Yes. Machines and tables only accept US currency (like ACY). Upper tier CAS players get the 3% fee for charging their room accounts waived. Cash, ATM Cash, Room Charge with fee, wire money to the ship and set up a front money account, or setting up a line of credit with the casino.

Post #143 has some photos of the casino on the Prima (pretty much the same on most ships)

Ready to cruise and play? Cash is available at ATMs in our casinos throughout the fleet with lots of other ways to get in on the action.

    Cashless Wagering

Charge gaming to your onboard account directly from your game of choice or at the casino cashier, using your stateroom key card. Convenience fees, daily limits and cruise limits apply. Euros may be exchanged at the casino cashier, exchange rates apply. All gaming is in US Dollars.

    Front Money

Front Money deposits for gaming are accepted in the forms of cash, travelers checks, cashier checks, and wire transfers directly to Norwegian Cruise Line. All cashier checks require prior verification with a scanned copy sent to the Casino Credit team, and wire transfers must be sent no later than 2 business days prior to sailing. Please contact casinocredit@ncl.com for further information.

    Credit

Casinos At Sea also offers credit lines for players who meet eligibility requirements. To apply for Casino credit, please fill out our online Casino Credit Application Form. The minimum credit request is $5,000. Applications are processed 30 days prior to sailing. Email casinocredit@ncl.com or call 1 (877) 625-2094 for more details.

Casinos At Sea will not run a hard credit inquiry on applicants, and only base credit decisions on player banking and gaming history as provided by third party agencies. Once approved, players must present a personal check to the Casino Cashier onboard the ship.

Has anyone here ever used the wire transfer to send money to the ship's casino prior to your cruise?  What was your experience?  Can you withdraw money from there without any fees and do you have to spend all that money at the casino?  TIA

  2. From the Oceania website, I found this and called the number below.  The person I talked to gave me all the information on how to do the wire transfer and to how to make sure it would be there for my cruise (she said at least 2 weeks prior to cruise and to put Ship, State Room, and Itinerary so it would go to the right place). Your funds will be available at the cage (there is no fee like with a cash advance or ATM).  "At the cage you can withdraw cash, marker and add to your onboard account card to play slots" or tables.

SO... I was wondering if anyone on here has actually done this and how it worked out for them.

Would prefer to have 'some' money sent this way so we don't have to carry so much cash with us or use the ATM/Advance (both with high fees).

    CASINO CASH & CREDIT

Front Money deposits are accepted for gaming in the form of cash, traveler’s checks, cashier’s checks and wire transfers delivered to us prior to embarkation. All cashier’s checks require prior verification. For more information please give us a call at 877.625.2094.

  3. I am looking into sending funds to Oceania via wire transfer for the casino so we don't have to carry as much cash on us.  I got the information, and it sounds like you just go to the casino desk and can withdraw funds as you need it (and that way there is no fee, like there would be if you use an ATM). The person I talked to said you can take out all your funds while onboard or have it wired back to you at the end of the cruise.  Has anyone done this?  What is your experience?

@lindaglenn - make sure you get a veranda stateroom. The PC transit takes 10 hours. We had a Concierge level stateroom, which allowed access to the spa. The Spa Deck had some of the best views. People up in Horizons had to view through the tinted glass, while those of us on the Spa deck took turns standing on a platform that gave us a clear view of the locks. You will be able to hear the commentary on the Spa deck, too. Then we went to our cabin for part of the transit (10 hours is a long time to keep watching, etc).

We ate lunch the Grand Dining room that day, but you could order room service and dine while watching the action from your veranda. Just a thought since this is a special cruise for you.

We have an A1 Concierge level veranda.  We have always had a balcony room on every cruise as we love to sit on our deck and enjoy the ocean.  Thanks for responding - we appreciate all the input we can get - room service is a good idea for lunch

We were on the same cruise as the OP.  Certainly agree with the grades given, especially the enrichment speaker, although our experience with all the crew was very good, notably our cabin attendants, Jamaica and Rofik, and Terrace staff, Walter and Marina.  We transited the Canal thru the old locks, but caught a glimpse of one of the new larger ones at the Miraflores Lock.  I doubt cruise ships the size of Insignia will ever transit thru the new locks.  The powers at be at the Panama Canal Company will likely save the new locks for larger ships to enhance their revenue stream.

Thank you for the quick reply. We were hoping they were going through the old locks.  We are really excited about our first Oceania cruise (for our 50th wedding anniversary).  We have cruised many times, but always on bigger ships and really wanted to try a smaller ship.

  6. YES... I have taken lots of tours and I think COSOL was one of the best tour groups I have ever used. We did a private tour because of some handicaps, but we saw others from COSOL tours and talked with them and everyone said it was great!

