  1. Does anyone here know if the Burn the Floor cast still does a small show in the Tropicana room? If so, which night?

We were on Getaway several years ago and would love to see it again! I believe it was a 50's style show.

    Thanks for any information!

We sailed on the Getaway over Halloween, Western Itinerary. Burn the Floor dancers performed in the Tropicana room once or twice. The night we saw them was midway through the week, day 4 I think. It was about a 20 minute performance. Time was listed on the daily.

  2. The Getaway was our first cruise with Norwegian. We have since done the Star and are doing the Escape in December. The highlights of the Getaway for me were the Raspberry guava mojitos, the Illusinarium which I'm unsure is still there, wings at O'Sheehan's, crepes at the buffet after dinner and dinner at Cagney's. It's a great ship, you'll love it!

Ooo Please tell me more about these Raspberry Guava mojitos and where I can find them!

  3. We did the floor seating which costs more. The Illusionarium is a smaller to mid-sized venue with a medium sized stage. The shape of the room is an odd half circle with the right side partially cut off. Performers enter from doors onstage but all of the props etc. enter from the right side (as you look at the stage).

My understanding of the difference of floor vs. banquet is that the banquet seating is the last row of larger booths, that holds maybe 8-10 people each. The floor is comprised of rows of tables that seat 6+. Besides prior to the show, the performers are always stay on stage.

If I did it again I would do the floor seating but would get there earlier to get closer to the stage. We were in the middle section in depth but almost directly center stage. We got there 20-25 minutes early (around 8:20p) and the first "row" of tables was already seated (and eating). Another cool part of arriving early is that some of the performers come out into the audience for photo opportunities (your own and NCL's photo group).

    I hope that this helps.

*Note- because the Cirque show serves dinner you can use it as one of your specialty dining. I do believe that you will be charged for the difference between floor and banquet. Check your charges on that for confirmation or talk to your agent for clarification but we (my wife and I) used it and then I think I paid a discounted price for my kids. Again, get clarification in the pricing but it is an option. (I tried to pull up my billing but it's gone from the NCL site)

Thank you so much for the information! We loved the Cirque show on the Epic and are looking forward to this one even more.

  4. I did see a thread on the forum here where someone scanned and linked Dailies from their Western Itinerary. Try the search feature, but know it is all subject to change.

We saw Howl at the Moon 3 nights on the Epic last year. We are big fans of Piano Bars, so we had a great time.

4 of Harts - Can you give a little information on the location of the Banquet vs. Floor seating for Cirque Dreams? We will be able to book ours next week and I'm having trouble finding good information on the room layout and seating to help me make my decision.

  5. We were on the Epic over Christmas and we had a great time. I was a little worried about the crowds, as this was our first mega ship. But, we had a completely sold out ship and it really wasn't bad at all. Yes, moving around and using elevators after the muster drill was kind of a nightmare. Just grab a drink, chill, and let everyone else get out of the way first!

We encountered a "30 minute" wait at Manhattan one night, and opted to go to the Chinese restaurant instead. Every other time, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we were seated right away or within a few minutes. It helped that there were only 2 of us, but it didn't feel nearly as crowded as I expected.

We loved the Chinese restaurant. Obviously your mileage may vary depending on your tastes, but we ate there several times. Service was slooow every time, but we accounted for it and the food was delicious.

We also loved the dueling pianos, so so much. We saw 2 and a half shows. If you are a fan of dueling pianos, or are entertained by good singers, good music, corny jokes, and sing-a-longs, you will have a great time. The room filled up quickly, but people filtered in and out throughout the show. The bartender, the waiter, and the waitress who serviced during those shows were rock-stars too.

If you want to see the comedy shows or the comedy/magic show definitely book those when you get on the ship. We actually found it easiest to walk up to a touch screen kiosk and reserve our tickets there. They are on the wall by elevators and on the ends of the long rows of slot machines in the middle of the casino. If you can't get a reservation to something you really want, try the standby line. People seem to have good success with it.

Someone mentioned that Burn The Floor performed in Manhattan one night. We asked to be seated by the dance floor and very much enjoyed our "dinner and a show" that night.

Pretty much anything that happened in the Atrium filled up quickly and seats went fast. If there is something you must do there, plan to get there early. It's a very strange area to host events on a ship that big, imo.

Overall, we loved the big ship. There were plenty of things to do and plenty of places to sit and read/play games/have a drink/listen to a musician/take a nap.

Biggest advice I have is to go with the flow. If your first plan doesn't work out or the place is too crowded/hot/loud/etc.: Fall back and punt, pick something else and enjoy YOUR vacation. =)

I'm sorry, I don't understand how to work around the ridiculous image posting rules.

The image above is old (and also not mine), but I have added some things to it in the hopes of giving people a slightly better idea of the current state of GSC.

We were there on December 24th, 2016 with the Epic.

The main beach area near the Bacardi bar was loud and very crowded all day.

For a quiet spot - The area I shaded in green is where we settled for the day. We got there around 9:30am and there were only about 15 people there (plus the people in high numbered Cabanas up behind us). It stayed very quiet until around 11am when people started noticing the area existed. When we left around 1pm, the loungers and clamshells in this area were not quite half full. We did not encounter a line at the bar there. There are restrooms up behind the cabanas roughly were the map says "T3."

The area shaded in red is closed by a construction fence. Probably everything behind and past the small cabanas is closed off, but I didn't try to go back there.

The new taco bar, Abaco Taco was open. It is complimentary and open the same hours as the buffet. It is in the area next to the Patron Bar and straw market - just to your right once you tender onto the island. They had 3 types of premade taco: softshell with ground beef, softshell with shredded chicken, and softshell with fish. They are all seasoned, so no plain options - and I found the chicken way over-sauced and spicy. It is buffet style: You grab your tacos then dish your own toppings.

The Hippo Slide and the Snorkel Trail are gone.

  7. We are sailing on the Norwegian Epic next month and are looking into the "Turtles & Stingrays Land & Sea Adventure" excursion for our Grand Cayman day. The description on the NCL site is very vague. Has anyone here done this excursion and can offer any information on length of time / quality of each stop? I'm also interested to know what you get to do / have access to during the Turtle Farm portion of the excursion.

Any info is appreciated. Thank you =)

  8. We sailed on the Sky in Nov. 2013 and paid $129 each for an inside. We're looking for a quick getaway this summer and the prices are much more. Is it realistic to hope for a price in the mid $100s for a May/June/July sailing with at least 3 weeks notice? Or is $300+ the summer norm?

  9. I booked during the initial BOGOHO sale and just noticed that the same category now includes a $50 onboard credit. What are the chances that I could call and have them apply the OBC to my booking? I booked a particular room and don't want to lose it, so I wouldn't want to cancel and re-book. About to head off to work and just wanted to see if you all thought it would be worth giving Royal a call when I get home.
