  1. We have been on 6 NCL cruises and loved each one. I found a good deal for a QM2 Trans Atlantic cruise so we decided to try it. I really did not like the idea of dressing up (I don’t take a jacket on NCL cruises), but it turned out to not bother us at all. It was actually kind of fun dressing up. I would say that about 90% of the men wore tuxedos on the formal nights. On the informal nights men wore jackets and about half did not wear a tie. The ship is the most elegant one we’ve been on. The staff overall is quite friendly as they are on NCL ships. The wait staff was excellent. We were busy all day long and did not have much time to sit and read. We went on an eastbound crossing so we lost an hour on the last 5 days of the cruise. This was great because we did not have Jetlag when we got to the U.K.

Btw, the dress code is a little more relaxed now than when we cruised in June. Some people were making threats on the Cunard forum of cancelling their cruises because it wasn’t going to be quite as formal.

There were probably 15-20 dogs on our cruise. They were all brought down at the same time for disembarkation.

  2. You can keep your phones in airplane mode while using iconcierge. It is a great way to keep in touch with family members while onboard. Service dropped a few times on our last cruise, but in general it worked fine.

  3. We were on the same cruise and we were very impressed with the lectures. This was our first crossing and we were surprised how much we looked forward to the lectures each day. BTW, Matthew Diffee’s presentation provided the most laughs. Don’t miss him if you get a chance to see him.

  4. Please correct me if I am wrong, but this does not appear to be the case anymore. Beverage privileges start at the second (Pearl) level and they won't upgrade you levels just because you booked through CAS. We have the UDP, but it would be nice to use the drink card for espresso and bottled water. I guess we'll find out when we sail next month.

We booked through CAS and received a drink card when we sailed on the Gem a couple of weeks ago. We are at the lowest level players card.

  5. Are the "Featured Entrees" on the Breakaway MDR Dinner Menus available on the same days each week or do they vary from week to week (e.g. is Rack of Lamb served on the same night during each Bermuda cruise)? We are trying to figure out which nights to book specialty restaurants.

    Thanks!

  6. Not sure if this has already been reported... Before my cruise on the Sun this week it appeared that iConcierge was not going to be available for our cruise. We already had the app on our phones so we decided to see if it was available once we were on the ship and to our surprise it was and has been working well for messaging. One problem making calls is that one of our 3 phones can hear the other person, but no one can hear the person on that phone.

I was also surprised to see unlimited internet access available for $175 (I need internet access for my business - never truly on vacation).

This has been a great cruise and Alaska is amazing.

  7. Robin I told you I would let you know what happened with my son. He is a Washington Redskin!!!!

Congratulations Geri. We're rooting for him to make it even if it is with the Redskins:-). Art, Wendy, and Brian.

  8. Are the Breakaway Waterfront restaurants open on sea days, port days or both?

The restaurants themselves have indoor/outdoor seating so they are open every day. We've been on the Breakaway twice and have always sat indoors in these restaurants because it was either too warm or too cold. One of these days we'll make it to the outside seating area for dinner. The Waterfront is our favorite part of the ship because it is a more relaxing environment.

  9. BTW, we went to the buffet for lobster tails on the same cruise at 6. We saw 3 stations where you could get lobster tails (I assume there was a 4th station). The 2 stations toward the front of the buffet had about 15-20 people on line. We walked aft (port side) and there were 3 people on line which was essentially no wait. The line never got much longer while we were there.

Thanks for writing your review as it is a reminder how wonderful our week was!

  10. Hi how did you enjoy your cruise on the breakaway to Bermuda? I am going on the breakaway to Bermuda September 2015... I am sailing solo and staying in one of the studio cabins? I dont want to pay the double occupany...so i figured i would try one of these cabins out... plus you get to meet other people sailing solo...as you have access to the private lounge...and anyway you dont spend all of your time in your cabin.... so i figured what the heck, let me try it out...

How was the weather when you were there? Did you hit any rough seas out on the Atlantic Ocean? Give me some suggestions on excursions in Bermuda...I am going to purchase the 3 day bus/ferry pass so i can go all over the island...also i was reading about a beach day pass at a resort called cocoa reef resort.... you get access to all of their facilities plus two course lunch...including a glass of wine.... i think the package cost for the day $59...

Also one last question....i am going to be using my bank debit card.... how much of a hold do they put on the card? I dont want to use my credit card...as i use that for emergencies...

We did the Bermuda cruise last June and bought the 3 day ferry/bus pass. We took the ferry to St. George and took the free tour and watched the re-enactment of the dunking of the town gossip (very entertaining). We then worked our way back to the ship via bus (a few stops along the way) and the ferry from Hamilton. We also took the bus to some beaches. The only ship excursion we did was a boat tour of the homes of the rich and famous. The guide was very informative and provided a lot of laughs.

Our first full day at sea was stormy with 11 to 20 foot waves and the ship handled it well. Every now and then people reacted to a sudden movement of the ship, but it never got too bad. Maybe it was the bonine, but it didn't bother us.
