  1. Not so fast.

This "rebate" situation makes it fairly clear that your DSC does NOT directly land in the hands of the hardworking NCL crew.

    Why?

Because you have 30 days from the end of your cruise to submit the form, and it takes them another 2 weeks to profit it -- which means that 44 days can pass since the cruise before a refund is issued.

So how would that work for employees? Do they reach into their wallets and take the "tips" back?

    Obviously not.

This new policy pretty much clarifies exactly what I always suspected:

The DSC simply reimburses/subsidizes NCL's payment of employees, and raising it or lowering it does not affect their pay.

If you think I'm wrong, explain how they can retroactive remove tips that are opted out of 30 days after the cruise. Some of those employees may not even be working for NCL at that point!

I get your point. However, it is like they are treating the DSC as a commission.

Millions of people live under those circumstances.

That being said. The DSC will still be given however they distribute the funds. But, it is like a commission recall or charge back. Let's say NCL pays the DSC on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.

If someone exercises there right to get a refund. The allocation will just be deducted from that employees pay.

It does not change anything for the staff. It just makes NOT paying the DSC that much more difficult to remove for the guest.

Both these screen caps show that all balconies are deeper than on BA & GA.

They are using the new FA-556 poly-fiber composite balcony dividers with the extended hinge feature.

They serve a dual purpose. Keeps fire code in force, while still allowing maintenance crews to clean balconies by opening just the fwd portion of the partition allowing easy access between divider panels.

  3. Hi!

I was on the Jade last week and I didn't have the UBP. However, I bought two Cruise Next certificates, so I got 250 dollars OBC, which I used to get the soda+juice package for 10 dollars a day. Then whenever I ordered a gin tonic for example, the tonic would be included, I just got charged for the booze. Depending what you liquor you want, the it will run you from 7.95 to 9.95 plus gratuity ...

I liked that option because I didn't feel like carrying soda on board. In the end, I probably wouldn't have needed the juice add on, but whatever.

I did have sometimes order a cocktail off the normal menu, but mostly when they were cocktails of the day = cheaper. Here are pictures of the cocktails of the day on the Jade, I guess they are the same fleet wide.

My favourite was the Moscow Mule :)

Have to agree on the Moscow Mule, sounds strange, but tastes good...

  4. This is now a weekly occurrence. OK Oceania (NCL) I realize that I'm a suite cruiser' date=' but I like to suite cruise in flip flops, board shorts and a t-shirt. I have no desire to wear a tie when I'm on vacation, I wear one in the classroom Monday through Friday. I love the luxury of the suite life but leave me alone already! I'm the guy in the pay restaurant wearing khakis, Aloha shirt & dock siders with no socks.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest.[/quote']

Oceania, is very casual. Greatest cruise we've been on to date. Very relaxed no ties required. Dockers and golf shirts for the guys and sun dresses or other light casual for the ladies, is as dressy as most get. And by most I'm saying 95%. And, most upscale lines are the same in regard to dress code.

And yes, several folks including myself wore shorts and sport shirts to dinner.

This was also other lines too.

  5. I agree with the OP. The layout almost seems like an afterthought in many ways.

The pool deck is a huge problem during vacation season and holiday sailings. But, this is not exclusive to NCL. But I most others think the market place area is wasted space that the engineers could have done a better job with.

The balcony cabin is funky, especially when the bed is by the closet. However, the bathroom layout is one of the best I've seen in my cruising experiences.

The buffet lacks personality, but still functions like it should.

  6. Unlike Celebrity, who sends you luggage tags with adhesive on the back for 8 bags, NCL lets you print paper tags that are practically worthless unless you reinforce with a hard back and lots of tape.

fold, staple, done!!! How is that worthless. It's simple, how is that "worthless"

Works for millions of passengers a year. Do you reinforce paper envelopes when sending out the mail? Do you reinforce your cash. That to is just worthless paper?

When you fold an 8 1/2 x 11 paper the way they tell you to. That paper is now twice as thick as the skin of any airplane you have ever flown on. Add two staples to that mix, that's a pretty strong tag, especially for its short duration of time it on your bags.

This is another example of complicating what is simple.

Fireproof suit is at the dry cleaners, so wait a day...

  7. Just cancelled our Blue Lagoon excursion for Dec 4th on the Escape. We arrive in Nassau at noon. Next boat to the island at 1:30. 35 minute ride to the Lagoon, must be back on boat at 4:00pm as that is the last one of the day.

Only would have 2 hours there.

Anyone have an alternate place to go besides Atlantis?

    Thanks

  8. You should never have to explain why you want to take a vacation.

Although I do not have personal experience with autism. I feel for you as a parent.

What I do know, is that depending when you go will greatly impact the crowds and noise levels. Also, if your son likes his space. You will find many areas onboard that should suit his needs. Especially the back (Aft) of the ship. Watching the ships wake is incredibly calming.

There are also groups that specifically cater to those with autism. Although I can't post it here as advertisements are not allowed to be posted. However, if you do a search for autistic friendly cruises you should find it.

Also Royal Caribbean has a program dedicated for Autism. Link below

I wish you nothing but a pleasant journeys and safe travels[emoji3]

Oh, If anyone questions you, SCREW THEM!.

  9. Over time travel insurance is a losing proposition.

Otherwise insurance companies wouldn't be in business.

Not to mention I know several people who had legitimate claims denied.

Buy insurance company stock. They have a licence to steal.

    Pass on travel insurance.

That is far from the truth. If people read the contract for coverage. Everything is illustrated to what the coverage will or will not pay a claim for.

Every insurance policy has what is know as the 10 day free look provision.

This allows the insured 10 days to review, and decide if the contract suites there insurable needs.

And yes I will read whatever I sign( insurance, mortgage, auto purchase ect...) and make sure I know exactly what I'm getting into. It's just personal responsibility.

And there is always a way to contact the insurer and ask the questions you may need clarification on.

The fine print is just that. It's something you need to really dive into.
