is no different than at hotels on land...it is considered a perk! I saw the new room service menu & wasn't impressed since they will charge now although the old complimentary one didn't have much on it. The BLT & tuna salad was what we ordered most of the time & the strawberry pound cake. When we go on cruise, my hubby & I always have a pj day in the cabin & we order room service for lunch & breakfast...(we do get dressed & go to dinner though) HA HA.... We do this every cruise....at least one PJ day....:)

  6. Just got off the Jewel....I did ask the hotel manager about the food policy. First of all, on the Jewel...there isn't any new room service menu so still free (cept for pizza & midnight till 5am) but I am sure that will change.

The hotel manager said that yes, it was a new policy about not taking food to the cabin but understands that some like to take food back to their cabin. He cited the cleanliness of the ship is the reason pointing out that they no longer do the chocolate night because so many would take it back to cabin....and well, guess wasn't a pretty sight in some cabins the next day. Although, it is a new policy, they didn't seem to take a hard line about it.

On our cruise, I saw many take food back to their cabins (yes, plates of food). Nobody said a word about it or hassled anyone so imagine this policy will be enforced based on the hotel manager of the ship. I know that late at night, they put out some items in casino & many take them back to room for that midnight snack.

I don't know if/when they put in the new room service menu w/7.95 charge if they will start enforcing the NO FOOD TAKEN TO YOUR CABIN policy but possibly.

I don't entirely buy into the cleanliness of the ship theory since they obviously have NO problem w/delivering food to the room so what is the difference? People can make a mess with food THEY bring to the cabin OR food that is delivered to them....

  7. Our TA (group of 18 of us) was able to get us switched over to the Nov 20th cruise.............same perks...some OBC......no increase in price (actually a few bucks cheaper)......PLUS we have extra day on cruise...it is 11 instead of 10. We all retained our free upgrades on cabins & are very happy. Yes, it means cruising during Thanksgiving but we are very happy about this...:)

  8. I don't think I can post the link but I know which one you are talking about,,,I think.

If you google BEST cabins on (whatever ship you want to put in) you should come up with it..

Anyhow.... the site is cruiseadvice DOT org

Once you get to site.....scroll down a bit ......and on right side click where it says BEST CABINS ADVISOR Then all the cruise lines come up & ships so click whatever ship & you can check all the decks, cabins...etc..

    Hope that helps!

  9. I don't think Purex makes the 3-1 sheets any longer, they replaced them with one of those pod things. I really liked those sheets for when we travel, easy to pack and easy to use.

You can still find sites that sell them thru Amazon.com but yes Purex doesn't make them anymore...(I do buy them thru Amazon.......they have many sites that still carry them....I only use them for vacations/cruises.)

    http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=purex+3+in+1+sheets&tag=mh0b-20&index=aps&hvadid=859523603&ref=pd_sl_2m6q6qjulz_e

  10. We have two mini suites booked on Jewel which are adjoining..........we booked me w/DIL & two kids & hubby w/son & two kids in order to get AARP discount. We plan on making sure the adjoining door is always unlocked so noone has problems getting in cabin. (obviously, son & DIL will share cabin) BUT it will be convenient if we can just get all keys to work on either cabin. Thanks!

  11. Where did you find this??? We had no problems purchasing & using these last year in November.............BUT you do have to gamble them...you cannot cash them out...............in other words you can't put your card in...then cash it out to get the money.........they are to be used as slot play. What do they get out of it??? Well, they know you are going to gamble the entire amount....not just the $25 they give you but the $25 you spent for the free $25.

  12. When I was last on a Princess cruise, I bought a coffee card and a Coke card. I believe the Coke card cost $45 and the coffee card cost $30, but if allowed us to have as many Cokes and as many brewed coffees (better than reconstituted coffee) as we wanted. It also entitled us to 15 specialty coffees.

Does Princess still offer coffee cards and Coke cards? Is the deal still the same?

    Thanks...

Last year,,,,,,,,coffee card allowed me unlimited brewed coffees & 15 specialty...but save the last punch till the last day as I noticed when some got their last specialty......they were taking the cards...........we were on 15 day Panama cruise. My hubby got the soda one....

  13. Thanks for the review. Counting the days for our departure. Wondering about the NCL beach excursion at Barbados. DW and I thinking about this or doing our own thing. Would love to hear more about your experience.

We went to Copacabana Beach vs the other one offered by NCL. Nice beach,,got two chairs w/umbrella & free rum punch...(only one per person) They have changing rooms & restrooms plus they have food to buy & beer is $2 a bottle...tried their local brand BANKS. It was 29.99 per person for the excursion.........maybe you could grab a cab & get a bit cheaper but I really think it was reasonable. We spent almost 4 hours on beach. Course, peddlers come up w/jewelry, dresses, etc. at first but in Barbados they all have to be licensed.......they left you alone after initial interaction. The beach was very clean.....the sand wonderful & water awesome! :)