  7. We just got back from a cruise on NCL to ST Lucia and used Cosol Tours. My husband has limited mobility and I asked for a private tour. This was one of the BEST tours we have been on. They are VERY well organized and handled our unique issues very well. Our tour guide Adrian was AWESOME! We would HIGHLY recommend him. I really wish all tours went this smoothly! We loved all the things we got to see and do on the island. I originally told them that I didn't think we could handle a full 5-6 hours, but we ended up being on the tour for almost 6 hours and I wouldn't have wanted it to be any shorter. It was a beautiful island.

  8. Had a great tour on Roatan with our driver Tex on April 5, 2016! My husband has limited walking and Tex was great at showing us everything within our limits. We really enjoyed the Monkeys at Victor Boddens and the food that Tex helped us order from a local place - food was awesome and VERY reasonable! I would highly recommend Victor Bodden tours and especially Tex!

  9. We just got back from a cruise on the NCL Star to Costa Maya (we were there April 7, 2016) and spent the day at Maya Chan. It was AWESOME! This description from 2014 is very good and still all true. The owners ARE fabulous and the food and drinks are AMAZING!

From the moment you get there, you won't want to leave (I am ready to go back ANYTIME). They have awesome big blue floaty chairs with a drink holder in them and they come OUT to you for your drink order - and all drinks are INCLUDED.

Everyone there bent over backwards to make sure everyone had a great time. They have showers and lockers, and food and drink is included and free wi-fi. They provide snorkling gear and float chairs and glass bottom kayaks (didn't actually go on these, but others did). They limit the group to the number of cabanas/shelters they have and will not oversell the beach - so everyone has a chair and every group has a shelter, table and beach bed.

There is some seagrass there, but it didn't ruin our enjoyment. The staff worked very hard to keep everything clean and in good condition.

Check it out!! If you go, plan to spend the whole day there.

We were there this past February. Were you looking for some specific information?

The owners are fabulous, the food AMAZING! There is a fair bit of sea grass so if that's a dealbreaker for you, be forewarned.

I included it in my cruise review and here's what I had to say about it:

    Costa Maya

We chose a private excursion for this port, the Maya Chan Beach, based on the rave reviews it got here and on other review sites. We struggled a bit with the decision, because it’s a bit of a drive out and this port was our shortest stop, docking at 7 a.m. and departing at 2 p.m.

Maya Chan Beach is an all-inclusive private beach - 5 miles south of the Port of Costa Maya – that takes care of transportation, entertainment (kayaking, beach biking, snorkeling, sand wedge golf) and food. Free wifi with computers is available onsite.

They serve a Mayan Feast (including chicken thighs, grilled skirt steak, garlic sea bass, mayan pork, and tortillas), and have a children’s menu.

From the beginning, the folks at Maya Chan Beach were welcoming and responsive to our questions. Two weeks outside out sail date we got an email with detailed instructions and a port map.

They – and other reviewers – caution about the seagrass. If you don’t like seagrass, they say, this may not be the beach for you. We’re landlocked prairie folk and didn’t really know what seagrass was. It smells bad and there was a lot of it. The entire time we were there, there was a gentleman raking up and disposing of the seagrass. Once you got further out into the water, the seagrass wasn’t as much of a problem. We were in a nice little palapa with a hammock, a beach bed, two adult beach chairs, and a small table. They provided a small kids’ beach chair and a bucket of sand toys for our granddaughter.

I cannot say enough nice things about the amazing people who run and work at this resort. From beginning to end, impeccable care and attention. It started when we got off the ship and went to the meeting point.

In our defence and before I start this part of the story, let me remind you that we were in vacation mode and had, apparently, left our brains in a bucket at home. We couldn’t figure out why no one was there to meet us. Someone finally showed up, very pleasant young man, and as we talked, we realized that we had arrived for the excursion on ship time instead of local time. Maya Chan arranged for a taxi and got us to the beach an hour early.

Once we arrived at Maya Chan and settled into our palapa, we were served drinks and homemade chips with fresh salsa and guacamole. Delicious. Drinks and food were included in the cost of our excursion. $58/adult, $30/child.

And the food was amazing. It was set up buffet style, locally sourced. The fresh fish – catch of the day – in a wine sauce, I think, was delicious.

Our five year-old granddaughter had spent the vacation in search of a real coconut and they obliged her by hacking down a coconut and giving her one to try. She was disappointed in the taste, but loved the experience!

You will not find more hospitable hosts than the people at this resort.

Oh hey, they also have a treehouse that you can rent (instead of a palapa).

  10. We want a taxi tour of Bermuda for 4 of us in late April - only problem is that my husband is fairly large and has problems getting in/out of some vehicles. What type of taxis can we expect? (what type of vehicles?) Do any of the ones recommended here have a vehicle easy to get in/out of?
