  1. Hi There-

We will be in Vancouver for the first time in September. How difficult would it be for us to rent a car (or two) and visit all the sights on our own? We would probably follow the itinerary for other city tours with a stop at the cap bridge? Is parking difficult and expensive?

Also how long will it take to get from Canada Place to YVR to rent a car? I assume we take the public transportation? We would then return to pick up the rest of the group and luggage.

    Any suggestions are appreciated!

  2. Hello everyone, we leave for our cruise/DIY landtour in a week. On our landtour, we will be driving from Anchorage to Denali National Park (we have a whole day for this, not a rushed drive). We would like to see Hatchers Pass and Independence Mine, but don't know what route to take. As I understand it, there are three main roads- the Wasilla Fishhook, the Willow Fishhook, and then Hatcher Pass Road. Which one is the most scenic route? Which would we take up to the Mine and which would we take to get back on the highway to Denali.

Also, on our way home from Denali to Anchorage, any good attractions? I have heard of the Musk Ox and Reindeer Farms, the Iditarod HQ, anything else to fill a few hours that wouldn't be too expensive and time consuming?

Thank you guys so much for your help, I'm so excited to be headed to Alaska in one week!!!!! :)

We are headed the same way in August. When you return, would you mind sharing where you went, recs etc??

    Thanks!

  3. From the Capilano Bridge you could continue up Capilano Road to Grouse Mountain with its grizzly bears on a transit bus and such then take the mountain's free shuttle back to Canada Place....with that you will have had a pretty full day. Another option would be to just do the bridge, come back on their shuttle, the take a #19 bus to Stanley Park then take Vancouver Trolley's shuttle around the park for $10 pp...again a pretty full day.

Can I make it to Look out Tower in 2 hours from the cruise terminal and back by walking? I think it was mentioned that it was 4 blocks away.

  4. I would be useful to know what the name of the tours are or who the tour operator is. What I can tell you is that the Vancouver Lookout is about 4 blocks from Canada Place, you could walk to it and save having to pay for a tour. I also think that your children would much prefer the trip to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, there is much more for young people to see and do.....and they offer a free shuttle bus back and forth from Canada Place. In either case you would have to check your luggage but there is a commercial luggage check at Canada Place.

It's West Coast and we were hoping to do a day trip before we head back home. This one was recommended and had a good time frame, will store our luggage and drop us off at the airport. However, 4 blocks down for look out tower and a free shuttle to the bridge sounds great, but how about getting to a few of the other tourist spots? Any recs?

    Thanks!

  5. Hi There-

We will only be in Vancouver for the day. It looks like the tour we can take will take us to Lookout Tower or Capilano Suspension Bridge. Any suggestions if I have to choose? The one to Lookout Tower has a better time frame - starts early and ends early. I'll have two children - 8 and 11. We may be doing the Yukon suspension bridge. So perhaps we can do the Lookout Tower or Capilano Suspension Bridge the next time we visit Vancouver? Wish we could do it all, but the kiddies are already missing a week of school.

    Thanks!

  6. Seabreeze has given you some good advice re luggage however the name has been changed to Priority Luggage and they will transfer your luggage to YVR for a fee. You could also use the ships luggage transfer or take your luggage to a nearby hotel and give the bell captain a tip to put your luggage in their lock up for the day.

You may find your time in Vancouver more limited then you think as you likely won't be off the ship and thru customs until after 9 am and when you go to YVR it is a full 35 mins from downtown and you should be out there 2 full hours before flight time to clear security and US customs. So with that in mind you will have to watch your time. There are some HOHOs and tours that I will list below. If there are a couple of specific things that you wish to do you could take transit.

  7. Hi There

We will be arriving from a cruise and plan to stay for the day and depart on an evening flight. What are your recommendations for a city tour? The trolley or a city highlight tour, or any other?

Should we not bother and come back on another trip to spend more time? We will need suggestions on what to do with our luggage and how to get from the port to where we would board the tour.

    Thanks!
