  1. Anyone have experience with New Orleans? Earliest Check In is 12:30, do they actually use the time check in system? If so, do they have an early/late line?

Yes, they use the time check in system and when I cruised out they were strict with the times. Anyone early had to go to a line at the side of the building and wait. If you were late you just went in with whatever group was entering at the time.

  2. You asked about earliest. That is different from reasonable and relaxed.

    Both are discussed here daily.

No need to be rude. I searched for flights out of Miami as a topic and all threads were about FLL, hence why I posted. The difference in flights available is either a little before noon or almost 4, which is a big difference, so if anyone said they were comfortable before noon I’d feel ok with it.

  3. About noon for me.

The ride from POM to MIA takes about 15+ minutes - getting off on a weekend or weekday? Traffic can be an issue. You need to be at MIA at least 90 min prior to take-off (and more is better - TSA can be chaos :( )

If you get up early, carry your bags off, and grab the first taxi in line you COULD make a flight leaving before 11:00. Do you want to spend your cruise worried about making your flight home?

That’s what I was originally thinking, but then was reading threads that people said leaving from FLL at noon was doable.

  4. Also, the large buses usually do not have seat belts. I believe a few of the buses do, but don't count on it.

When we did the cruise, we used the car seats for the plane flight, and we rented a car because we flew in a day early but used the MDE for the return trip to MCO. The seats were checked under the bus with the rest of the luggage.

To store them, you can either stack them in the closet and loose all of your hanging space or put them under the bed.

We have the Graco Natulus seats and I pulled up the seat bottom cover, unlocked the back so it would fold down and it would slide under the bed rail if no one was sitting on it.

Old thread, I know, but I have a car seat question! When you arrive at port, do you have the porters take your seats and get them to your room or do you carry them on the ship yourself? We are flying with 2 seats on the plane in a couple weeks, staying at Disney, and then taking Disney transfer to the cruise. I would never let airline handlers handle the seats, so wondering if the same holds true for porters.

  5. It certainly depends on when you dine. If it's set dining time there is more chance you'll be at one table if all reservations are linked. If you do anytime dining I'd say it's iffy. I was with a group of 10 last cruise and the wait was always super long to get tables pushed together or one big enough for us. We often had to split up.

  6. If you plan to use the laundry facilities then I would book on one of those floor. If you get seasick or vertigo easy, I would book midship or aft. Forward you can definitely feel the motion of the ocean. Also, most of the things to do are aft, with the exception of the spa and gym so there's another reason to book midship-aft. Deck 5 has the oceaneers club, so if you want the convenience of being near the kids area, choose 6.

Thanks! We're well versed on which section (mid/aft/fwd) works best for us but am really not familiar with layout of the Disney ships, we have only been on Carnival. Didn't know if there were better floors for kids to avoid noise above/below, or if they are all mainly cabins above and below. Sounds like 6 is probably safe, especially if it's near the kids area.

  7. We had a spa room once and while I loved the amenities I don't think we'd book a room again purely based on location. Being forward and on a high deck meant a lot of movement and on a particularly rough day at sea my husband was incapacitated. We'll stick with lower decks/mid-ship from here on out and get a pass if I'm so inclined.

  8. I see nothing wrong with teaching children to adapt to adult schedules. In the grand scheme of things, that's how it's always been done. The whole family-revolving-around-the-child concept is relatively new.

There's a big difference between a school age child being told to wait for a snack or meal and a nursing baby. To deny a baby nourishment for several hours just to accommodate the rest of the family's schedule is downright abuse. It's not about being a helicopter parent, it is being a parent.

  9. I fully support your decision here. Breastfeeding is natural and anyone who says mothers do it just to get attention are crazy. I can't imagine having to pack up whatever you are doing, trekking back to the cabin, feeding, and then trekking all the way back. A simple 15 minute feed would turn into close to an hour of going back and forth, most likely with a crying, hungry baby.

  10. I don't know if you realize this, but you can purchase a 12 pack for I think its $3.99 and it will be delivered to your room and be waiting for you when you embark

True, but then you have to keep it cold, and continually go back to your room for a fresh one. We've done the cases in the room before and it was too much effort to always go back to get one, so I didn't end up drinking as much water as I should have. I'm looking forward to just being able to get one wherever I'm at, whenever I want.

  11. Sadly, my next one won't be until October of 2017. That will be the 25th wedding anniversary for Wife and me. We're planning a 7-day trip on the Dream without the kids. New ship, new itinerary, new expectations. ☺️

Oh, and thank you so much. I'm glad you like the review.

What a fun review! What October 2017 Dream cruise are you going to be on? We're leaving on the 15th.

  12. I saw that earlier today also. have never used them. has any one else? Wondering if I can started collecting them now while they are offered for a cruise in 2017 for my 66th bday.

    Any one??:)

yep, this is what a lot of people do. I've got $200 worth for my Oct 2017 cruise already.

  13. My take on this. When I'm on a ship, I want to feel like I am on a ship. Not in central park, not at an amusment park, or dining in 25 different restaurants. I can do those kind of things when I am at home or on a land based vacation. We cruise for the love of the sea, the feeling of freedom and disconnect from civilization. We cruise for the sake of cruising. So, we would choose Magic because it meets our needs.

This is what I've been thinking. I haven't been on an RCL ship, but I read a very detailed review of the Oasis the other week and the pictures look nothing like a cruise. In most of the areas you can't even see the ocean. We just went to Vegas last weekend and I would compare the Oasis more to a Vegas resort/shopping center than Carnival. Just not what I look for in a cruise.
