1. Yes, I agree. Carnival is finally moving in the right direction. We are planning to sail on Carnival Vista, but....

What about entertainment??? Any new shows?

Royal Caribbean is my favorite, it has great ships and excellent entertainment.

The only complaint about Royal is that RC ships don't have a Water Park with slides. I know about the water slides for the 2016 RC Harmony of the Seas.

Are any other RC ships getting this "enhancements"? The water parks are perfect for Caribbean vacations.

    P.S.

Royal is getting too expensive, and looks like they are going Disney on prices.

The new Norwegian Escape looks great.

    ;)

  2. Long time cruiser but new to the Cruise Critics message forum. After ten HAL and Celebrity sailings our last three Royal Caribbean cruises have been on Allure, Freedom and Liberty.

Freedom and Liberty of the Seas have been two of our favorite ships of any line. I'm wondering if Independence is as good of an experience as the other two because it has spent much less time in the Caribbean than the others and we only sail Caribbean and Mexican Riviera cruises. I've read that the shops are European suited on Independence of the Seas so I hope the feel of the cruise is not different as well .

Is there anybody who can compare or share their experience?

They are sister ships under the Freedom Class. We did Independence in March 2014 and then did Liberty in November 2014 and we really liked both. They are like 99% similar, the only differences are the interior decor, artwork and shows.

The shows on Liberty were better than on Indy.

The Adventure Ocean Kids Camp on Indy was better than on Liberty.

They are great ships. Enjoy your Cruise!!!

  3. Interesting and informative

I Have found the costs of the cruise to be

    Carnival = $

NCL = $ 1/2 (even if kids sail free)

Royal = $$ 1/2 (ocean view = Balcony on Carnival)

Disney = $$$$$$$$$ - I am glad we can go to Disney anytime we want, eliminates the cost of the mouse at sea.

In some ways your list suggests you get what you pay for but not all the time.

I agree with you about the costs and that you get what you pay for but not all the time.

    Best Price: Carnival

    Best Value: Norwegian

    Best Overall: Royal

Best for Kids: Disney, but is too expensive (we can cruise twice or more for that kind of money). Other cruise lines like Royal with Dreamworks and Norwegian with Nickelodeon.

  4. Big Al,

    Agree with you about:

Best showers- Disney Dream ( rain shower & HUGE)

    Best private island- Castaway Cay..Disney

I know that Disney musicals are the best family shows.

The rotational dinning is good too, is similar to freestyle dinning but keeping the same waiters and really cool themed restaurants.

    The Disney food is Ok.

In Summary, We really liked Disney Dream, but We think that Disney Cruises are super expensive (we can cruise twice or more with that kind of money).

Royal Caribbean has Dreamworks, and we think is better overall cruise line.

Norwegian Cruise Line has Nickelodeon, and we like the freestyle of their new ships.

    WOW... Cruising is Awesome!!!

  5.
There are no broadway shows on Freedom.

The shows are Now you see it featuring the magic of Drew Thomas, production shows Marquee and Once Upon a Time.

The ice show is Freedom Ice.com

Add to this the usual comedian and other assorted headliners that change weekly.
Did you like any of those shows?
  6. Embassy Suites near the airport is a great option, if you are like us and don't mind cookie cutter hotels.:D We have stayed there several times with and w/o children [even into their 20s]

    1. It is an easy cab ride from the airport and pier.

    2. Free drinks in the evening.

    3. Outback on site

    4. Freeform pool with waterfall

    5. Small gym with treadmill

    6. two blocks from beach where they have a section with chairs and towels

    7. Did I say, Free drinks in the evening.;)

    8. Free cooked breakfast

I totally agree that the Embassy Suites is a great option.

    Other options:

    1) El San Juan Resort & Casino, Hilton Hotel

    2) San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

    3) Ritz Carlton

  7. My opinion after 11 cruises in 4 different cruise lines (Royal, Norwegian, Carnival, Disney):

1)Best cruise line: Royal Caribbean, but I think that Norwegian is really close to be the best (maybe the new Norwegian Escape). I think that Freestyle cruising is great, and NCL freestyle new ships offers a FREE: beverage package, dining package, onboard credit, stateroom gratuities, 3rd-4th guests sail free, or get all of them (based on your booking selection of stateroom). NCL offers great value plus best entertainment.

2)Best cruise ship design: Royal Caribbean - They look great from the outside, and on the inside an amazing Promenade.

3)Best Shows: Norwegian Epic (Blue Man Group, Legends, Cirque Dreams Dinner Show); and RC Liberty of the Seas (Encore: And Ice Spectacular Show; Saturday Night Fever Broadway Musical; and In the Air show).

Entertainment and Activities: RC Liberty of the Seas (Free World Premier 3D Movies, Parades, etc...)

4)Best Water Park: Carnival Breeze WaterWorks.

Best water slide: Norwegian Epic Plunge.

5)Best MDR Food: RC Liberty of the Seas.

6)Best Buffet: Carnival Breeze (Guy's Burger Joint, Blue Iguana Cantina, Mongolian Wok, Jimmy's C-side BBQ, Carnival Deli, etc...).

    7)Best specialty restaurants: Norwegian.

8)Best Service: Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.

9)Best itinerary: RC Adventure of the Seas (Southern Caribbean)

10)Best children's program: RC Independence of the Seas (Adventure Ocean) has best staff, kids parade & talent show.

11)Best cruise for kids: Disney Dream (Disney Character Greetings, Broadway Disney Shows, themed Restaurants, Fireworks at sea, themed parties, etc...)

    12)Best staterooms: Disney Dream.

13)Best included in the cost of your cruise: Disney Cruises - Complimentary: 24-hour room service; On-demand television and in-room movies; and complimentary soda, tea and coffee on deck and in the dining rooms.

14)Best live music and DJs: Norwegian.
