  1. Seconded! Karl was great on the Liberty in September. It's too bad that he retired from Carnival, but hopefully he is on to bigger and better things.

Oh say it aint so! Oh well, he deserves to move up. Should have known a personality like that would get stolen away from us!

  2. I thought I would post a few pictures of the decorated doors around the ship from our last cruise.

I got more involved with the roll call here on Cruise Critic for this cruise and met some great people. Our group was slow to start, but ended up getting a lot more involved in the roll call during the last month.

I had never even participated in a door decorating contest and decided to sponsor one for our group. I had a small trophy, some candy and a ribbon for each winner. I definitely learned by doing and would alter a few things if I were to sponsor an event again.

As the judges were roaming the ship judging I took pics of all the doors that I found decorated and thought I'd share them all here since the question of what to decorate with or how to decorate often comes up on the boards.

I know this thread is a little old but I was wondering if you would be so kind as to tell me a few more details about the contest you held...specifically...who did you get to judge the doors and did Carnival provide the prize or did you just get it for the contest?

Any help you can provide would be really appreciated!

  3. Do you have to go through a body scanner before entering the cruise ship? Or is there a pat down? I'd rather do a pat down as I don't trust the radiation from the body scanner thingys.

You do go through one each time you board the ship, at embarkation as well as reboarding at ports of call. You might can request a pat down instead...doesn't hurt to ask.

  4. Which night is past quest party?

I've gone through my notes from November and can't for the life of me figure out what day I went to the past guest party. It was later in the week though. And it is usually at 5:00 pm...before the first dinner seating, and held in the big show lounge. It won't be listed in the Fun Times paper, but you'll get the invitation in your cabin, left by the room steward the night before.

  5. I have been reading post and reviews for months now. We don't cruise for 381 days and I can't wait! :D This will be the first cruise for me and my BF.

We booked the cruise on the Victory for April 2013. We will be in cabin 6451. Was wondering if someone could help me find a thread that has pictures of this cabin or if someone could post some if they have stayed in that cabin. I've been looking but can't find much.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Here is a link to a photo of the cabin on the opposite side of the ship but with same configuration as yours. If the link doesn't stick just go to cruiselinerooms dot com and navigate through the ship lists to get to the victory.

  6. Thanks for the great review. One question -- are the blowdryers in the balcony cabins that weird-looking contraptions? Do I need to bring my own???

Yep the dryers are those weird things! lol Do bring your own if you rely on one as the ship ones are a bit slow.

  7. Wednesday is Barbados day (I live there I should know..)

what is that barbados beach named? i'm going on feb 12-2012 on the victory and i loved that picture from barbados!!! i want to go there!

I believe that's Bottom Bay Beach. Southeast coast of the island. A fair ways from the cruise port.

  8. Just got off the Victory yesterday. I probably can find his name in the Fun Times once I get unpacked. I checked several evenings during the week and the place was ALWAYS empty so we didn't stick around.

I was also under the impression that the piano bar was now non-smoking, but I know there were a couple of people in there smoking when I stopped by (they were the only two in there however.)

Thanks AryMay! I did just read a quick review from one of your fellow passengers in another thread. He said the PB guy's name was James and he also said every night it was empty.

The PB guy that just left the Victory was the same way...empty most nights..I was hoping for someone good next go 'round.

I believe he was just starting on the Victory this past week. Not sure if he's completely new or transferred from another ship but maybe he'll get better after he's been there awhile.

  9. Is this a good cruise for a family with 20-26 year children?...opinions please

When I went this past November there were a LOT of twenty somethings onboard. It's such a busy itinerary that young people love it because they're never bored! I'm sailing her again this coming May and taking my three twenty something daughters and their friends. They are completely psyched about all the ports!

  10. Odds are Adam is asking about cabin 1002 on deck 10.

A coworker of my wife just got off the Victory and had that cabin Also their first cruise. She was sea sick most of the cruise. All she said when going out to the viewing area it was very windy when at sea.

I was midship (nearer to forward) my last Victory cruise and felt some motion but for some odd reason it just rocks me to sleep. Now I'm taking my grown children on Victory this May and have booked three of the forward picture window cabins on Upper deck. Do you think there's a HUGE difference in the motion or just a little difference? I don't think a slight increase would bother them. I don't get sick but I'd hate for them to be.

  11. I booked this one for about $100 per night - not sure of the exact single supplement, but know this is pretty good for a 14 nighter. Even with the airfare it still works out to about what I was planning on spending for a Southern Caribbean route cruise! (Being on the west coast, just getting to Florida can be pretty pricey!)

Yes, it's an inside cabin, yes, it's an "older" ship, but getting to cross, seeing New Zealand (and Sydney), off my bucket list is, as they say, "Priceless". Woo hoo, 49 days and counting...

They're on my bucket list as well but the airfare to and from Australia is a killer to me, not to mention the flying time. One of these days though...

I'm sure you'll have a fabulous trip..how could you not?!:)

  12. You guys are going to have a blast on the Victory. As a widow i went solo for the first time this month and had the best vacation I've ever had. So much so that I'm taking my grown children and their SO's on the Victory this May. Several people from my Nov 6 roll call have already booked the Victory a second time as well. Check out all the Victory reviews and you'll be so excited. Here's a link to a list of Victory reviews...

There are more recent ones as well if you do a search on just Victory in the search box you'll find a ton of info to get you going.

  13. I just booked the Liberty t/a on April 14 while I was on board the Explorer. The rate comes to $85. per day for a 14 night cruise. I booked a cat L inside handicapped cabin which is huge. Since there was only 1 still available I thought I should put a hold on it since the deposit is only $100 (I don't know if I would have put a hold if the deposit was the normal $450). I had the booking assigned to my t/a and I'll see if he can get the price any lower. But $85./night for a single is still good. I like the ports of call and being a Diamond member gets good perks on the Liberty since it has a dedicated Diamond lounge where you get more than wine and nuts.

Are you doing a b2b on the Liberty? How did you find it? I can't find a 14 day cruise on Liberty and no b2b anywhere near that rate. That's an amazing deal!
