I’ve cruised PG in 2013 and 2016 and have booked another sailing for October 2020. Who are the current captains? I’ve been fortunate to have Captain Toni on both sailings and would like to know if he might be at the helm next year. I don’t know if they work predictable schedules. I’m also curious to know who the other captains are. What are they like?

    Hi happydolphin,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard the m/s Paul Gauguin in October 2020. It will either be Captain Ante Toni Mirkovic or Captain Davor Ljutic at the helm.

    Kind Regards,

    Paul Gauguin Cruises

Oh dear, thanks Emdee, that's what I thought too; the staff and crew. I hope the investors don't try to "drain" the resources of the line.  I wonder if this will impact on the 2020 Reunion cruise.

    Hi Cruisedreamer1,

The Paul Gauguin Cruises team will continue to be based in Bellevue and will continue to be led by Diane Moore, and no changes are planned for our amazing staff on board. Nothing is planned to change in terms of brand or service for Paul Gauguin Cruises. And, we look forward to another fun Reunion Cruise in 2021!

I presume that if I'm right about the rest of the company, the way the PG does pre- and post-cruise hotel stays may change again.  Not just use the IC properties in FP?

    Hi Wendy,

Paul Gauguin Cruises will continue to partner with the properties of Pacific Beachcomber to provide guests with the opportunity to experience the InterContinental Resorts of French Polynesia and The Brando pre- or post-cruise.  Here is a link to all the properties in our program: https://www.pgcruises.com/extend-trip.

How does PG deal with food allergies?  I cannot find anything on this in this forum.

    Greetings CruiseFanII,

Can we make sandwiches for off boat excursions?
    Are there snacks?
What activities are on boat? Especially for 4 teens and a 11 year old?
can we bring 2 way radios?
what do they stock in fridges?
Do we need international phone plans? Would they work on the ship?
When are there other food options like a buffet?
What type of foods/menu for room service?
    When are bars open?
Best excursions for our big group?
Sorry for all the questions. Thank you

    Hello Mudehy,

For kids and teens, we offer the Moana Explorer program during summer and holiday voyages.  In partnership with Te mana o te moana, a South Pacific marine education and conservation foundation, the Moana Explorer program invites children and teens, ages 7-15, to discover and value the natural wonders of the South Pacific through hands-on, interactive learning on board and ashore.

Every day of the voyage, there is a combination of naturalist-led island and/or beach excursions, science activities, crafts, games, and other adventures. Depending on the itinerary, children and teens might explore underwater life, conduct water experiments, create natural jewelry, go on a treasure hunt, learn about Tahitian culture, discover island legends and geology, design a Polynesian tattoo, and more.  The program for kids and teens is included as part of Paul Gauguin Cruises’ all-inclusive cruise fares.  Guests are encouraged to reserve the program at the time of booking or any time before their sailing date. The program can also be booked on board if space is available. For more information about the Moana Explorer program and daily schedules, visit: https://www.pgcruises.com/family.

Here is a link to shore excursion and you can start booking them 60 days prior to your sailing date: https://www.pgcruises.com/ms-paul-gauguin/shore-excursions.

We offer breakfast and lunch in two dining venues, and dinner in three dining venues. There is also 24-hour room service. We also offer daily afternoon tea (finger sandwiches, pastries, fruit, etc.) at Le Grill by the pool. https://www.pgcruises.com/ms-paul-gauguin/dining

The in-stateroom refrigerator is stocked with beverages (soft drinks, water).

There is a daily newsletter Ia Orana which lists activities. Our Tahitian ambassadors, Les Gauguines and Les Gauguins, lead Polynesian activities throughout the voyage.

For cell phone plans, check with your cell phone carrier.

We offer internet packages you can purchase aboard the ship. https://www.pgcruises.com/faq?subjects=346

Snorkeling gear can be checked out at the marina during designated times and used throughout the voyage from designated beaches or on shore excursions.

We also offer kayaking and paddleboarding from our watersports marina in select ports (weather permitting). https://www.pgcruises.com/ms-paul-gauguin/watersports

  10. Curious if any of you have seen customers windsurfing.

I just received another email from PG with a link to complimentary windsurfing but the specific page with the schedule for the water sports marina only mentions kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

DH can’t dive anymore but he loves to windsurf.

    Thanks for any info.

  11. I contacted the 1-800 number for P.G . along with checking on line and still no itineraries released for 2020. Paul Gauguin cruises commented above as they expected April or May 2018. If PG reads my message.... Any idea when we may see the 2020 sailings ?

Thank you, getting excited about planning our next trip !

  13. Trying to plan our budget and wondering if anyone knows how much the scuba diving excursions with PG cost. Not the ones that they farm out but the actual ones that they do. Thanks!

