  1. ...On our cruise on the Miracle you were flagged at 15 and your card terminated untill the following morning at 10am...

If I was to guess this would have been during the trial period (prior to the end of November 2012). There was actually a 15 drink limit for awhile during the trial period on some ships, it no longer exists.

I can't believe that there are that many different stories out there on the Cheers program... What kind of card did they give you greygoose66?

I think you will find he was referring to the Sail & Sign card, not a separate card.

The stories out there aren't all that different it's just people are misinterpreting them and jumping to conclusions when all the information isn't provided or taken out of context. The Cheers program as it exists now has been in place for barely a month. Many of the stories people are still relating are from the trial period - some of that information still pertains but some of it is wrong. Some program users from the trial period also don't know that program policies have changed in the short time since they cruised and are still relaying old/bad info.

  2. And that's sufficient to get on and off the ship???

A passport is not needed to get on and off the ship in some cases (since it is not required to board initially for some - depending on embarkation port, itinerary, passenger's nationality, etc.).

In those cases where it is not required to board initially some who still choose to bring it sometimes also make photocopies of it and carry while in port, leaving the original onboard. Photocopies are not a replacement and no official would ever recommend you try and use a photocopy. It may or may not benefit you in a pinch. Typically most local authorities in the port areas are familiar with the cruise lines and if necessary can have a cruise line staff member retrieve a passport from your cabin in an emergency, again no guarantees here.

I'm not really sure how the practice of carrying photocopies of passports started, but I've not personally heard of anyone benefiting from it. I think it's more a piece of mind thing for people who think they may lose it.

  3. What To Bring:

    • Over The Door Shoe Holder: ($14.97) - Recommended with 3+ people in one cabin. Use it to organize your bathroom stuff, sunblock, sunglasses, cameras, shoes, etc.
    • 3 Outlet Mini Surge Protector with USB Ports: ($17.97) - There are limited outlets in the cabin. Usually only one US 110V and one European 220V outlet. Surge protection is a good idea onboard too.
    • Highlighter so you can highlight the interesting things to do in the Carnival Fun Times.
    • Hot/Cold cup with a lid. To keep you from having to refill their little cups with lemonade, juice, coffee, and iced tea.
    • Your prescriptions and Aspirin, ibuprofen, Band-Aids, sea sickness pills, Neosporin, and Pepto-Bismol, etc.
    • Bungee cord - to hold open your balcony door (some balcony doors will remain open on their own)
    • Magnet - to keep A/C running with balcony door open (only required for ships with this feature)
    • Sunscreen and aloe vera (for those times you forget to put on the sunscreen)
    • Bug repellant - recommended for some shore excursions
    • Sunglasses
    • Hat
    • Cell phone and camera charger
    • Extra batteries
    • One dollar bills for tipping
    • Extra bathing suit so you don't have to put on a wet suit
    • Beach shoes
    • Febreeze® it can get humid and it will keep your room and clothes fresh
    • Downy wrinkle release
    • Disposable water camera

...and about half the clothes you think you will need!

  4. I agree with 95 percent of everything written.

I did find it a little odd about the avoidance of mentioning Cruise Critic.

...My point being that by representing Cruise Critic our groups have, in my opinion, gotten more respect than merely a group of cruisers partying together.

They know we have a "forum" to tell the good AND the bad about any cruise.

    Thanks...;)

    Exactly.

The relationship between Cruise Critic and Carnival is more of a Love/Worry relationship.

Love - Carnival does love us because we are the largest group continually cruising on the cruise line. The money spent by just CC cruisers every week on Carnival would probably shock many.

Worry - Being such a large and quite outspoken group at times, when something doesn't go quite right or very wrong it will more than likely get published for thousands of cruisers who normally frequent their cruise line to see. Many times it is blown out of proportion on here and other times it really is something that should be made known so Carnival can make changes to improve.

Either way I promise Carnival is more than happy to help setup CC Events onboard, but yes some Carnival employees are a little gun shy when dealing with CC'ers and if you've been around here very long you know why.

  5. I haven't seen anyone post any current codes in quite awhile (over a couple months).

Carnival's codes are usually for between 10-20% off. You can usually save 30-40% just by booking excursions directly and not going through Carnival.

Look through the forum threads for your particular ports to get the best information on who to book through.

  6. so, if you want a covered balcony, which cabins would you choose? I would really like a slightly larger covered balcony. Any such thing on the Triumph?

Anything but the aft balcony cabins. All other balconies are fully covered.

    ...I merged your photos :)

  7. I have the impression that Carnival does not help to set up these events???

Carnival is more than willing to have these events. A lot of people are just not interested and over time there has been less and less turnout. It is up to you to organize it, Carnival doesn't know what you want or who to invite. For an open bar get together there is a required minimum of 20 guests.

Other cruise lines including RC have given away many door prizes, served food and even had officers attend their Meet and Greets. Am I wrong to assume that Carnival does not do this?????
You are correct Carnival does not serve food unless it is paid for. They also do not typically have officers attend, but you can request them (most people could care less either way from what I've seen).
