  1. Hi! We have booked tickets for the Abba museum ( wife is a big fan) I think we will taxi there from the port? I really fancy the Ice Bar (I'm a big fan! :) any idea on distances between these two venues from the cruise terminal and roughly how much we'd be looking at for the taxi journeys?

    Thanks,

    Gossy :)

  2. Hi mate, no I'm on the 17th June. Seems there is a public bus for a couple of euros. Will probably be one hell of a scrum! Then they'll be the usual MSC transfer coaches. Not sure how much money but I'm sure they will be busy! Or a pretty expensive taxi. Still not made up our minds which way we'll go!

  3. Yeah sometimes we find the cruise coaches cost effective but can be a bit restricting and obviously busy at peak times. Usually travelling in a four we find it easier and cheaper to grab a cab :) I'm always happy and find it fun to use local transport. Ie trams in Istanbul or jump on a Dolmus! Just interested in any costing or options for this area :)

  4. Oh dear! That's not good. We had no idea. This was one of the main places we wanted to have a look around. So if we do any tour we can be taken from place to place by a guide but then we can't go out at night on our own!? That seems a bit crazy! What's the point in the ship staying in port overnight?

I'm really disappointed! None if this was ever mentioned when we booked the cruise. What a shame :(

Anyone else have any info or ideas?

  5. OMG! I had no idea about the visa situation! How did I miss that!?

We really don't like the long winded take you all over the place tours :( there's just a couple of things we want to see and we really enjoy a good walk about. We wanted to go out on the town at night too, experiencing the light night etc.

So if we book the cheapest shortest tour, visas will be arranged? We do the tour, can we then go on and off the ship at our leisure, because we have a visa??

Help please, what's the best way to do this?

    Paul.

  6. Thanks Len. We DIY pretty much everywhere. We are travelling with another couple so generally Taxi share to where we want to go (unless there are trams / trains / buses) Already booked tickets for House of Bols in Amsterdam. Abba experience in Stockholm and Segway tour in Copenhagen.

As for St. Petes we were just gonna be lazy, go see the Hermitage, have a wander, out for few beers at night and another wander on day two. Seems most of the stuff on offer are museums, churches and palaces? I think there is only so many of them you can see!?

Will do our usual walk / beer in Tallin and Helsinki :)

  7. Hi, cruised a few times but not to this area. Going with MSC Opera to St. Petersburg and Scandinavia on 17th June.

Really wondering what temperatures to expect? Warm enough to sit by the pool? Will we need jumpers / jackets in the evening? I know this gets asked a lot but just interested in others experience so we have an idea what to pack :) never had to plan coats etc into holiday luggage before!

Also any recommendations what to see in ports? Stopping at Amsterdam, Tallin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Oslo, Copenhagen. (sorted for Amsterdam but interested in "Must see's" elsewhere)

Taking our cash passport card (to use in cash machines) whats the crack with Russia? Easy to withdraw cash from holes in the wall? Or change cash onboard?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks,

  9. Let me start by saying we are not big drinkers per say, however on a cruise, we do like to enjoy ourselves, after all it is a carribbean vacation! We were on the Connie last January and purchased the Premium Drink package prior to boarding. Initially we were concerned that with so many port days we might not get our money's worth.

Not only did we get our money's worth and more, there were other perks that we didn't anticipate. Aside from no slips to sign etc, often around the pool when a frozen drink started melting often the staff would ask if they could just make a new one. We tried many different types of drinks esp Martinis that we might not have bought otherwise. If we tried a new drink and didn't like it it was replaced with another drink of our choice without question.

In order to show you why we felt this was a great deal I will describe a typical day. Disclaimer... based on this, some may think that we are heavy drinkers...if that is the case , while we appreciate your perspective and opinion please do not comment on our consumption ( this is our first post and we have seen some petty unnecessary replies). The purpose of this information is not to expose our consumption for review and/or public scrutiny, but to demonstrate to those who like to let their hair down a little and are wondering from a ecocnmic standpoint is it worth purchasing a package.

0830-Latte with one and half shots of Bailys..........$10.00

    1100-large water...............................................$ 3.50

    1230- Frozen drink..............................................$6.50

    1430- Beer........................................................$5.00

    1600- Frozen drink..............................................$6.50

1800- Glass of wine while dressing for dinner............$10.00

1930- Martini and dancing prior to dinner.................$12.00

2030- Dinner ( 4 different types of wine by the glass as suggested with each course by sommommlier-not all entirely consumed)..$ 40.00

    2215- Specialty Coffee..........................................$ 8.00

    2300- Dancing/Bar/Show/Casino Cocktail.............................$10.00

    2400- Nightcap.(wearever..maybe brought back to balcony) $10.00

Total...$121.50 ( Drink prices are approx by memory-please don't bust me for not remembering exact price..probably cause I drank too much..Ha ha)

    Cost per day...$55.00

Remenber this is for one person double the savings when we each bought one!

Only difference on port days was that we had two beers when back on ship as compared to 3 poolside drinks. Many nights we actually stayed out dancing etc later and maybe had another one...or if really hot day at the pool and having fun with poolside neighbors maybe snuck in an extra beer!

If you think this might come even close to a typical carribbean vacation day for you, then you can see what a true value it is. The other convieniences were no slips to sign, bar servers, waiters and sommoliers knowing your preferences and offering drink suggestions and special cocktails that we had never tried before. We told our assit waiter the first night about the specialty coffee and we had it served with our dessert every night...no hassles. It really added to the vacation atmosphere that we enjoy!

    Hope this helps!

Hi just seen a link to your post.

Interesting!! We are cruising for the first time on Crown Princess this Christmas. Do you or anyone else know, if they do a similar package on the Princess ships?

Or how would I find out?

    Cheers.

    Gossy.