    Hello Gydell,

Paul Gauguin Cruises’ SCUBA diving excursions are designed for all levels of experience, and we offer PADI certification on board for novice divers, as well as refresher courses. Plus, the m/s Paul Gauguin is fully equipped, including an onboard practice pool, a tank-filling station, and two inflatable dive boats with ladders. Each holds eight divers and two instructors. No tender to shore is needed—you simply leave from the marina platform of the ship and return to it after your dive. And on top of that, we take care of all the details for you, from set-up and gearing you before you enter the water to leading you through the deep.

Here is a link that lists the dives and the cost for each one: http://www.pgcruises.com/ms-paul-gauguin/shore-excursions. For more information SCUBA diving with Paul Gauguin Cruises, visit: http://www.pgcruises.com/ms-paul-gauguin/diving.

  14. We're looking to go on the 7 July cruise which is 11 nights. It's for a family holiday with 6 adults and four kids aged 11, 13, 13 abd 15. I've read about the Ambassadors of the Environment program and would be interested to hear from anyone whose teens have been on that. I have a few questions:

Is the program interesting or does the marine theme get a bit boring?

Does the Paul Gauguin have deck games?

    Is there an icecream bar?

As there are two sea days is there enough for the teens to do - particularly without the Internet 😀😀. My four grandchildren are sporty kids and active. They've looked at other ships with all the bells and whistles. I'm hoping Paul Gauguin would be ok. Any information would be so appreciated, thank you.

    Hi CherylFP,

We hope you decide to sail with us! Through our partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society, we offer the Stewards of Nature program that invites guests to discover and value nature through hands-on, interactive learning for children and teens ages 7-17, as well as family members. This program is offered on the July 7, 2018, Cook & Society Islands voyage. For more information, visit: http://www.pgcruises.com/WCS-Family. There is also a daily schedule you can view to see the activities for each day of the sailing. The ship also has a watersports marina for kayaking, windsurfing, and paddleboarding at select times during the cruise. Complimentary snorkeling equipment is also available for check out. At our private island, Motu Mahana, there is volleyball and kayaking and our private beach in Bora Bora guests can paddleboard and kayak. There are also Polynesian activities led by Les Gauguines and Les Gauguin and shuffleboard.

    Kind Regards,

  19. Hello all, we are on the Feb 18, 2017 sailing.:D

As I'm looking at the sun deck areas on YouTube, I see lounge chairs, but no areas for shade.

We have excursions planned for everyday, but I also want to get back and relax by the pool with my books, ipod and drinks after touring?

Can I bring my own personal sun umbrella? It's portable, with clamps to attach to the lounge chair.

It's called Versa-Brella umbrella. I'm on Amazon right now reading reviews. It's compact, so can pack in my suitcase.

It would also be perfect for our beach day in Tahaa.

Will this be allowed on the ship? Has anyone ever bought their own sun umbrella?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Cruzinbabe06,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard the Tahiti & Society Islands voyage departing February 18, 2017. You can bring your own portable/personal sun umbrella as you describe for use on the ship’s pool deck. If there are windy conditions, you may need to bring the umbrella back to your stateroom. No need to bring the umbrella to Motu Mahana, unless you wish to, since we have umbrellas there and there is also plenty of shade for all our guests.

    Kind Regards,

    Paul Gauguin Cruises

  20. Can anyone tell me what kinds of beer they serve on the PG 7-night Tahiti cruise? Just curious!

    TIA!

    Ia Orana criuisingurl079,

Paul Gauguin Cruises offers Amstel Light, Bass Ale, Beck’s, Carlsberg, Corona, Foster’s, Grolsch, Guinness, Heineken, Hinano (local Tahitian beer), Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Samuel Adams.

  21. Hey folks.

I have not scuba'd in about 18 years. Decided to dust off my old cert before heading to Tahiti in Oct.

I went by my local dive shop and started browsing equipment today, masks fins, bc's, regulators, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Well it has been a very very long time since I was last in the water, so I have to start all over kit wise.

It dawned on me that I may just be better off renting some gear while on the ship.

Does PG have decent equipment? Which one of the dives is the best on the 7 night Tahiti and society islands cruise? If I must bring my own stuff, what can I get by with borrowing? I don't want to ruin a once in a lifetime dive by having crap equipment. But I don't want to blow the bank on a hobby that I am not sure I will get back into heavily. It would also be quite nice to not have to fly half way around the world with a ton of gear.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ia Orana elcid79,

We hope to welcome you soon aboard the m/s Paul Gauguin. For more information on our diving programs and equipment, please visit our website: https://www.pgcruises.com/scuba/certifications and https://www.pgcruises.com/scuba/faq.

    Kind Regards,

    Paul Gauguin Cruises

  22. Do you have to book everything through PG to get these deals or can flights be booked independently? Also, what are the odds that they would have this sale for the July 15th, Cook Islands sailing?

Ia Orana Notion of the Ocean,

Thank you for your interest in Paul Gauguin Cruises and the Cook Islands & Society Islands voyage. Here is the link to the Two-Week Sale promotion listing the sailings: https://www.pgcruises.com/august-2016-sale.
