  1. In the past on vacations we've rotated the "drink runners." The "I'm getting a drink - anyone else want one??" kind of thing.

On our upcoming Allure vacation we've all purchased a drink package.

Is it going to be possible to get a drink for anyone else? Can I bring their seapass card along with mine and order a drink for both them and me?

Obviously not a huge deal in the least, but I gotta admit it's kinda nice when my husband runs to get us both a margarita.

Where abouts in Minnesota. I live in San Antonio now but was born and raised in Mankato and my Dad was from Ely originally. I can't say I miss the snow and cold up there (especially this year), but I sure miss Autumn and the color.

  2. For whatever it's worth, the ship water's probably less mineral-ridden than the bottled water. The bottles either come from springs (frequent specifically chosen for mineral contents) or from "municipal source", which means they're subject to the mineral content of whatever the source is, sometimes with added minerals for taste. Maybe that's a soft freshwater source, maybe it's a spring source up in the hills. Shipboard, even the shore-supplied water goes through the osmotic filters that remove minerals (and many other things) before it hit the tanks.

I have to admitt you made me look up demimonde - according to Wikipedia:

Demi-monde refers to a group of people who live hedonistic lifestyles, usually in a flagrant and conspicuous manner. The term was commonly used in Europe from the late 18th to the early 20th century, and modern use often refers to that period.[citation needed] Its connotations of pleasure-seeking often contrasted with wealth and ruling class behavior.

The term was often used as one of disapprobation, the behavior of a person in the demimonde being contrary to more traditional or bourgeois values. Such behaviors often included drinking or drug use, gambling, high spending (particularly in pursuit of fashion, as through clothing as well as servants and houses), and sexual promiscuity. The term demimondaine referred to a woman who embodied these qualities; later it became a euphemism for a courtesan or prostitute.

You must be friends with "the most interesting man in the world".

  3. Dumb question #1. There are times both my wife and I want a drink but she is sitting somewhere without waiters being availabe, can I go to a bar with both sea pass cards and get two drinks? #2. I think I read on a previous post you can use the card in the casino, anyone varify that? I'll try to avoid too many more dumb questions.

  4. How the heck do i know what are $10 and under drinks? :( Not thrilled with that price cap just because it makes it more difficult to know what is in and what is out. Any one know what puts a drink over $10??

Good to see someone from our roll call (Oct 26 TA) on this topic. Hopefully we'll learn lots and lots before our cruise.

  5. I am on the CB right now. We left the port late on Tuesday because they were still loading food and other ship items causing the delay. As soon as it was loaded and the hatches closed we left the port over an hour late.

They had a helicopter overhead and a fireboat that shot off their water cannons as we left port. Thank you Bayport for the grand departure.

Parking was a nightmare at first trying to get the cars into the large lot. They had only a paper copy of those who had prepaid and was taking forever to find them. We set in a line for over 30 minutes waiting to get into the lot past the pay booths (2). There is a huge parking lot and the entire complex is surrounded by a high chain link fence. I hope to post some pictures of the lot when I return home Saturday. I took them from the CB before we left.

Unfortunately EMS had to be called before we left to take a pax off the ship. I heard he had fallen near one of the elevator banks and cut his head. I don't know more about it.

This is the veterans cruise and has been fantastic so far. The new terminal is really nice. For the wine lovers, they did not have a table set up and nothing was said about the three bottles we carried on. I don't know how long that will last as this was the first embarkation from Bayport.

Note: The Bayport terminal is out in the middle of nowhere with nothing around except vacant land and Houston's new container port. Don't count on any stores nearby, car rentals, hotels, etc.

    Hi satxdiver

This is Mike & Eva Loue from Schertz and I believe we met at one of the san antonio cruisers dinners (may have been the one at Biff Buzbys). Thanks for all the terrific input on the new terminal, we're on the Dec 14 sailing. I think it was a good move to drive in the day before and book a hotel in Seabrook and take a cab to the terminal. Good to hear from y'all again, glad you had a good cruise. Hope to get together again soon.

  6. We were on the same cruise as saraspdot and drove to Galveston the day of the cruise (I couldn't afford a hotel for all in my group). That was our first experence at same day arrival, we've always stayed in Galveston overnight before. We must have been very blessed because we got to Galveston around 11:45, parked at Lighthouse parking, got to the terminal about 12:00 and were on the ship 15 minutes later with very short lines. Guess it all comes down to when everyone else arrives.

  7. I've read on several boards that it's a good idea to wait until you go ashore and find an Internet cafe to do whatever you need to do on the computer rather than using expensive minutes on board the ship. Does anyone have any tips on where to find a good Internet cafe at any of the Conquest's ports (Jamaica, Cayman. Cozumel). I'd rather spend my money enjoying a couple of drinks instead of checking e-mail at a buck a minute.

  8. I have booked Victor for our cruise in March. We're planning on doing the ziplines, touring the area, and going to his house to see the animals. Though most posts on this board RAVE about Victor and his guides, I have read one post saying they did not like the tour guide they had.

If you used Victor, did you love the guide? If so, who did you have? & finally, does anyone know if you can ask for a particular person?

We just returned from a Voyager of the Seas cruise and used Victor for our tour and were very pleased. Victor's folks pretty much let you decide what you want to see and then help you to enjoy what you want to see and do. Our tour guide was a young man named Kem and he did a very good job of showing us the island from one end to the other. We did not zip line so I can not speak to that part of any tour. Be aware that there is an extra charge for the iguana farm and to visit Victors monkey (yes there is only one you can hold, but he is a real cutie). I'm sure there are others as good as Victor but without doubt the price was right ($25) for a five hour tour. If you want any further info you can contact me at mrulaatsatxdotrrdotcom.
